Following an internal promotion, we are looking for our next Senior Special Events Executive to join our high performing Special Events team. Together, the team delivers a range of special events which raises vital funds to save the lives of people with cancer, including:
- Recital 4 Research, an opera recital and reception;
- The Royal Marsden Cup, our annual golf day; and
- the Ever After Garden, our flagship and high profile annual remembrance garden in Chelsea, which last year was visited by HRH The Princess of Wales and over 190,000 visitors
In this role you will help deliver our portfolio of events, which will include:
- coordinating speakers,
- liaising with suppliers,
- managing senior volunteers,
- supporting in donor meetings,
- securing high value auction and raffle prizes, and
- writing donor communications.
Your support will ensure that as a team we deliver outstanding donor experiences and event outcomes.You will be joining us at an exciting time as we seek to grow our portfolio and deliver income growth from high value fundraising committees and special events.

We are seeking a creative and conscientious communications leader with exceptional attention to detail and demonstrable expertise in developing and delivering high-impact strategic communications outputs in the international development or third sector. We are a relatively small team and are therefore looking for someone who is both highly strategic and able to see the ‘big picture’, while also being happy getting stuck in at an operational level to ensure timely, on-budget delivery of outputs. Experience of working with or within networks or membership organisations would be a particular asset in this role. It is also important that you are comfortable working across all areas – from digital, to design, to publishing, to events – as well as being an exceptional project manager, confident liaising with a range of partners and stakeholders at different levels, and an experienced line manager.
The Global Distributors Collective (GDC) is in an excellent position, with a strong track record of delivery and impact, a solid funding pipeline, and a clear 2026-30 strategy. High-impact communication crosscuts the entire GDC programme and is essential to ensuring that beneficial products can be made affordable and available to all. As Communications Manager (maternity cover), you will therefore need to both hit the ground running to deliver our ambitious schedule of upcoming communications activities – from in-person and online events, to high-profile research, publications, and digital outputs – as well as to work proactively with the Head of GDC, Bopinc team, GDC strategic advisors, and fellow communications colleagues to shape and embed communication activities across a range of new projects that are kicking off in 2026-27.
About Practical Action and the GDC
Practical Action is an international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world. For the past eight years, Practical Action has been hosting and building the Global Distributors Collective (GDC): a collective of 300 last mile distribution companies that cumulatively reach millions of the poorest consumers in the world with beneficial products like solar lanterns, water filters and improved cookstoves. GDC activities are delivered in collaboration with strategic and implementing partner Bopinc.
The GDC provides a collective voice for distributors to ensure their priorities are heard; drives research and innovation across the sector; facilitates the exchange of information, insight, and expertise; and provides critical services that leverage economies of scale.
Moving into our 2026-30 strategy phase, we are proactively shifting from creating and setting up advisory services and tools that support last mile distributors to embedding and scaling these initiatives. Specifically, we will focus on four key strategic pillars:
· Unlocking finance: Prepare more last mile distributors (LMDs) for investment and help to unlock country-level financing mechanisms and create LMD-focussed debt facilities.
· Strengthening business performance: Deliver training, shared services, and data tools that reduce business costs and improve efficiency, in scalable formats.
· Scaling innovation: Identify, test, and replicate high-value business innovations and remove eco-system barriers.
· Shaping systems and local leadership: Build local chapters and influence global and national agendas so LMDs are visible, valued and represented.
About you
We are looking for a go-getting, ambitious and proactive communications specialist who is ready to lead the GDC communications team to deliver a range of high-impact, top-quality, communications activities over the next 12 months. To succeed in this role, you must be a communications all-rounder, an experienced line manager, and an excellent written and verbal communicator with exceptional attention to detail, robust project management and interpersonal skills. You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to multitask, work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment, while also being willing to “muck in” in our relatively small team. Depending on where you are based, demonstrable experience of managing remote staff will be important; as will the ability to thoughtfully support and coach team members to achieve their full potential.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. About the role
As Senior Supporter Retention Officer (Loyalty and Regular Giving), you will lead the development of supporter-led, multi-channel fundraising campaigns. You’ll design bespoke supporter journeys that build loyalty and develop regular giving campaigns, including upgrade, conversion and reactivation. The Role
We need a proactive and hands-on Marketing & Communications Manager to drive the delivery of the next phase of our communications and marketing strategies.
This role is about more than messaging or promotion—it’s about co-creating and delivering a compelling and inspiring narrative of creative climate action. Along with our Marketing and Comms Leads, you will be responsible for our brand, storytelling, content strategy, and creative outputs - originating concepts, internal design work, and driving conversion - ensuring that everything we do reflects our values, amplifies our impact, and deepens our reach across the cultural and climate landscape. You’ll be responsible for independently creating, repurposing and distributing engaging content in a consistent voice across our digital channels. This will involve growing our audiences, media contacts and networks, including welcoming new cultural organisations, creative practitioners, environmental partners, and funders into our network. You will be part of a small Marketing and Communications team and work closely with the rest of JB’s 20-person, supportive and mission-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
Content, Socials & Campaigns
- Lead on the development of timely, engaging, inclusive content across all JB’s digital channels (including copy-writing across channels, website, newsletters and social media).
- Lead on a JB bulletin strategy, with pre-planned themes aligning with our aims and a readership growth plan (working closely with our Marketing Lead and CRM manager) as well as leading on the writing, preparing and distributing segmented bulletins for the sector and key programmes (with content support from across the team).
- Maintain, manage and optimise editorial calendars that reflect our programmes, partnerships, research, and events and regularly engage the programme leads in the process.
- Alongside the Comms and Marketing Leads, oversee and support the production, publication, marketing, distribution and evaluation of JB’s full range of content including podcasts, films, events, briefings, reports, guides and resource libraries related to the climate, nature and justice crisis, ensuring appropriate tone and key messages.
- Leading on the production of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements, including associated thought-leadership pieces, and the production of a public annual report.

CRM, Partnerships & Audience Development
- Taking responsibility for the day to day management and maintenance of JB’s newly implemented CRM, ensuring audience segmentation according to latest data protection, use and access requirements (with support from JB’s dedicated CRM Manager, Marketing Lead, and Digital Champions).
- Nurturing relationships with relevant networks and partners, identifying and collating regular updates and opportunities.
- Collaborate with cultural, environmental, and funding partners to co-create engaging shared messaging, campaigns, and communications assets to bring in new business opportunities.
Brand, Creative & Strategy
- Jointly responsible for brand implementation when deputising for Marketing and Comms Leads, ensuring coherence of messaging and tone across all channels and materials.
- Draft internal and external reference guides for JB’s work, including the preparation of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements and the production of a public annual report.

- Ensure Julie’s Bicycle’s story, brand, voice, and impact are clearly represented in all collaborations and public-facing materials.

Advertised at Officer or Senior Officer level (subject to experience), the role delivers direct and digital marketing communications to grow awareness, and recruit and engage with new long-term CBM supporters, through creative and impactful fundraising communications.
Key responsibilities:
The position holder is responsible for developing and delivering fundraising campaigns that will engage with CBM target individual audiences; supporting the development of the annual public fundraising plan; building supporter journeys and testing new channels and messages.
Working closely with the Head of Marketing and across the Fundraising & Communications team to plan, coordinate and deliver donor acquisition appeals to recruit new individual supporters, using a variety of direct and digital marketing channels.
Regular giving (mostly monthly Direct Debits) are a large part of CBMs donor acquisition activity, and as such, part of this acquisition role is the planning and co-ordination of regular giving conversion, recruitment, retention, and upgrade campaigns.
Donor Acquisition (30%)
- Working alongside the Head of Marketing and external agencies to plan and deliver a supporter recruitment programme, using channels that may include, but not limited to, inserts, press adverts, and door drops. email, paid social media adverts, Pay Per Click Googe adverts, and lead generation activities.
- Optimise the performance (traffic and income) of website fundraising pages, including appeal landing pages and donation platforms. Ensuring pages on the CBM website are engaging to existing and new audiences and utilising Search Engine Optimisation tools.
- Plan and coordinate an off-line and online welcome journey for new supporters to CBM, that will encourage ongoing engagement and long-term support.
- Develop excellent working relationships with existing and new agencies and suppliers, including marketing agencies, writers, designers, print suppliers and mailing houses. Source new agencies and suppliers as appropriate.
Regular Giving (20%)
- As part of the regular giving retention plan, deliver inspiring direct and digital marketing communications and updates to monthly supporters about CBMs work and the people their gifts are supporting. This can involve creating briefs, working alongside freelance copywriters and designers, and managing print and fulfilment suppliers.
- Working alongside our inhouse Supporter Relations team and external telephone fundraising agencies to co-ordinate regular giving conversion, upgrade and retention campaigns over the telephone.
- Deliver, test and refine a welcome and ongoing donor journey for regular giving supporters, across digital, post and phone channels, to update and thank supporters.
Legacy and In-Memoriam Giving (20%)
- Work alongside the Head of Marketing and Senior Supporter Relations Officer to develop marketing plans for legacy and in-memoriam giving.
- Responsible for legacy and in-memoriam giving direct mail and email appeals, and work alongside the Communications Team to ensure the legacy and in-memoriam giving website pages inspire new and existing supporters to support CBM in these ways.
New product testing (20%)
a. Test and develop new fundraising ideas, channels and messages to engage with and raise funds from new and existing audiences.
b. Maintain an awareness and anticipation of charity sector trends relating to direct marketing and keep abreast of competitor activities to enable CBM to respond and adapt quickly where appropriate.
Planning and reporting (10%)
- Analysis and reporting of appeals and projects, providing learnings that will enable informed decision making around future activity.
- Develop a good knowledge of the CRM system (Salesforce) and ensure appropriate recording and reporting of direct marketing activity.
Other
- Ensure the consistent implementation of CBMs brand, key messages and style guide in fundraising activities.
- Awareness of, and compliance across direct marketing, of Fundraising Regulator and Data Protection legal requirements (GDPR and PECR).
- Work with other teams, including the CBM Global Federation, to maximise collaboration opportunities and integrated working.
- Help develop a culture of enthusiasm, continual improvement and success which reflects the ambitions of CBM UK.
- Occasional out of normal office working hours. Occasional travel in the UK and possibility of travel internationally.
