Job description

Communications Officer

Have you got a flair for writing, an eye for design and a passion for marketing and communications? Do you like being part of a great team that's fast-paced and where there's lots of support and laughter? Are you looking to develop your marketing and communications career? If so, then we want to hear from you!

At Prospect Hospice we provide vital end of life care to patients living with a life limiting illness. We also support their families and loved ones through their difficult journeys. The care we provide makes an immeasurable difference and it's all totally free of charge to patients. But, as a local charity, we need to promote ourselves, communicate what we do and fundraise in order to achieve that. And that's where this role comes in.

What is the role?

Reporting to the communications and marketing manager, you will be responsible for delivering high quality website content to drive an engaging and informative website. You will have experience of using a wide range of social media in the business environment and have written exciting copy for internal and external facing publications. You’ll also be able to amend printed material through Adobe’s InDesign software.

As a proactive member of the communications team, you’ll have a varied role working with teams across the hospice including our clinicians, fundraisers and volunteers to provide the required support to enable them to perform their roles to the highest standard.

You’ll be a pivotal member of the hospice team, building relationships internally to find the interesting stories that highlight our work and you’ll embrace innovate ways to encourage our supporters to engage with the charity.

About you:

  • Strong written and spoken English, with excellent communications skills and the ability to tailor content to a wide variety of audiences

  • Knowledge and experience of using social media in a business environment

  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Strong organisational and time management skills

  • Good knowledge of MSOffice and Adobe software including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience of communications planning and high-quality delivery

  • Experience of working in a communications role using skills in content development, media relations, social media and the production of corporate communications materials

  • Knowledge and experience of web content management systems

Support is also extended to the families, friends and carers of our patients.

What we offer

We are changing and growing. It’s an exciting time to join an independent local charity where everyone’s ideas are encouraged and staff participation is really important to us.

We’ll also provide you with a welcoming and supportive working environment, other benefits include:

  • 27 days annual leave entitlement (pro rata for part-time)

  • Contributory pension scheme (NHS transferrable)

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Family-friendly policies and practice
