Our client is looking for an experienced Advice Lead to join their team, ensuring the integrity and compliance of their Advice Service and Programmes. The Charity:
Aphasia Support is a passionate, community-centred charity. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with Aphasia and their carers by providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support. We want to create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence.
The charity currently has 4 staff members (Chief Executive, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Administrator) and 8 Speech and Language Therapists working for the charity on a sessional basis. The sessional workers oversee our 1to1 support and aphasia cafes. The charity has over 60 volunteers who provide the 1to1 support and help run our aphasia cafes.
The Role:
Aphasia Support is looking to recruit a Community Engagement & Volunteer Officer who will work with the charity’s speech and language therapy team and volunteers in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley to ensure our support reaches the people who need it most.
We envisage this to be a split role:
- 3 days focused on ensuring people in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley receive timely support through the charity's community-based Aphasia Cafe's and at-home 1:1 speech and language therapy service.
- 2 days focused on overseeing the charity's volunteer recruitment and retention programme, ensuring Aphasia Support's valued volunteers receive the best possible experience, utilising their time and resource to create the biggest impact.

Main duties will include:
·Processing of new referrals into the charity alongside the current SLT Assistant. Contacting new referrals and outlining the charity’s 1to1 support and aphasia café support offer and completing initial referral paperwork via phone and email.
· Gaining a thorough understanding of the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity and supported conversation techniques. You will work towards being the resident expert on the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity.
· Matching people with aphasia with volunteers for our 1to1 support service within West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley.
· Completing initial appointments in the client’s home alongside volunteers. Taking speech and language therapy assessments and turning them into clear therapy plans that can be delivered confidently by the volunteers.
· Provide ongoing advice and support to volunteers and clients.
· Provide home based 1to1 support for clients, if required.
- Leading on volunteer recruitment for all areas of the charity by liaising with the charity’s Fundraising & Communications Manager alongside branch committees, volunteer centres, universities, colleges and NHS volunteering teams.
· Screening of new volunteers and administering of reference and DBS checks.
· Leading on the charity’s quarterly volunteer inductions.
· On occasion supporting the charity’s event fundraising calendar which will require some evening work.
· If required, supporting the running of the charity’s aphasia cafes.
· Completing other tasks which are commensurate with the role
Person Specification
Essential
· Good general level of education or equivalent work-based experience
· Excellent organisational skills and time management skills.
· Good administrative and record keeping skills including strong attention to detail.
· Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both verbally and in writing
· Good technical literacy of Microsoft Applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
· Experience working with CRM databases, and maintaining accurate records
· Highly confident user of technology, specifically iPads, with a willingness to learn about speech and language therapy apps.

All Complex Needs Practitioners (Recovery Worker) work flexibly across the community and within our multi-agency partnership settings. The caseload will include a mixture of community and multi-agency referral pathways including health and social care. You will join our caring multi-disciplinary teams, to help empower you to provide quality psychosocial interventions to our diverse client groups.
A core part of the role will be working with people to address holistic support needs across all aspects of the person’s substance use and wellbeing. This could include diverse work related to physical and emotional health, meaningful use of time, family and relationships, community engagement and activities, accommodation, physical and emotional health, offending as well as substance use (drug use and / or alcohol use).
An energetic and confident self-starter, you have a qualification in health/social care, youth and community work (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies). Alternatively, we’ll consider candidates with experience of working in the substance misuse field with a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. Experience of liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals and engaging effectively with clients in a variety of settings is essential. As Company Secretary, you'll be responsible for ensuring that their governance practices, legal compliance and risk frameworks are not only robust, but forward-thinking, inclusive and empowering.
Key aspects of the role:
- Lead the governance function and develop frameworks, policies and systems that support accountability, learning and effective oversight
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with the Board, ELT, and wider teams to embed good governance at every level
- Deliver high-quality support for all Board and Committee meetings, including agenda planning, minutes, follow-up, and action tracking
- Manage statutory compliance and reporting, including submissions to Companies House and the Charity Commission
- Oversee the Association's risk management framework, working with the ELT to ensure risks are understood, monitored, and well-managed
- Take the lead on trustee recruitment, onboarding and succession planning
- Respond to serious complaints on behalf of the CEO or Chair, overseeing investigations and ensuring learning is captured
- Monitor and report on governance performance and stay alert to changes in legislation or sector standard.
We're looking for:
- A senior governance professional, ideally with charity or membership body experience
- Strong understanding of UK charity and company law, compliance and risk
- Experience advising Boards and senior leadership with confidence and diplomacy
- Excellent judgement, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- CGI qualified (or working towards) desirable, but not essential

Where you’ll be based
Field Studies Council Epping Forest is situated in the heart of Epping Forest, an area of around 2,400 hectares of wood-pasture stretching from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex.
Two thirds of the Forest have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Our purpose built, fully accessible centre has six classrooms, and associated facilities, with direct access into our teaching sites which include woodland, grassland, heath, and river.

About Amala:
Amala’s mission is to use the power of education to transform the lives of young refugees, their communities and the world. We are a founder-led, non-profit organisation with big ambitions to create a deep and lasting impact for young people who are displaced. We have developed the first, internationally accredited, upper secondary level programme for out of school refugees and crisis affected youth, and currently reach approximately 1400 students a year. As demand for our education programmes continues to grow, and in line with our 2024-2027 strategic plan, we aim to triple the number of young people we serve, reaching at least 5,800 students per year by 2027. Our bold vision is that millions of refugee youth have access to transformative education by 2040.
Our team is fully remote, with our Global Team based in the UK, Canada, Singapore and Greece. We also have two learning centres, one in Amman, Jordan and one in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya and work with a growing list of partners across Kenya, Uganda and Malaysia.
The Opportunity:
This is where this new role comes in: The Head of Fundraising will play a crucial role in supporting the stewardship of the current donors while also securing the vital resources needed to realise our bold ambition and help us transform the lives of millions of young refugees and conflict affected youth across the globe.
You will be part of leading a growing and changing organisation, and will work closely with Amala’s two Co-founders and the Fundraising Manager to develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy, cultivate and deepen key donor relationships and boost our income growth from our current £800k towards our £3 million target by 2027, driving the financial sustainability necessary for Amala’s continued growth and impact.

Who we are looking for:
A strategic, entrepreneurial and ambitious senior fundraiser with a proven track record of securing significant UK and international funding (£1m+ annual income generation), developing high-impact strategies, and building strong donor relationships. You will be an inspiring leader with exceptional people management skills, with experience in leading growing organisations, and who enjoys the strategic side of the role as well as having a hands on approach.
The role would be best suited to someone who is committed to making a difference to the lives of young refugees, with a strong grounding in international charity sector fundraising. and international funding.
Essential experience:

Proven experience in a senior fundraising management role within the non-profit sector, ideally within international development.

A proven track record of success in fundraising, particularly in developing and executing complex fundraising strategies for a growing non-profit organisation.

Experience developing and implementing multi-year income generation plans.

A strong history of securing six-figure, multi-year grants and contracts in the UK and internationally, with an annual income generation of £1m+.

Senior-level experience managing relationships with multiple, diverse funders and donors.

Experience writing successful partnership bids, grant proposals, cases for support, and theories of change.

Experience in leading change in a growing organisation.

At least three years of experience leading and managing a team, with a track record of developing and supporting staff.
What we offer:
This full time, fully remote position offers a salary of £50,000-55,000 if you are a UK resident. If you reside in a different location, the salary will be adjusted accordingly. You will work closely with a driven, collaborative, entrepreneurial and supportive team from around the world, and you are required to be in a time zone GMT +/- 3 hours.
