We are seeking a home-based Communications Officer to join RSPB Scotland's communications team.

You'll have an interest in or passion for nature and the outstanding communications skills, knowledge and the experience we need to tell inspiring stories of the conservation projects, our network of nature reserves and our colleagues that are striving to help protect and restore nature across Scotland.

What's the role about?

You'll be part of a dynamic team working across Scotland to unearth and tell great stories from colleagues that inspire key audiences about RSPB Scotland’s nature conservation work.

The role is diverse and busy, working on the roll out of RSPB-wide campaigns like Big Garden Birdwatch, managing and creating content for social media platforms, responding to press enquiries and building relationships with colleagues working in different areas of Scotland to bring their work to life in print, blogs, film and more.

The role will occasionally include opportunities to travel across Scotland, including overnight trips and out-of-hours work with Time Off in Lieu provided. Applicants need to be based in Scotland.

The role will demand:

• Building relationships with teams across Scotland, developing understanding of their work, stories and communications needs.
• Working with the wider communications and marketing team to support effective communications planning and delivery in line with country and organisational priorities.
• Day-to-day management of social media channels and communications enquiries with support from the wider team.
• Maintaining relationships with press and media to maximise coverage of communications priorities.
• Producing a monthly e-newsletter for supporters.
• Identifying reputational risks and working with the team to help minimise potential impacts.

Required skills, knowledge and experience:

• Evidence of a high level of literacy and of a good general education.
• An understanding of how to achieve objectives through communications campaigns and PR techniques.
• Ability to communicate in a clear manner at all levels (written and verbally) to develop shared understanding.
• Ability to summarise complex information and provide impactful copy - e.g. through press releases, social media posts, blogs etc.
• Being able to persuade others and negotiate to reach agreement.
• Demonstrable experience of identifying and developing stories and messages from briefings or background information on a wide variety of topics.
• Working in or with the media to sell and/or tell stories.
• Ability to write to tight deadlines and work in a fast paced, often changing environment.
• Multitasking.
• PR / marketing / journalism qualification (desirable).
• Experience working remotely across a widely distributed organisation (desirable).

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be involved in leading and co-ordinating the delivery of Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s research strategy including our programme of grants, and our work to support increased patient and public involvement in research.  They will work with the Director of Services & Evidence and Head of Evidence & Research to support the charity’s involvement with external research bodies and contribute to the leadership, planning and delivery of cross-team projects, helping to influence and meet our strategic objectives.

About You

We are looking for someone who has proven experience of delivering successful research funding and patient and public involvement research activities.  The successful candidate must be adept at establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders and comfortable working with operational performance metrics, and implementing strategies and objectives for the organisation.  Ideally your background will be in health care or working in a medical charity and you’ll be educated to degree level or equivalent.  Given this role will involve managing and providing leadership to the Research team, prior management experience would be an advantage. Whilst not essential, a knowledge of the needs of people affected by Crohn’s and Colitis would be beneficial also.

In this role, there is plenty of scope for working from home, although there will be times when you will need to travel to events/conferences. JOB TITLE: Public Affairs Manager

REPORTS TO: Head of Social Impact

RESPONSIBLE FOR: n/a

JOB PURPOSE: The Public Affairs Manager will manage the implementation of ParalympicsGB’s policy & public affairs strategy, including managing a targeted contact programme with politicians, civil servants and stakeholder organisations. The role will also play a key role in supporting the organisation’s approach to influencing public policy in sport, disability and education and deliver Games’ time guest programmes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement

• Manage the implementation of the public affairs strategy, with support from the Head of Social Impact and Director of Communications & Social Impact, reporting back to the Senior Leadership Group on the outcomes achieved.
• Work with the CEO, Director of Communications & Social Impact and Head of Social Impact to implement a stakeholder engagement plan building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholder such as politicians, Government departments, ParalympicsGB’s members, sport and disability organisations, and the education sector.
• Coordinate ParalympicsGB colleagues to execute a contact programme with relevant stakeholders including Government Ministers, MPs and Peers, Civil Servants and Stakeholder organisations from ParalympicsGB’s membership and the wider sport, education and disability sectors.
• Monitor and analyse upcoming relevant policy and legislative developments and activities and identify opportunities for influence including drafting responses to parliamentary, government and other consultations.
• Represent ParalympicsGB externally to raise awareness and strengthen our reputation with key policy makers, decision-makers, and relevant public affairs networks. Reporting back to colleagues on the content of meetings and arranging follow-ups as appropriate.
• Prepare high-quality briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders to support influencing priorities.
• Organise and support delivery of a series of Westminster based events and activations to support our Public Affairs strategy, including events to raise awareness of ParalympicsGB’s relevant social impact programmes e.g. Equal Play and Community Sport initiatives.
• Contribute to stakeholder engagement around the promotion of Stoke Mandeville as the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement.
• Administer the Paralympic Games guest programme for Government Ministers, Royal Patron and key stakeholders linked to social impact and international relations.

Policy

• Lead the coordination of ParalympicsGB responses to relevant Government consultations and other stakeholder responses.
• Lead the research, manage consultation with key stakeholders, and draft policy papers with regards development of ParalympicsGB’s policy papers in line with the social impact strategy, particularly around education (Equal Play), community sport, and disability.

Social Impact

• Work with the Social Impact team on communicating public affairs opportunities to our athletes (as part of the ParalympicsGB Athlete Community) and connecting social impact programmes to political opportunities.

About you:

• Demonstrable experience of working in a busy office environment within Recruitment/HR with experience of working with and maintaining HR and Recruitment systems, including but not limited to ATS (applicant tracking systems), payroll, HR and DBS services.
• A strong understanding of the key administrative tasks carried out within a recruitment process and of the legal requirements of the recruitment process and HR department.
• A pro-active approach and ability to work using own initiative.

Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre (CWRC) is looking for a dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking Centre Manager to head up our newly reopened Peterborough Women’s Centre, which reopened its doors in March 2025 following renovations. 

This is an exciting opportunity to build a trauma-informed, vibrant women’s service in an area facing significant deprivation, including women who have been involved in the criminal justice system. Governance Manager 

Salary £40,000 rising to £42,500 after successful completion of probation period, subject to undertaking full scope of the role

Purpose 

The key role is pivotal in maintaining and continuously improving the quality of governance in a national Adult Social Care Charity which fundraises and is registered under the Charity Commission Code of Governance and practises’ the ethical principles under the NCVO. 

The role provides the assurance for the board that they are operating in line with best practice and regulation and that the Charity is operating within its policies, procedures and ethical standards. 

The postholder will consider regulators, funders, supporters, beneficiaries, their family members and the membership of the Charity and be responsible in ensuring that effective governance underpins the operations and supports the charity in achieving its objectives. 

The role supports the Chair of the Board, Chief Executive, and wider Director and Trustee group in providing top quality governance and support that follows ethical and best practise. 

The role is responsible for managing all aspects of corporate governance effectiveness and compliance within the Trust, ensuring governance continues to adhere to good practice and meets all its statutory and regulatory requirements. 

The role will lead on setting clear standards on policy formation and maintain and continuously improve the policy standards and approval and reporting processes. 

The role will ensure oversight and support (through community administration) of the recognised Family Engagement and Reference Groups and Membership Body linking issues and concerns through the appropriate channels. 

Main responsibilities 

Ethical and Strong Governance 

• Take a lead on the development, review and/or maintenance of Terms of Reference, Schemes of Delegation and Memorandum & Articles of Association, liaising with Board and Committee Chairs, Executive and external advisors on key risks and amendments as needed. 

• Board and Committee Governance Support 

• Act as the central communication point between Trustees and the Charity, corresponding with Trustees on key issues between Board meetings. 

• Member and Family Member Engagement 

• Support a step change in the oversight and administration of recognised Family Member engagement structures; primarily at Delrow/St Albans, Gloucester and Botton Communities Family Reference/Engagement Groups, supporting agenda development, minute taking and follow up plans/actions via Community Administration. Report issues and concerns through the appropriate channels. 

• Policy Framework and Development of Policy 

• Oversee the Trust Policy Framework; ensuring that Policy is mapped, shaped and monitored and that clear governance routes exist for update, review and approval through the senior leadership team, Executive, Committee’s and Board. 

• CEO and Director Support 

• Provide proportionate, high quality executive support to the CEO and Directors Group as required by the individual members. 

Being a Manager 

• Provide good quality, inclusive line management support to the Executive Officer ensuring that regular 1:1 and annual appraisal is provided, and personal development planning is in place as needed. 

What you’ll bring to the role:   

• Significant proven experience and/or qualification in governance within a similar sector (Public/Charity/Third Sector) 

• Demonstrate an excellent understanding of governance, processes and requirements through prior experience in a similar role in the public/voluntary or charity sector. 

• Strong interpersonal, diplomatic communication skills, verbal and written (report writing) and excellent organisational skills. 

• Experience in supporting and engaging with senior stakeholders and an ability to show initiative and lead in aspects of work. 

• Demonstrate a pro-active and adaptable approach and the ability to think innovatively to solve problems in a complex environment. 

• Highly skilled in minute taking at a senior level. 

• Flexibility to understand and implement change.

• Strong IT skills are essential, including the construction of presentations

The post holder will manage the Social Media Officer and develop and implement channel strategies for the organisation’s social media output. They will be data-driven, using analytics to present on key metrics to the rest of the organisation to showcase the power of social media.

About the team
The Social Media Team consists of 5 roles, working across Shelter to manage our social media output and serve our comms, fundraising, retail, and services’ functions. Within the team we cover content, community management, reporting, training, and influencer outreach.

Part of the Comms and Content sub-directorate, the Social Media Team have close ties with our Campaigns, Media, Public Affairs, Policy, Marketing Teams, as well as working with Income Generation, and the Digital Advice Team within Services.
