The Role
Reporting to the Head of PR & Media, the role will help deliver key national media campaigns that call for change to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke and raise the profile of our stroke research.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Managing the team to deliver a proactive, effective and 24/7 press office, building relationships with identified media and opinion formers, and ensure timely media responses based on organisational and reputational priorities.
· Working with the Campaigns and Public Affairs team to plan and deliver influencing activity to key stakeholders, Stroke Association campaigners and the general public.

About You
You will have experience of:
· Drafting, executing and monitoring PR plans against identified briefs and overarching objectives, to deliver strategic communications objectives and to promote specific campaigns
· Managing productive long-term relationships with news and health journalists in the national media
· Working with Policy and Research functions to deliver sustained media coverage, with a strong call to action, ideally in the healthcare sector

The Role

About the role
Young Lives vs Cancer is seeking a highly skilled Media and PR leader to join them on a consultancy basis for a period of three months. The organisation has undertaken a significant piece of research in partnership with other leading children and young people cancer charities and through this research has been able to identify the areas where there are gaps in the system and in the support available to young people with cancer and their families.
The resulting is a vision that Young Lives vs Cancer, alongside partner organisations, wants the children and young people's cancer sector to own and work towards by 2035 and their new strategy has been designed to work towards this aim. Over the next three years the organisation will focus on building their capacity to guide others to work towards achieving that vision together.
As Media and PR Consultant you will lead on the development of a new media and PR strategy. Your role will include:
- Development of a Media and PR strategy
- Analysis of current media presence as well as of opportunities and challenges in the media landscape, informed by the organisational strategy
- Review of current Media Policy and internal relationships and processes, and to provide an overview of the foundations needed to launch an effective Media and PR strategy
- Review and advise on the future of interdependencies between the Media and PR team and other teams across the organisation
- Review of how media and press activity is captured and monitored
- Analysis of current approach to equipping and supporting young people and families to tell their stories in the media
- Development of an approach to establish a quality group of organisational spokespeople
- Identification of target media outlets and influencers
- Development of media messaging matrix and story angles which support organisational strategy
- Creation of a media content calendar and media outreach plan to support organisational strategy - and to dovetail with other communication calendars
- Integration of activity with Brand and Marketing Communications team - in particular Stories, audience strategy, content review, brand messaging development and system influencing engagement approach.
This is an important and senior level role within Young Lives vs Cancer, joining at an important time for the organisation, and we're keen to hear from senior Media and PR leaders who have:
- Previously worked at a senior level, for example Associate Director / Director level within the charity space and who have experience of building new strategies to support organisational goal delivery;
- Experience of galvanising support for that strategy across an organisation, including within the Senior Management Team

Your role in our mission…
As a National PR Officer you will play a crucial role in raising the profile of Marie Curie amongst key target audiences by developing and delivering projects that command media attention and coverage, and you will work with the media to shape major fundraising and influencing campaigns and build our brand.
You will work closely with teams and departments within Marie Curie to provide excellent PR support to secure meaningful coverage that strengthens our national voice and influence thinking around end of life experience; helping to build financial sustainability and manage the reputational risk regarding negative media exposure in all matters concerning the charity.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with an existing track record in public relations either in-house and/or agency who wants to take the next step in their career in one of the UK's largest charities.
Additional Criteria for Success:
* Understanding of the news agenda and knowledge of different media, particularly print, broadcast, online and national.
* Ability to spot a relevant story in the news agenda to work with colleagues on maximising media coverage.
* A good understanding of digital and social media.
* Basic understanding of media evaluation and familiar with media monitoring.
* A confident communicator, good writer and with attention to detail, adept at working with difficult subject matter and people with lived experience.
* Understanding of Marie Curie and/or end of life issues and the news agenda.

Salary: up to £28,000 (+ £3,500 London Weighting if applicable)
Location: London/Hybrid. You will be expected to work in our office in Embassy Gardens 1-2 days per week.

This is an exciting time to join the Sue Ryder Influencing team, reporting to the Senior Influencing Manager and line managing the Campaigns and Public Affairs Officer you will be playing an integral role in shaping and delivering Sue Ryder’s influencing campaigns and public affairs to help create positive change for people experiencing dying and grief.
About You
You will have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the UK political system and understanding of the issues affecting Sue Ryder’s work. You will have significant experience of campaign work, designed to achieve change, generating engagement and mobilising supporters. You will be skilled at networking proactively and confident in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external colleagues, comfortable negotiating where different perspectives exist. You will have good knowledge and understanding of PR and social media and how this should be used as part of an integrated approach to influencing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent Sue Ryder externally across the UK at meetings, groups and events with key stakeholders to raise the profile of our influencing work and secure positive changes for our communities.
- Work in partnership with the Senior Influencing Manager to develop an annual campaign and public affairs workplan that helps the Influencing team to deliver its strategy and the wider organisation’s vision.
- Work with the Campaigns and Public Affairs Officer to deliver the annual workplan - and to show sound judgement in discharging this function – to enable the Influencing team to progress towards its goals

You’ll help co-ordinate the delivery of our public affairs work across Wales, working closely with colleagues in our public affairs team based across the UK. You’ll have experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with MPs, MSs and their staff.
You’ll support the Communications and Engagement team with managing and developing materials for key stakeholders (invites, briefings, blogs) and ensure the tone and content communicates our bilingual brand in Wales.
You can formulate ideas around how key stakeholders and organisations can be turned into ambassadors and you’ll have experience of organising events and visits for stakeholders.
You will have a key eye for detail and will need to be good with tight deadlines and able to work well and confidently with senior colleagues.
The ability to speak and write in Welsh fluently and confidently is essential for this post.
