Age UK Wandsworth is a local, independent charity that works to promote the wellbeing of all older people in the London Borough of Wandsworth. We offer a variety of services with the goal of helping older to age well in Wandsworth.

As Governance Manager you will be responsible for delivering a high quality, professional, and effective governance service across the Federation and associated entities. You will work closely with our CEO, Governance & Programmes Officer, Board and other volunteers and leaders as required to deliver a number of key governance activities. This includes virtual and in-person meetings of the WFSA Board, Council, and General Assembly.

Job Title: Deputy Service Manager

Location:  Latimer Road, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) - Walking distance from Latimer Road underground station (Circle and Hammersmith and City Lines). Please note that unfortunately this service does not have step free access.

Salary: £34,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 09:00 - 17:00. Some flexibility maybe required depending on the needs of the service. 

About the role

As Deputy Service Manager, you’ll support the Service Manager to ensure high quality service delivery. You’ll be a key contact for staff, helping them feel supported, skilled and confident in their roles. This service supports residents who have experienced long term street homelessness with challenges such as mental health issues, substance use and alcohol dependency. You’ll help create a positive, supportive environment where both staff and residents can thrive and residents can work towards recovery and greater independence.

You will be working within a 24 hour service which provides person centred support to our residents. Some key responsibilities include:

Our client is one of the largest women's hostels in the UK for vulnerable women affected by homelessness. They offer support to women with a range of complex needs, including substance misuse, mental health issues and domestic violence, and provide these support services in a warm, welcoming and secure environment. They are now recruiting for a strong and supportive manager to help lead their Support Services. This role is initially a 6 month fixed term contract and will be on-site working (one day from home).

As Support Services Manager, you will line manage a team of frontline staff and will oversee the Support and Night services, consisting of 30 bed spaces for women with high support complex needs; the service aims to offer holistic support to these women, working alongside a range of partner organisations to facilitate a step-down move-on for women into semi-independent living. You will work to create and maintain key partnerships, continually ensuring that a high quality of service is delivered to all service users of the Project.

To be considered for this position, you must have significant housing management experience, as well as extensive knowledge and appreciation of the challenges faced by homeless women. You must have demonstrable experience of leading frontline staff, as well as significant safeguarding experience. You will also have proven working experience of contract monitoring and of setting and influencing strategy. Ultimately you will be enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to leading a team to deliver the best quality of support to vulnerable homeless women.

- Drive business planning activities within your contract, ensuring relevant and challenging objective setting and ongoing performance tracking, developing turn around action plans as may be necessary
- Work with the Young People directorate, contributing to and delivering the vision and strategy of our pathway
- Maintaining excellent relationships with the local council, commissioning team, landlords, and housing team
- Using sound financial and accounting principles, manage contract budgets to deliver on corporate and local contract financial targets

The role is essential for providing continuity and communication across the Operations Team, including Pilots, Fire Crew and the medical team, to enable daily operations to run smoothly.
