Job description

Here at Charity Horizons we are honoured to be supporting Behind Closed Doors in their search for a new Chief Executive to play a significant role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation moving forwards. The work of this charity provides a lifeline for those affected by domestic abuse and offers salvation in the darkest of times.

With a significant rise in reported cases of abuse due to Covid-19, this role presents a unique opportunity to lead this organisation in its next phase of development, expanding its reach and continuing its work at a time when its services are needed more than ever.

Behind Closed Doors strives to enable people to cope, recover and move on from domestic violence, regardless of gender or sexuality. The charity offers two arms of support services – a team that provides practical support to help those at risk of harm; and a team that provides emotional support to victims of abuse.

This multi-faceted role will involve the leadership of the organisation’s strategic direction, inspiring the team and finding new ways to grow the charity’s support and fundraising base. The role will also require operational leadership of the charity, overseeing the delivery of all services and the effective maintaining of quality standards.

To be considered for this role you must come to us with a demonstrable track record of achieving in a senior strategic leadership role in the voluntary or public sector and experience working within senior leadership or with boards. You must also have significant experience working with external stakeholders to effectively influence change, and experience of forming successful external partnerships. Although previous experience of working within domestic violence would be advantageous, this is not essential to the role; however, it is imperative you have a sound and extensive knowledge and understanding of the cause and effect of domestic violence. Most importantly you should possess strong networking skills and be known for your ability to build excellent relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Influential, clear and charismatic you should be a strong and confident communicator and public speaker with an ability to deliver messages to a variety of audiences while building a sense of passion and engagement.

To find out more about this exciting opportunity please contact either Charlie or Leanne at Charity Horizons. The role closes on 21st September with interviews scheduled for the week commencing 5th and 12th October.

BCD is committed to recruiting with care and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. As an organisation we expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Background checks and Disclosed Barring Service checks will be required.

Please note: Only female applicants will be progressed as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Charity Horizons is an equal opportunities employer and, as such, actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
