Job Purpose

This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate and prevent further crises.

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

The Role

The role of the support workers will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.

Job Purpose

Money Minded: Professional advice and support because your mental health matters

Money Minded is a new service designed to support adults, (18 years and over) in Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow. The service provides support with welfare benefits, accessing debt support, housing and well-being/peer support groups/workshops. 

The role of the Mental Health Information and Advice Officer will be to provide advice, guidance and customer representation to tri-borough Residents living with Mental Health difficulties. Advice issues may include, housing, benefits, council tax, accessing debt support, signposting etc. 

The successful candidate will deliver support to enquirers and manage a caseload of individuals, as agreed with the Service Manager. In addition to advice casework, the Mental Health Information and Advice Officer will also be expected to assist onboarding referrals to the service, as and when needed. 

The successful candidate will be required to work alongside the Team Leader and volunteers supporting on the project, within the Advice Quality Standard framework (AQS) and adhere to Mind’s policies and procedures. 

Due to the nature of the work, if successful, you will need to have an up-to-date DBS check completed, prior to undertaking unsupervised client work.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver support to enquirers and manage a caseload of individuals as agreed with the service manager

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

• Substantial experience of delivering advice in a similar position, preferably to individuals with Mental Health needs
• Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health problems and how they are impacted by social issues

About the Service

Our refuges provide emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and sexual violence, last year nearly 1000 women and children found a safe place to stay in one of our refuges.  Refuge Case workers provide emotional and practical support this can include housing support, legal options, reporting to the police, benefits, financial matters and accessing therapeutic support services.

About the Role

You will be a keyworker for a caseload of (on average 6-10 women) living in or moving on from the refuge.  You will be with them from the start of their journey to the end, welcoming and helping them settle when they arrive to when they are ready to move on to their next home.  This includes carrying out risk and needs assessments and developing support plans.  Your work with service users will ensure their practical needs as well as emotional needs are taken care of. You also provide a vital role in keeping the service a safe and secure environment for the women and children who now call the refuge home. It is a face paced, target driven role.

About You

Key to this role is experience of working/volunteering with anyone who has experienced any form of social disadvantage.  A knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children is important as well as an ability to build supportive and empowering relationships.  You must be open and willing to learn new skills which will build on your working practice with service users to co-develop and deliver support planning, risk assessment & linking in with other agencies where needed. 

Knowledge and experience of risk assessing, case management and legal remedies, housing and welfare benefits is ideal however not required as we are confident that we can train around these.

Domestic Abuse Support Worker 

£22,669 - £23,428 per annum

Who are they?  

Our client provides refuge and community based (outreach) support to adults and children who are experiencing domestic abuse. They offer their services to both women and men (dispersed only) with or without children who are fleeing domestic abuse and need a safe place to stay, and to those out in the community who are living with the impact of domestic abuse. 

The Roles 

They have multiple roles, each varying in responsibility. Please read through the descriptions and when asked on the application page specify which role you are interested in. 

Support Worker’s 

As a Support Worker, you’ll play a pivotal role in providing practical and emotional support to women and men who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse (both in the refuge and throughout the local community). You’ll work with clients to assess needs and risks and plan a package of support and risk management individual to them.  

Some of the other duties involve: 

• Assessing referrals for both community and refuge based services 

• Supporting the delivery of group work both in refuge and local community 

• Travelling throughout service delivery area to deliver support and attendance at multi-agency meetings and work in partnership with other agencies where required to advocate for their clients and ensure risk is managed and support needs are met (e.g.: social care; police; CAB; housing departments; Job Centre and Benefits agencies) 

• Working with colleagues to provide a clean and welcoming environment for all accessing our services 

• Ensuring records (computer based case management system) are kept up to date and accurate – basic IT skills and knowledge of IT systems are advantageous!

Move On Support Worker’s 

As a domestic abuse move on worker you’ll support individuals and families within our safe accommodation to transition into settled accommodation. You’ll provide a tailored, person-centred support package to help customers achieve their goals and live a life free from abuse.  

Some other duties include: 

• Prepare customers to move on from safe accommodation services and deliver support, both in groups and one-to-one, to enable them to manage their own tenancy. 

• Support customers to set up their own home, assisting them to set up utility accounts and other household obligations. 

• Provide emotional support and reassurance to survivors and their families around their move from safe refuge. 

• Working with survivors on the transition from refuge to their own property safely, engaging in robust safety planning and risk assessing and identification. 

• Provide housing management and welfare benefit support and guidance, as well as signposting and making referrals to appropriate agencies. 

• Identifying and keeping an up-to-date register of local and national grants available to survivors in furnishing/ moving to their new home Establish and maintain quality working relationships to enable multi-agency support. 

• Engage actively with safeguarding initiatives and Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) frameworks, referring clients, attending meetings, and following up on agreed actions. 

• Foster positive partnerships within the multi-agency arena, working collaboratively across operational areas and the local community to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues and available support options. 

• Working in a client-centred way to identify appropriate local and community groups that can support/ assist the survivor to integrate into their new community safely. 

• Liaise with, signpost or refer to relevant statutory and voluntary agencies, advocating for the best possible support for each survivor. 

• Undertake relevant training, ensuring continuous professional development and staying informed about the latest industry knowledge. 

• Contribute effectively to team collaboration, demonstrating a commitment to self-care within the team and the broader organization. 

Peripatetic Support Worker 

• The role of Peripatetic Support Worker is to provide comprehensive cover for accommodation and community-based services, offering practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and various forms of violence and abuse. Some other duties include: 

• Managing a diverse caseload, responding effectively to escalating and changing risk, while maintaining up-to-date casework records. 

• Facilitating tailored, high-quality case management, including the development of individual safety plans. 

• Engaging actively with safeguarding initiatives and Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) frameworks, referring clients, attending meetings, and following up on agreed actions. 

• Foster positive partnerships within the multi-agency arena, working collaboratively across operational areas and the local community to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues and available support options.

About You 

They’re looking for someone who has the values, knowledge and skills of working within a support role supporting clients who have experienced domestic abuse and can demonstrate how they use their skills and common sense to support vulnerable individuals and families. They’ll have a commitment to maintaining the dignity and rights of the individuals and families they work with, with top notch communication skills. It is desirable if you have had experience of working within a Domestic Abuse Service.

Previous experience in a similar role is desirable, but they welcome candidates with relevant experience from other sectors or transferrable skills. 

You will work 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. There may be expectation to work some evenings up to 8pm and occasional weekends and bank holidays. 

You will be required to have flexibility to travel across Derbyshire therefore driving licence and access to a car (with business insurance) is essential 

All successful candidates will be required to take a basic numeracy and literacy exercise prior to the interview.

Salary: £34,224 per annum (Scale point 29), progressing by increments to £36,869.25 per annum (Scale point 32). As a night shift worker, you will receive an additional allowance of £10 per night shift. This will be paid on a monthly basis along with the salary.

Hours: 33 hours per week

Working arrangements: This role will work shifts starting at 10:25pm and finishing at 07:40am. Shifts will be on a rota bases across a 7-day working week. 33 hours will be based upon working 4 nights shifts per week.
