Job description

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week over 5 days
Contract: 2 months, with the potential for extension

Salary: £18.80 per hour plus holiday pay
Location: Islington, hybrid (2 days in office per week)

We are seeking a Programme Officer to join a dynamic team working to protect forests and strengthen indigenous peoples’ and local communities’ rights in West and Central Africa.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects focused on land and forestry governance. You’ll work closely with programme management staff, legal experts, and cross-functional teams, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and in compliance with internal and funder requirements. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Process and monitor payment requests, invoices, and related documentation.
  • Support budget management and financial reporting.
  • Liaise with partners on financial reporting.
  • Assist with narrative and financial project reports.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Provide administrative support for contracting, due diligence, and tenders.
  • Help team members navigate internal systems and IT tools.

The Person

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in French an advantage.
  • Experienced in financial administration and supporting teams.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in international environments.
  • Skilled in Microsoft 365/Office and Excel to an advanced level.
  • Interested in environmental and human rights issues.
