We offer 1-to-1 support, counselling, group support, social events, advocacy, and awareness training with local organisations. Our History
In December 1979, we were founded as The Colchester Gay Switchboard. Over the past 45 years we have continued to evolve to meet the needs of the local LGBTQ+ community. Today, The OutHouse is built upon the legacy of the hard work and dedication of the hundreds of local LGBTQ+ community members who came before us. This legacy drives us forward.
Our Future
The OutHouse is undergoing a period of change as we look towards positioning ourselves for service expansion and regional growth. In 2024, we appointed a new CEO, who is leading our organisation through a development phase as we revise our organisational strategy and refine our vision.
The Finance & HR Lead
We are looking for a Finance & HR Lead to take charge of the financial health of our charity by administering a high quality and effective financial management service to The OutHouse. The OutHouse is going through a period of change and we need a finance practitioner who is able to support the organisation in its financial management. You will also have oversight of our HR function. This is a busy role within a small team that is looking to make a huge difference within our community. If you have a proven track record in financial planning and HR management, can manage multiple priorities and work within time sensitive situations, we encourage you to apply.
You will work closely with, the CEO, Operations Change Manager, the Team and the Treasurer to ensure that all data are recorded accordingly and in a timely manner.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
As Finance & HR Lead, your key activities and responsibilities will be to:
Finance Responsibilities
- Provide a high quality and effective financial management service to The OutHouse.
- Prepare, develop and analyse finance and accounting information, including income and expenditure processing, ensuring information is timely precise, clear, informative and understood
- Keep good quality accounting records for our charity by preparing annual accounts and maintaining up to date records on our accountancy and book-keeping systems (making any recommendations for improvement as necessary)
- Work with the CEO and Operations Change Manager to ensure efficient financial management and planning systems, ensure financial reports effectively inform business development and fundraising strategies and that the organisation demonstrates value for money across all activities and services
- Prepare information for our Funders on funded projects expenditure and work with the SLT to present this in a meaningful way
- Attend Trustee meetings as required to provide information and analysis ensuring partnership with CEO and board Treasurer to allow for easier financial decisions
- Ensure financial information supplied to management and the board is full and accurate so as to support sound decision making
- Ensure compliance and proactively highlight potential risk with relevant financial statutory and regulatory matters
- Identify and manage risks and contribute to the risk register on financial matters and wider decision making when appropriate
- Keep up to date with financial developments across the sector and changes in requirements for charity reporting and legislation
- Make sure financial reporting complies with relevant legal requirements
- Maintain and monitor internal policy documents and procedures and make recommendations on best practice and good governance
- Liaise with and maintain a good working relationship with our CEO, colleagues and trustees, Treasurer as well as stakeholders and key operational contacts such as bankers, auditors and funders

Experience

About the role
University Access Officers are responsible for delivering The Access Project’s high impact mentoring programme to students across our partner schools. This role works with a caseload of students supporting them from the start of Year 10 up to the end of Year 11 to understand the pathway to a top university.
The role also involves project coordination, working with our schools, volunteers and teams across The Access Project to ensure our young people are fully supported and have the best possible chance of achieving social mobility and enhancing their future prospects.
This role is for a University Access Officer to work across one school., Shirebrook Academy. Our schools are shown on a map on our website.
Role responsibilities
- Work directly with young people mentoring a caseload of students in a professional and safe manner.
- Deliver our University Readiness programme through in-depth, targeted 1:1 mentoring sessions with Year 10 to Year 11 students.
- Assess student progress towards being able to make successful sixth form applications.
- Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme.
- Match students with volunteer tutors.
- Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance.
- Monitor the impact of tutorials and intervene as appropriate.
- Build and manage relationships with volunteer tutors to ensure they have a positive experience of the programme
- Manage tutor attendance to tutorials through weekly monitoring systems
- Lead on quality assurance of tuition pairings completing a caseload of drop ins.
- Upload information onto the Salesforce database (training is provided)
- Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme
- Direct enrolled students to appropriate wider enrichment opportunities, encouraging both extra and super-curricular participation and reflection.

Training and Development
You will be provided with regular monthly training so that you can develop your skills and succeed in the role. There are opportunities for progression, including several additional responsibility roles which are available for UAOs to apply for once they have completed their probationary period successfully.

About the role
The manager is instrumental in facilitating and delivering life changing, positive on the water experiences for young people. As an expert practitioner, they will provide leadership, development and mentoring to their team of instructors. The post will require strong organisational skills.
The Manager is an employee of the Marine Society & Sea Cadets based at our Crosby Boat Station. The post holder is required to hold and maintain the following qualifications as a condition of employment: RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and RYA Powerboat Instructor.
The primary purpose of the role is to manage a water-sports training facility in the Liverpool area for all Sea Cadet Units and other affiliates to the Boat Station.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day to day running of the Boat Station.
- Ensure that all visiting groups and their staff are fully briefed on the Boat Station’s policies and procedures and that there is adequate supervision of Cadets and young people at the facility, so as to discharge their duty of care for them.
- Oversee the Chief Instructor and all other sessional Instructors using the Boat Station.
- Manage the Boat Station’s accounts in liaison with the Regional Finance Manager including day to day fees.
- Ensure that best practise in accordance with the NGB guidelines and requirements following our Inshore Boating Operating Standard.

Young Sounds UK exists because musical talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t: family finances and other obstacles too often get in the way. We’re here to change this in two key ways:
- We support young musicians from low-income families with funding and other help

We have recently secured funding to build on our evaluation work to date, and it is a priority for us to more fully embed evaluation throughout our work – the Evaluation Director will be critical to us achieving this. The Evaluation Director is a new role and will lead the development and implementation of Young Sounds’ evaluation strategy, ensuring that our work is evidence-based and impactful.

We are currently recruiting for a Research Manager to oversee the development of RoSPA’s research, ensuring that our policy work is driven by a robust evidence base. As Research Manager you will be responsible developing, delivering, and leading RoSPA’s research programme. From setting out strategy to collating, analysing and delivering wide-ranging, novel and robust research which drives RoSPA’s policy, public health, and campaigning agenda. - Able to lead a research programme across a broad range of policy areas and issues?
- A skilled programme manager who can create, define and deliver to an agreed workplan?
- Able to see the big picture, horizon scan and spot and align opportunities?
- Experienced in building relationships with partners based on mutually beneficial sharing of effort?
- Skilled in communicating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing?
- Able to engage proactively with the media and political stakeholders in Government and the civil service?
Do you have …?
- A degree (or equivalent)?
- Demonstrable experience of researching, data gathering and analysis, reviewing and writing reports, research papers, etc?
- Knowledge of quantitative & qualitative evaluation techniques?
- The ability to present information clearly and concisely?

The post holder will be required to work flexible hours and travel/work away from home on occasion (some overnight stays will be necessary). The ability to attend evening events in Westminster would be a benefit but not essential. A post graduate qualification or a qualification would be preferred but is not essential for the role.
