This role sits within the Mission and Evangelism Directorate. The role will seek to develop our safeguarding culture and practice. The Safeguarding Lead will work with individuals across all of Church Army including our employees, Commissioned Evangelists, and Mission Community. The Safeguarding Lead is the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns or allegations and is responsible for ensuring the organisation responds in a trauma-informed manner as well as in line with the standards and expectations set out. The post holder will have had experience of managing organisational risks in relation to safeguarding and be familiar with the guidance set by the National Safeguarding Team for Religious Communities.

Job Purpose

This role sits within our new forensic Women’s Nova Roots service, which is a peer led service for women who are leaving forensic services, based in West London. The service will be open 3 days a week: one weekday evening out of hours and three weekends a month (flexible weekend pattern and times can be arranged).

The aim of the service is to support women who are leaving forensic care to re-integrate into society by offering a community social hub. The focus of the service is to provide social engagement, relaxation and a touch point for out of hours forensic support. The Women’s Hub will provide face-to-face holistic group support, offer psychoeducation and health workshops tailored and coproduced to the direct needs of clients, offer peer-led groups which will be co-designed and led by the clients accessing the hub. We will also offer a range of activities onsite.

Nova Roots will be an extension of the existing support offered by the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), offering out of hours social support. All referrals into the hub will be directly from the SCFTs and local hospitals.

The Nova Roots will be staffed with 1 part time Project Coordinator and 4 Forensic/Peer Led Volunteers – with Service Manager oversight. The Project Coordinator will work directly and closely with the SCFTs.

The Role

The role of the Nova Roots Project Coordinator is to arrange and coordinate a range of psychoeducation, health and peer-led workshops which will be delivered 3 times a week. The Nova Roots Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing the 4 peer-led volunteers and oversight of the site 3 days a week. The Nova Roots Project Coordinator will also be required to be in regular communication with the SCFTs.

The role will require hybrid working: onsite when the hub is open and 1 day of planning/coordination which can be worked remotely on a rota basis.

Person Specification

The Spear Centre Manager will work as part of the River Church staff team to oversee the delivery of Spear—an employability programme equipping and empowering unemployed 16-24 year-olds to overcome barriers to employment and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education.

Key Responsibilities

Oversight of the Spear Programme

Spear Foundation is a 4-week initial phase, consisting of 2 group sessions plus a 1:1 with each trainee per week, in which we coach young people around skills and mindsets to support them in returning to work or education, and equip them with the skills to stay there. ​

• Prepare and coach group and 1-1 sessions with the Spear Assistant Coach.
• Oversee all aspects of the programme coordination and delivery.
• Ensure the programme is delivered in line with agreed targets, and report to Resurgo and the church on enrolment, retention and completion of Spear Trainees, as well as their ongoing progress.

Partnership liaison and relationship management

• Build and implement a strategy for developing and maintaining relationships with local referral partners to build the profile of the Spear programme within Ipswich and ensure the young people who would benefit from the programme are able to access it.
• Steward relationships with young people after initial point of contact, to encourage enrolment and ensure a full cohort is enrolled for each programme.

Line management and training

• Manage the Spear Assistant Coach, using a coaching approach to invest in their growth and development.
• Work with and be managed by River Church staff locally, and by a Church Partnerships Manager from Resurgo on a national level, to ensure the flourishing of the Spear centre, its team and young people, and to ensure the fulfilment of our shared mission in Ipswich.
• Work with and report to Resurgo teams on KPIs, and use outcomes data to maximise the effectiveness of the programme.

Supporting River Church’s mission and ministry

• Establish strong relationships with key people at the church to ensure the engagement of church members and to build a network of supporters for the Spear programme, though it is not a requirement of the role for the successful candidate to join River Church as their worshipping community if they are already part of another local church
• Work with the Head of Operations and the Fundraising Assistant to prepare grant funding applications for Spear Ipswich, and provide timely grant reporting.
• Keep the River Church congregation updated on the Spear programme to ensure it is a seamless part of the church’s missional work.

Specialist Child to Parent Violence delivery:

• Advocate for the rights of children to be respected, heard and protected.

Outreach teams work as the hands and feet of Causeway traveling out into the community and supporting service users. Outreach coordinators are organized and caring. They assist by supporting current advocates with their cases, offering guidance and instruction on safeguarding and complex cases. They will complete administrative duties in line with The Salvation Army Modern Slavery Contract, ensuring KPIs are met across the department. In addition to this they help to train and induct new advocates into the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Oversight of Staff:

• Management of advocates in the team. Including but not limited to: interviews, supervisions, appraisals and managing leave requests

This position will focus on delivery of the Preventing Intimate Partner Abuse (“PIPA”) course – comprising individual and group sessions - and working closely with Thames Valley Police. RISE has also developed a range of Out of Court Resolution interventions for a range of offences, which are delivered online and in person, which the postholder will deliver. These include group and one-to-one courses to address a range of specific types of offending, including domestic abuse, inappropriate sexual behaviours, hate crime, assault on emergency workers, as well as other types of offences, and any new interventions developed in the coming years. This may include acting as a single point of contact to secure the offender’s engagement, working alongside other partners to address the offender’s needs, with the aim of eliciting behaviour change and reducing reoffending

Groupwork/one-to-one delivery:

· Deliver a range of short interventions which include group work, one to ones, embedding in a multi-agency approach to domestic abuse in the area.

· Manage cases with a range of complex needs and behaviours.

· Ensure delivery is in accordance with tasks outlined in the RISE Domestic Abuse Perpetrator manual and process mapping.

· Undertake holistic assessments that identify risk and protective factors, and develop bespoke support plans. 

· Adhere to relevant group work programme manuals and deliver programme sessions to ensure the integrity of programme delivery, which is overseen by the Team Leader.

· Apply specialised materials to support your delivery to racialised and marginalised communities.

· Be responsible and accountable for working with Team Leader to ensure risk is reviewed on a regular basis.

· Practitioners will comply with the appropriate audit standards when working with perpetrators in line with RESPECT requirements.

· Use motivational interviewing techniques, trauma-informed and strength-based approaches in building a range of therapeutic skills to engage with service users to address their abusive behaviour.

· Encourage and facilitate learning with participants on a group, including proactively working to elicit behavioural change and acceptance of their behaviour towards their partner, or ex- partner.

Integrating the Safety Support Service:

· Prior to delivering Domestic Abuse interventions, liaise and share information with RISE Domestic Abuse Safety Officers or local Integrated Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVA) to ensure an integrated approach is applied to risk management.

· Attend monthly risk review meetings with Domestic Abuse Safety Advisor and Senior practitioners to ensure effective risk management procedures are always applied.

Out of Court Resolution (OOCR) courses:

· Deliver a range of Out of Court Resolution short courses online and in person.

· Ensure delivery is in accordance with tasks outlined in the RISE OOCR manual and process mapping.

· Adhere to course manual sessions and materials and ensure the integrity of programme delivery is always maintained, overseen by the Team Leader.

· Apply specialised materials to support your delivery to racialised and marginalised groups and adjust materials according to meet neuro-diversity needs, agreed by the Team leader.

· Use motivational interviewing techniques and strength-based approaches in building a range of therapeutic skills to engage with service users online and in person.

· Encourage and facilitate learning with participants online using variety of techniques like break-out, noticeboard etc.

Recording and administrative tasks:

· Ensure timely and accurate recording of all relevant data (attendance, feedback, mid-way and end of intervention reports) using systems provided and in line with performance standards.

· Ensure regular contact with the OOCR team, recording and reporting back offender compliance.

· Maintain an accurate audit trail of all relevant communication with partner organisations involved.

· Ensure completion of pre and post questionnaires in line with RISE’s Social Impact strategy.

· Contribute to the evaluation and evidencing of social impact, including questionnaires and service user case studies.

General tasks:

· Develop excellent relationships with customers and respond positively to their needs.

· Be a strong advocate for RISE interventions, representing RISE and its interventions at key stakeholder events.

· Attend Clinical Consultancy to support safe practice and develop resilience during the delivery of demanding work as directed by the Team Leader

The successful candidate will be working with adults in a residential setting delivering assessments, group sessions and one-to-one therapy to those admitted to the service. The post-holder will offer an intensive, abstinent-based programme with high levels of group therapy and a strong emphasis on aftercare support. The role will include facilitating specialist psycho-educational groups, 12 step, relapse prevention therapeutic groups and individual counselling sessions.

You will work closely with our Supported Housing team and be required to participate in regular team meetings. You will also be required to liaise with external agencies and work creatively to provide the most appropriate treatment plans for clients with complex needs. You may be required to cover occasional evening Aftercare groups.

•  Develop, facilitate, and review a group work programme that meets the needs of our clients. These might include dual diagnosis, trauma, cross-addiction, criminal justice issues and various types of substance use.
•  Provide a holistic package of care to people which meets their needs and includes working with colleagues across other teams to help residents with diversionary activities, employment, training, and education.
•  Work with the Supported Housing team to ensure residents are safe, secure, and maintain their tenancies and are prepared to move onto independent living.
•  Provide a range of one-to-one interventions that might include MI, person-centered care, CBT, DBT and trauma work.
•  Manage a caseload of individuals with a wide spectrum of needs.
•  Assist residents to understand the effects and benefits of any medication prescribed for them and the importance of complying with treatment regimes. This might include liaising with pharmacists, doctors, and psychiatrists for monitoring purposes.
•  Provide psychoeducation to raise awareness and understanding of substances and their effects.
•  Provide onward referral and liaison with wrap-around support within SCT to enable our residents to achieve social integration and personal development.

Client Management
•Coordinate and carry out assessments of new residents and the referral and acceptance process, ensuring that each client has a programme appropriate to their needs.
•  Conduct joint 3 and 6-monthly reviews with Supported Housing team colleagues.
•Provide group and individual counselling as required by the service.
•Support residents from admission until completion of treatment.

Operational Support
•Comply with all monitoring and evaluation requirements.

General Responsibilities
•Engage with and inspire people in recovery.
•Ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, free from alcohol and drugs, and free from abusive behaviour and exploitation.
•Ensure that all SCT activities are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety legislation, SCT policies and procedures, as well as good practice.
•Work within the policies and procedures of SCT.
•Implement SCT’s Equal Opportunities Policy, understanding its implication in the development of services to clients.
•Attend regular supervision sessions, both internal and external.
•Attend meetings within and on behalf of SCT as appropriate.
•Undertake other tasks consistent with the post or as delegated by your line manager.

•Ensure you are kept up to date with developments within the sector, thus enhancing your knowledge and practice
•Capture the outcomes of the therapeutic programme with all monitoring and evaluation methods that are required by your line manager, to capture the impact of SCT work, whilst ensuring the voice of SCT clients are heard.
Qualifications and Experience

ESSENTIAL
•   Educated to degree level or Diploma Level 4 in Counselling.
•Two years’ experience of therapeutic work with: people in recovery, people experiencing homelessness or people with significant trauma histories / adverse childhood experiences.
•   One year’s experience of one-to-one counselling.
•A solid working understanding of CBT, MI, Relapse Prevention techniques and/or other interventions applicable to working with people in recovery.
•Experience in delivering therapeutic group work.
•Experience in encouraging individuals to reflect on their behaviour (consequences and risks), recognise the benefits and potential for change and provide support and encouragement to help residents achieve change positively within an abstinent community.
•Using effective support systems and networks to develop own knowledge and practice.
•Adhere to the principles of confidentiality of information.
•The ability to understand and work with others’ points of view, values and beliefs.
•The ability to change working techniques based on new information or evidence.
•Able to encourage others to express their views, feelings and wishes.
•Contributes positively to debate within the staff team.
•Promotes SCT by their own standards of conduct.
•Encourages, values and respects contributions from other team members.
•Possesses good written and oral communication and IT skills.

About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

We have an exciting opportunity for a family support to join our Family Support Team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north-west London and south-west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

About the role

Family Support Workers (FSW) are the frontline of our psychosocial care. Each FSW holds a caseload of end-of-life and bereaved families. They get to know their families, and check-in regularly with phone calls and home visits and can provide enhanced emotional support where required through more regular contact and interventions. Our FSWs inform families about the different psychosocial care and many services they can access at Shooting Star, assess their needs and make recommendations to our specialist psychosocial MDT. They work hard to support families of different ethnicities and families living in poverty, so that our service is as equitable as possible.

Our FSWs work closely with our Therapists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Transition Team and our Care Events Team. Weekly specialist psychosocial MDT meetings bring the team together to think of ways to help families in crisis. The work is varied and creative, taking place at the hospices, in family homes and hospitals, allowing the support to be where the families need it. Our Family Support Workers are hugely appreciated by the families we support.

The ambition of our strategy is to ensure every family affected by a life-limiting condition, or the sudden death of a child, has access to the specialist care that they need. Day to day duties are:

• Being part of the duty rota over both sites monitoring 3 email inboxes and answering the Family Support Line.
• Supporting the events team with admin tasks and attending various events
• Providing on the spot emotional support, sometimes in a crisis where a calm and empathic response is required.
• Support the in-house team with families staying at Christopher’s for assessed nights and end of life care.
• Attend various sites over the course of a week, hospice, hospital, family homes. Planning your own diary effectively.
• Building connections with families from different backgrounds, delivering culturally competent care.
• Acting as an ambassador for Shooting Star’s Specialist Bereavement Service, supporting other care team members with their learning and delivery of the bereavement pathway, and continually seeking ways to improve quality.

About you

This role requires experience of working with children and families who have experienced hardship, presenting with complex needs. You should have a calm positive manner, be consistent in your approach, and convey empathy whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
