Context and Background
The NSPCC's vision is that together, we can stop child abuse and neglect. Through the collective power of our staff, volunteers, supporters, partners, and over 100 years of experience we will move closer to achieving that vision.
We launched our ten-year strategy in 2021, which is centred around three impact goals. This is the difference we want to make by 2031:
1. Everyone plays their part to prevent child abuse: we'll work together to make it easier for everyone to play their part and create a social safety net that prevents child abuse and neglect.
2. Every child is safe online: together, we'll transform the online world, so it's safe for every child to go online.
3. Children feel safe, listened to and supported: more children will be able to speak out, so they feel safe, listened to and understood - and abuse doesn't shape their future.
The Policy and Public Affairs (PAPA) team is part of the Strategy and Knowledge Directorate at the NSPCC. The Directorate exists to help shape the world around us - and what the NSPCC does - so that it reflects what we have learned and can help keep children safe from abuse.
The PAPA team works across the four nations of the UK to influence legislation, policy and practice to ensure they are as effective as possible in keeping children safe. We focus on policy priorities through our five core workstreams: the child protection system and children's social care; early years and health; child sexual abuse; online safety; and young victims and witnesses.
We are recruiting a Senior Policy Research Officer to develop and deliver our early years and health policy work to deliver real change and reform in the best interests of children.
The post holder will work in the UK/England part of the Policy and Affairs Team focussed on influencing the Westminster Government. The role involves a variety of responsibilities including policy research, policy development and public affairs. This is a great opportunity to drive policy work in an exciting policy area, by building a strong evidence base and contributing to effective influencing strategies.

Are you excited to roll up your sleeves and be part of the growth and evolution of a dynamic anti-poverty charity? Are you adept at building relationships and an outstanding communicator? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
As our Fundraising Officer, you will have the exciting opportunity to make a huge difference in improving the lives of people living in hygiene poverty. Working to secure vital funding for the charity’s work and particularly our volunteer-led projects across the UK, you will work closely with the Senior Volunteer Experience, Communications and Fundraising Manager and Head of Fundraising, Communications and External Engagement. You’ll create new income generation streams, manage trusts and foundations’ bid writing and help deliver all fundraising and stewardship initiatives.
The Hygiene Bank is at a pivotal point in its journey as it embarks on its three-year strategy for growth. The charity has grown rapidly since its creation in 2018 and has exciting plans in its mission to end hygiene poverty. The income generation team will play a critical role in this changing organisation.
If you fit this profile and want to use your talents to improve the lives of people across the UK and are interested in remote working opportunities in a flexible organisation with a values-led ethos, we would love to hear from you!
About The Hygiene Bank
Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts people’s options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat, or be clean. It is washing hair, bodies, faces and clothes in the same cheap washing up liquid used for the dishes. It is not being able to replace a toothbrush when needed or sharing a toothbrush because one each just isn't an option. It is having to choose between shaving foam and razors or the transport fare to a job interview.
Hygiene Poverty is the hidden crisis facing the UK. In 2022, The Hygiene Bank published groundbreaking research into the incidence and impact of hygiene poverty. It found that over 3.1 million adults across the country are currently experiencing hygiene poverty and that it is both alarmingly widespread, increasing and disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable. It stops people from participating in society, feeds the mental health crisis and blocks routes out of poverty. It is simply unjust.
At The Hygiene Bank, we believe that everyone deserves to feel clean. That is why our network of projects exists – to give people access to the basics they need.

About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on the delivery of our new organisational strategy to end homelessness. You will directly contribute to this by supporting policy change, helping to improve practice, and by supporting other organisations to end homelessness too.
Contract: 9-month Fixed Term Contract, Maternity Cover
Location: To be based in any of the Crisis Skylights in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham, Oxford, South Wales, Central London, Croydon, or Brent, but with home working as an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid Working Policy
About the role
As Crisis looks forward to the next decade, we have a clear vision of how homelessness can be ended in the UK. This will be achieved by securing the policy changes that will solve homelessness, by delivering services that end homelessness for people and places, and by building a community of people across Britain who are helping to end homelessness.
As Senior Best Practice Officer, you will support each of these areas. You will work alongside Crisis’ policy, communications, and campaigns teams in England, Scotland, and Wales, to further Crisis’ policy objectives and ambition through knowledge and practice examples.
You will support the development of Crisis’s own services across Skylight Centres informed by best practice identified internally and externally. This will include leading a Community of Practice within Crisis.
You will support communities across Britain that are helping to end homelessness, by building relationships with external organisations and supporting the development of tools and resources to enable them to end homelessness. For example, you will be directly involved in exciting projects like developing a Built for Zero approach in defined areas and supporting our charity partner Lloyds Banking Group to develop their approaches to ending homelessness too.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have great networking skills and be good at making relationships across different sectors.
You’ll understand how local authorities and wider public bodies work and be able to build connections and rapport with individuals working there.
You’ll understand housing and homelessness systems and the current legal frameworks that underpin them across the UK. You’ll know how services can be designed to make sure that those who need help can get it and how to listen to the voices of those who use it.
You’ll be passionate about change and seeing homelessness ended, with a drive and energy to shape the role to do this.
We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. We know that the more perspectives, voices, and experiences we can bring to this work, the better. We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of homelessness, and people from all marginalised groups, communities, and backgrounds.

About us:
Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change. We are now looking for a Senior Director to lead our SASHA Coalition.
What’s the role?
The Skies And Seas Hydrogen-fuels Accelerator (SASHA) Coalition aims to unify aviation and shipping to raise awareness of the vital role of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide from direct air capture in the decarbonisation of these two sectors. The Coalition is now well established with 5 exciting company members on the cutting edge of climate innovation. We are now moving into the next phase of work and are seeking to recruit a Senior Director to ensure that the Coalition achieves maximum impact. As Senior Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the decarbonisation of two large sectors: aviation and shipping. You could be instrumental in helping move these sectors to truly sustainable fuels, side-stepping non-solutions like biofuels and LNG. This is a fantastic role for someone who wants to combine their passions for supporting ambitious companies in their climate journey with directing and shaping policy.
You will manage a team of brilliant policy and corporate engagement experts as they work with the SASHA Coalition’s membership and seek to influence policymakers. We are looking for someone who can think strategically about growing the Coalition to ensure it maintains its ambition while increasing membership.
You will report to the Chief Strategy & Impact Officer (though in the immediate term to the CEO during a period of parental leave). The team will be growing over the next year and you will have the chance to direct the growth of the team. With elections approaching in the UK and the EU, you will also shape and execute the strategy to influence the next UK Government and EU Commission.
Essential competencies
We are looking for a candidate with:
- An inspirational leadership style, who is brave enough to tell the truth about the climate crisis but is also comfortable working with corporate actors to bring out their highest ambition.
- Great management skills, who can get the best out of our excellent existing team and be ready and willing to grow the team over time.
Desirable skills and experience:
We do not expect any candidate to have all skills listed below but rather we look for transferable skills and potential as well as past experience.
- Experience working with corporate actors to improve and drive ambition
- Experience with partner management and engagement towards positive coalition building
- Ability to get to grips with technological and policy detail around aviation, shipping and hydrogen and to know when that detail is needed in policymaker meetings
- Experience of influencing policymakers, preferably at EU and UK levels
- Experience of leading a team and working with staff to inspire the greatest possible impact, including remote staff
- Ability to clearly articulate a theory of change and direct a team to articulate that theory of change
- Active listening skills, negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
- An engaging public speaker
- Ability to think critically, independently and creatively
- Effective at building relationships at all levels of the organisation
- Experience of philanthropy and fundraising for an NGO
- Be willing to travel frequently to meetings, conferences and other events, including across Europe, particularly in Brussels
Diversity and inclusion:
Diversity and inclusion are important principles at OG. We believe that diversity and inclusion make teams stronger and more effective. We are committed to fair and equitable employment practices, and we are striving to ensure that a variety of voices and experiences are included in our organisation. Our commitment to diversity and our parental leave policy are available to view on our website, here.
We will consider all applicants who meet most or all of the essential competencies regardless of their identity or background. That said, we know that diverse candidates may be reluctant to apply for jobs where they don’t meet 100% of the criteria outlined in the job description. We encourage anyone to apply who can demonstrate the variety of skills and experiences relevant to meeting the requirements of this role.
We recognise that many diverse experiences and perspectives are not represented in our current workforce, and are seriously underrepresented across the non-profit sector in general, and as such, we particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, people of colour, people from marginalised backgrounds, and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. We will use positive action under the Equality Act 2010 to appoint from these groups if two candidates are equally qualified. We also value flexible working and are open to those who would want to work part-time in this role.
What we offer
The successful candidate will be offered an annual salary of £80,000 plus 10% employer-contributed pension. Please note that OG has fixed salary scales, with the possibility of step increases with strong performance. When hiring we always hire at the bottom of a band and do not enter negotiations with new employees as negotiations have been historically shown to disadvantage women and minorities.
We take our team’s well-being and professional development seriously. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:
- A commitment to work/life balance, with a 4-day work week at 28 hours
- A generous holiday entitlement of 20 days holidays per year, plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year’s that does not count towards your holiday entitlement (and expectation that you fully disconnect when taking time off)
- A market-leading pension of 10% employer contribution
- A progressive parental leave policy, including 26 weeks’ paid leave for both parents
- Lots of flexibility within a hybrid working arrangement, with regular opportunities to come together as a team
- Support for your professional development as part of Opportunity Green, with a budget to support your learning & development plus opportunities to lead projects, publish content, learn from experts, work directly with policymakers and stakeholders, and take part in conferences and events.
However, it is important to note that while this role is permanent, employment is always reliant on Opportunity Green continuing to receive philanthropic support from our funders, which we expect every member of the team to play their part in working towards.
