The Network of Wellbeing (NOW) is looking for two new Trustees to guide and support the NOW team (above). We’re particularly keen to find someone to act as our Company Secretary and another to advise and guide the management of our staff and volunteers. The Network of Wellbeing connects people, supports projects and inspires action for the wellbeing of people and the planet. We would love to bring on board two new Trustees who care passionately about our vision of people and the planet thriving together.

Trustees play an essential role in any charity and the Network of Wellbeing is no exception. Trustees are the supreme governing body in a charity. They determine its aims, its strategy and oversee all its operations. They are responsible in law for ensuring that it delivers its charitable objects.

Trustees also bring vital skills and experience to the charity’s management. We have reviewed the expertise and roles played by our existing Trustees – and found that they have strengths in business development, charity governance and environmental sustainability, to name but a few. They use their knowledge – and their wisdom – to guide the staff and inform key strategic decisions – and our existing Trustees gain a deep sense of joy and fulfilment from the role they play.

We are now looking for two new Trustees to complement and strengthen our existing Board. We are especially keen to find:

• someone to be our Company Secretary: This person will be responsible for:
  • advising Trustees and the Director on corporate governance and financial management;
  • overseeing the preparation of agendas and the taking of accurate minutes;
  • keeping up to date with regulatory or statutory changes and policies that might affect us;
  • liaising with our auditors, Companies House and the Charities Commission.
• someone to advise on and guide the management of our team of staff and volunteers. This would include:
  • advising Trustees and the Director on all matters relating to the management of staff and volunteers;
  • ensuring we have an up to date suite of policies and procedures;
  • guiding the management of the staff, including on pay, to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Trustees have the opportunity to use their skills and experience to help others and to further a cause they are passionate about – something wellbeing experts argue is key to living a meaningful life.

The commitment is four two-hour meetings per year – three of which meetings which are held online. We also like our Trustees to come and see us annually (in Devon) in person at least once.

DataKind UK is a small charity with a vision for a strong, thriving third sector that embraces data use to become more impactful. We connect third sector organisations with data professionals to improve their decision making, problem solving, and working practices, by applying data science approaches to sector-wide challenges.

You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Cirencester and South Cotswold Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills. 

Time commitment

Children Change Colombia (CCC) is seeking a finance and investment trustee based in the UK and/or in Colombia to join our dynamic team that operates in the UK and Colombia.

Children Change Colombia is the UK’s largest charity with more than 30 years experience working exclusively in Colombia. We believe that, with the appropriate support, Colombian children can claim their right to live safely and in peace and demand that the adults responsible for protecting their rights do so – in this way, children can change Colombia. Over the last three decades, CCC has helped more than 65,000 children to overcome the trauma of poverty, armed conflict, displacement, and the lack of education, and has invested 15 million pounds in more than 50 multiannual projects all across the country.

We seek to complement the work of others and avoid duplication whenever possible. One of our key aims is to work on issues that are neglected by others and bring innovation where opportunities are short. Many of the projects we support are pioneering services for children in areas where such services do not already exist. For instance, we work in schools in remote villages near the Pacific coast where state institutions are weak and few NGOs operate. In cases where other organisations do operate services for children, we collaborate with our partners to help them identify these organisations and then determine how they can work to complement and improve existing services.

The finance and investment trustee will be part of the Board of Trustees and support the Fundraising efforts, contribute to the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, with a particular focus on the effective stewardship of new strategies for funding such an endowment. This includes ensuring new sources of charitable income are managed in accordance with legal and ethical standards, aligned with the charity’s long-term mission, and capable of delivering sustainable income for future generations. 

Reports to: Chair of the Board of Trustees

Their main duties and responsibilities include:

• Fulfil all legal duties of a charity trustee as defined by the Charity Commission and the Charities Act 2011.

• Oversee the establishment and ongoing management of the funds in line with the charity’s objectives and governing documents.

• Work with fellow trustees and senior staff to develop and approve the investment policy statement and spending policy for all sources of income.

• Monitor investment performance and ensure all funds are managed by appropriately qualified fund managers.

• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards relating to investments, including responsible investment principles if adopted.

• Participate in the finance subcommittee and other investments subcommittee that may be created.

• Contribute to risk management relating to the new sources of income, including market volatility and inflationary pressures.

Board members are legally responsible for the organisation and for supporting effective management of its resources. In particular, the responsibilities of a Member of the Board of

Trustees are as follows:

• Direct the affairs of CCC, ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable objects for which it has been set up, as a joint responsibility with the other board members.

• Ensure that CCC complies with charity law, and with the requirements of the Charity Commission as regulator, as a joint responsibility with the other board members

• Ensure that CCC does not breach any of the requirements or rules set out in its governing document and that it remains true to its charitable purpose, as a joint responsibility with the other board members

• Provide informed opinion and advice to board and staff on all issues relating to the functioning of the charity including programmes, fundraising, finance, and administration, where appropriate

• Attend quarterly board meetings, at CCC’s office in central London or online and to read and comment on associated documentation

• Participate in ad hoc meetings and sub-groups as requested by the Chair of the Board, according to your particular field of expertise. Reading and commenting on associated documentation as necessary.

• Being an Ambassador for the organisation at external events as required and increase the profile of the organization.

BloodForce

We work in Ghana to eliminate the burden of blood acquisition on providers and patients in crisis by leveraging technology to galvanize the public to increase Ghana’s Blood Collection Index to greater than 10 by 2030, because no patient in crisis should die from unavailability of blood products.

Ghana at 5.6 per 1000 population, is significantly behind WHO minimum standard [10 per 1,000 population] required to meet a country’s basic transfusion needs. As a result, restrictive blood disbursement policies have resulted in delayed care for critical patients in Ghana and in many cases, avoidable deaths.

We believe that public communities can be mobilized to close gaps in health care delivery, particularly in developing countries. BloodForce plans to build an online blood donor community that can reliably and meaningfully increase blood donation rates in Ghana while helping patients and families navigate their blood product health crises. This community will also serve as a platform for advocacy and education, strengthening transfusion services across the country.
