This is an exciting time to join the Medical Research Foundation, as we prepare to launch our new five-year strategy. We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Manager who can manage research funding competitions to ensure that only the very best research and very best researchers receive our support.

We know that many health conditions are overlooked and underfunded, that new health threats will continue to arise, and that there will always be a need for high-quality, high impact medical research.

Reporting to our Senior Research Manager, you will help us deliver our Research Strategy by planning, co-ordinating and delivering bespoke funding competitions in areas of high need, such as the Impact of Climate Change on Health, or Mental Health. You will also be responsible for managing awarded grants. Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Plan, co-ordinate and deliver bespoke funding competitions.
• Convene grant funding committees and prepare review guidance.
• Oversee peer review and safeguard standards: manage conflicts of interest, minute the meetings, coordinate actions and draft feedback to applicants.
• Keep abreast of developments in best practice of research management and grant funding, and introduce improvements to processes.
• Horizon scan and carry out scoping exercises in research areas of interest to the Foundation.
• Assist in development and preparation of papers, reports, briefings and documents.
• Oversee the development and delivery of scientific workshops of invited experts to develop research funding priority areas and/or support funding calls.
• Line manage one Grants Officer and have responsibility for their day-to-day work.

Who you are

You may be a Research or Grants Manager, or an experienced Research or Grants Officer looking for the next step in their career.  Or, you may have a biomedical research background, with other experience of funding competitions. You will be educated in life sciences to degree level or equivalent experience, and you may have a Masters or a PhD in a relevant discipline.

We will offer you

We will offer a salary of £45,000 to £47,000 depending on experience for a full-time 36-hour week (happy to consider part-time, min 0.8 FTE) and double-matched pension contributions up to 10% max employer contribution.  We offer 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata) per year, excellent financial, health and social benefits and an opportunity to join a dedicated team making a difference to human health.  We value spending time working in-person to develop strong connections with each other and with our mission, therefore we work from our London office for part of the week with the option to work remotely for the remainder.

The position 

In this role, you will coordinate The Society’s communications activities to ensure a coherent and impactful narrative, manage the Communications Grid, and act as a brand champion. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining networks with partner organisations and third-party suppliers, managing the communications and membership budget, and leading the establishment of key performance indicators for communications and engagement activities. You will also develop targeted narratives, oversee the production of various communications content, and monitor trends to propose innovative projects.

The Communications and Membership Manager has line management responsibility for a Senior Communications Officer, Membership and Grants Officer, and a Communities and Contents Officer.

Who are we looking for? 

The ideal candidate will have a Life-Science degree or relevant experience in Life Sciences. They should have a strong track record of developing and delivering multi-channel communications for diverse audiences, including translating complex research for lay audiences. High digital literacy is essential, encompassing digital design tools, content creation, website management, email platforms, and social media management. Experience in project management, creating accurate visual and written content for various platforms, and excellent organisational skills with a proactive problem-solving approach are required. The candidate should also have experience maintaining professional relationships, working collaboratively within a team, and line management.

ACCT UK launched its new name and brand in 2021 and we are now seeking a highly motivated Marketing Manager to continue the delivery of our engagement programme. Purpose of Role:

The purpose of this new role is to support the growth of Kinship by significantly contributing to infrastructural development, ensuring effective day-to-day operations, and seamless delivery of the HR function. As a pivotal role within Kinship, the HR Project Manager will lead on all employee lifecycle activities, creating high levels of engagement and positive experiences for staff.

Working in partnership with the Interim Head of People and Culture, Director of Finance, People and Performance, the wider management team and Kinship’s external HR consultants (HR Dept) to design, develop and embed a high-quality HR function to support the employee life cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ensure all HR matters are handled fairly, consistently, and in line with legal requirements and policies.

- Act as the first point of contact for HR queries and provide guidance to line managers.

- Lead the collation of monthly payroll data and ensure its accuracy.

- Manage HR systems and databases to process employee data in line with GDPR regulations.

- Oversee the recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring an excellent experience for candidates and hiring managers.

- Contribute to the development of Kinship's induction framework and deliver induction sessions for new joiners.

- Identify learning and development needs within the charity and create cost-effective learning plans.

- Support the development and delivery of an effective performance management framework.

- Manage an employee relations caseload and provide support and guidance to line managers.

- Contribute to the development of Kinship's EDI framework and embed EDI principles across the charity.

Skills & Experience Required:

- Demonstrable experience of supporting the development of a high-quality HR function.

- HR certification (e.g., CIPD Level 5 qualification) is essential.

- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.

- Excellent administrative and data management skills.

- Effective written and oral communication skills.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to work on own initiative and manage workload effectively.

- Experience of working in a dynamic and fast-changing environment is desirable.

Kingston Charitable Foundation (Kingston CF) is growing - in 3 years we’ve doubled our staff team thanks to a grant from the City Bridge Foundation and to date we’ve awarded over 130 grants to local charities, and community groups, who share our vision to build stronger communities where everyone’s needs are met.  We are a Place Based Giving scheme that is part of the London Funders movement.

We have also developed and delivered new participatory grant making programmes for the benefit of local individuals and families.

Now we’re looking for a confident, creative, and proactive Development Manager to join our small but dynamic Kingston CF family and develop and manage our fundraising development programme for both corporate and individual giving.  This role is the perfect fit for someone with entrepreneurial flair looking to make a real difference - both by helping to raise money for the Foundation’s vital work, and by ensuring our supporters feel valued and supported.

You’ll have innovative ideas to help us to secure new partnerships and nurture new and existing relationships to mobilise local giving. As an experienced fundraiser with a proven track record of securing major gifts or corporate partnerships at the four figure level, you’ll have a can-do attitude and a capability for developing strong networks and contacts.

You will be outcome orientated and a motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills too.

Experience

• At least three years of proven successful experience in major gifts or corporate partnerships fundraising of four figures or more.
• Proven ability to manage and develop diverse relationships.
• Excellent written and oral English language communication skills.
• Experience in writing and delivering persuasive copy for supporters.
• Thorough understanding of data protection and, specifically, UK GDPR requirements pertaining to fundraising and sponsorship work.
• Full understanding of fundraising guidelines the code of fundraising practice.
• Experience of using Salesforce or a similar CRM.

Essential skills

• Have excellent IT skills, including Office 365 / Excel.
• Have good communication and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Excellent organisational skills.

Kingston CF have no formal offices, this role is primarily home-based, with meetings in Kingston upon Thames and co-working days.

Kingston CF launched as an independent charity in January 2021, following eight successful years as local community fundraising project, Love Kingston. We are a small, dedicated team with over 30 years' third sector experience between us, and we work closely with our very supportive Board of Trustees.

• Provide funds to local support groups that have the expertise to alleviate need, enrich people’s lives and improve their life chances
