Guildford Cathedral is a sacred space and a community of people who engage with God and the wider world for the common good. The core task of Guildford Cathedral is worship. Daily and Sunday choral services are the backbone of our work. We are now seeking an Events Virger to join our team and play a vital role in supporting the Cathedral’s worship and events programme.
The Role
As Events Virger, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of services and events. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and resetting the Cathedral for services, concerts, and special events. Assist with the setting up and removal of all content and furnishings requested for this activity.
- Opening and closing the Cathedral on a rota basis.
- Ensure the efficient cleaning of the Cathedral with effective use of time and materials and without the need for supervision (the team of Virgers are responsible for all the Cathedral cleaning).
- To be on duty, in accordance with the rota, on Sundays, Festival Days and other occasions, in addition to other routine duties.
- Maintain vestments, altar furnishings and vessels and prepare them for all Services.
- Operating sound and lighting systems as needed.
- Support and assist Chaplains, Guides and other volunteers as required.
- Safeguarding donations and collections.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- GCSE-level education and previous experience as a Virger.
- A sense of the value of well-ordered worship and its contribution to the Cathedral’s wider ministry and outreach.

We are a charity set up by migrants and for migrants, and every day our multilingual team of legal advisers stand up for their employment rights and secure their immigration status.
This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate with a strong sense of justice, who is looking to build a career in a legal profession. This role will suit someone who values impact, and the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable migrant workers and disadvantaged Britons.
You will be able to learn from three experienced solicitors, exercise your skills as an adviser, and progress your career in a friendly and supportive environment. The LEF Fellowship Programme will cover the cost of your mandatory legal training and exams. By the end of two years you will have had the chance to complete your SQE training and gain the required practical experience to fully qualify as a solicitor.
The role
As the Trainee Solicitor, you’ll work on a stimulating range of issues across two wide areas of law - Immigration (in Year 1) and Employment (in Year 2). You will learn how best to support vulnerable clients with limited English language and digital skills, how to spot signs of modern slavery or manage safeguarding concerns.
Working with our immigration team, you will help clients understand and secure their immigration status in the UK. You will support clients who have limited leave to remain (e.g. on employer-sponsored visas, Ukraine Visa Schemes, or pre-settled EUSS status) or who are entirely undocumented. Working with our employment team, you will work on cases involving non-payment of wages, non-provision of work, unlawful deductions, race and gender discrimination, or unfair dismissals. Crucially, you will have the opportunity to understand the real-life intersection of the two areas of law, as they are often experienced by the same clients.
This is a brilliant opportunity to gain well-rounded experience across all stages of the legal process, including interviewing clients, collecting information and assessing evidence, taking down witness statements, providing over the phone and written advice, and collating evidence bundles.
Alongside your legal work and SQE2 study, you will complete an independent social justice project aligned with your personal interests and objectives of the charity. This might entail legal research, sourcing strategic cases, or compiling data on the impact of the current policies. Working on this project will give you an opportunity to conduct strategic legal work contributing to systemic change.

Camilla started her career in Events Management, having learnt first at The Institute of Masters of Wine, and then solidifying her experience in fundraising at Brooke and then charity: water UK. Camilla went to school at the French Lycee Charles de Gaulle in London and completed her degree in History of Art at Oxford Brookes University.
Main Duties
- Lead on the project management, design, content creation and publishing of communications for the Philanthropy team (including impact report and newsletters) and work with translators to ensure communications are produced in other key ClientEarth languages
- Lead on the development of bespoke reporting for six and seven figure restricted and unrestricted gifts to produce high-quality, compelling reports tailored in style and content to suit a range of audiences in different geographies
- Work closely with the Philanthropy team to ensure gold standard stewardship for ClientEarth’s philanthropy donors: driving creative, unique and inspiring ideas for tailored stewardship touchpoints throughout the year;
- Partner with the Design Manager to deliver visually compelling reports and original donor stewardship touchpoints tailored to the Philanthropy portfolio;

Meet your Manager
In this role you will be managed by Cheryl King-McDowall. Cheryl joined ClientEarth from the UK Cabinet Office, where she worked on Government Communication professional standards and major programmes including Covid Communications, UK GREAT Campaign, and the Leadership College for Government. On secondment from the Cabinet Office she led the creation of a new operating model for the House of Commons’ HR function. Prior to this, Cheryl has worked in and led HR, Policy, Communications and Operations, for over 30 years in a variety of organisations including Local Authorities, Charity, NGO, and Higher Education sectors. With a background in occupational and organisational psychology, she specialises in organisational development and effectiveness, change and business improvement.
Main Duties
- Serve as a key member of the People & Culture management team, contributing to strategic planning, operational delivery, and team development ensuring best practice and drive consistency across global teams.
- Provide expert advice to senior leaders and People & Culture colleagues on HR policy, organisational design, workforce planning, and change management.
- Provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, including handling complex and sensitive cases such as grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance issues.
- Work closely with legal advisors, managers, and Unions to ensure fair, transparent, and legally compliant outcomes.

Role requirements
- CIPD qualified (Assoc & above) or equivalent work experience (essential)
- Specialised training and /or experience in employment law, compensation, coaching and mentoring, organisation development, change management or employee relations (at least two) (essential)
- Strong understanding of HR systems, processes, and best practices (essential)
- Experience handling complex employee relations matters, including grievances and disciplinary actions (essential)
- Knowledge and experience in compensation, organisational planning, recruitment, organisation development, employee engagement and employee development (essential)

In this pivotal role, you’ll be the central source of safeguarding expertise - advising senior leaders, shaping strategy, and ensuring best practice is embedded throughout our services. You’ll lead on strategy, practice, training, data analysis, and multi-agency collaboration, all while promoting a culture of empowerment, co-production, and service user voice.
What we’re looking for:
• Extensive safeguarding experience with children and/or vulnerable adults
• A relevant health/social care qualification (e.g. Social Work Degree)
• Strategic thinker with strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills

You will be experienced in taking full senior-management level responsibility for charity finances. You will be supporting our Chief Executive in overseeing all financial activities for a charity with a turnover of £2 Million. Reporting regularly to the board of trustees, you will be experienced in working with a fundraiser and managing multiple grant incomes. Experience of working with local authorities is desirable. We are a small friendly and supportive team. We are offering a flexible/hybrid working arrangement.
