Worth Unlimited is a national children’s charity embedded in local communities, whose mission is to create spaces where young people are heard, are valued and can grow. We mentor and counsel young people one to one and in groups in schools and in the community. We run workshops and drop in sessions and carry out open access work within our local areas.
We are looking to recruit 4 trustees with any of the following skills: Finance/accounting, safeguarding, youthwork, leadership, people management, communications, marketing, fundraising, event planning. This role will involve approximately 5-6 hours per month.

What will you be doing?

Expectations of Trustees

- The Board of Trustees meets six times a year, a mix of virtual and in-person meetings.
- Trustees may be invited to attend Pony Club events such as the Championships, the Pony Club Conference, and Trustee away days.
- New Trustees will attend an induction at The Pony Club Office in Warwickshire and are expected to complete NCVO Charity Trustee Induction Training if new to the role of Trustee.
- The role is voluntary, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Award-winning theatre company One Tenth Human is seeking people with a passion for developing children’s STEM potential to join our Board of Trustees. Could you help us succeed with our next adventures?
One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We want to change this.
We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.
Written information is sent out a week before each meeting, requiring careful reading and consideration. Trustees may take on additional tasks suitable to their area of expertise between meetings, but the role is fundamentally one of governance and strategic guidance.
We are currently recruiting for Board members with the following skills:
(A) Financial Management Trustee. We are seeking a Board member who would be able to support our financial management, working with the Treasurer (and our accountant) to oversee financial planning, processes, and compliance. Your experience might be an accountancy qualification, experience with charity financial management, experience in business, or similar. Your role would include joining our Budget Working Group, which meets quarterly, one to two weeks before each Board meeting.
(B) Board Members. More broadly, we are keen to recruit Board members who have any one (or more!) of the following areas of expertise:

Crossness Pumping Station (overseen by the Crossness Engines Trust) is a unique and valuable museum of UK and world reknown telling the history of how the ambitious management of sewage transformed London as a city of growth and innovation in the 1860s and helped eradicate cholera. Preserved and restored by a group of enthusiasts since 1987, we are now entering a second phase of major restoration and we need visionary trustees who can help us achieve it.
This role is one of three we have created for experts in their field to help us implement a major programme over the next 5-10 years. It really is your chance to be part of our history!
As well as the usual trustee roles (outlined in the role description attached) the specific skills needed for this role include:
Role Objectives
- Acting as lead expert on the Board in relation to fundraising (eg grant funding, legacy funding, onsite donations, but not commercial trading/visitor charges).
- Advising on good practice and regulatory and policy issues in charity fundraising.
- Identifying future fundraising prospects and working with volunteers to achieve these.
Responsibilities
- Work with a volunteer lead/team on identifying future funding sources from grant-making bodies.
- Develop a fundraising strategy with volunteers.
- Develop corporate fundraising targets with other trustees.
- Investigate legacy fundraising and other visitor/member/donor opportunities.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- Proven success in heritage or similar charity fundraising.
- Good knowledge of the standards required by the Institute of Fundraising.
- Ability to develop fundraising skills in volunteers.
- Good knowledge of relevant stakeholders in the fundraising community.
- Excellent communication skills including with staff and volunteers as well as fellow trustees.
- An understanding of the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office 365.
- Commitment to attend board meetings regularly and volunteer for other sub-committees as appropriate.
- Able to devote around 2-3 hours per week on preparing for meetings.
- Treating colleagues with respect and politeness.
Desirable
- Experience in the charity sector.
- Experience as a volunteer in a similar organisation.
- Experience in Digital, Marketing and Finance would also be useful.

The Role:
We are currently seeking a Finance Trustee to join our Board as Treasurer. It’s a voluntary role that requires a committed individual with financial expertise to take a collaborative approach, supporting our Trustees, our Head of Finance and Governance, and our management team to oversee the financial affairs of our charity and ensure that they are legal, constitutional, and within accepted accounting practice.

Treasurer Role:
The primary role is to ensure alongside other Trustees that they accept ultimate responsibility for the affairs of G&C and ensure that it is solvent, well run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up. As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.
- Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements, as produced by the finance team or others where appropriate, to the Board of Trustees
- Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- Liaising with any paid staff about financial matters, as appropriate.
- Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
- Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
- Drawing any major financial concerns to the attention of the trustee and the management team.
- Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves in line with its reserves policy, and monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.
- Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy and that investments and assets are maximised.
- Leading on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating, and reporting corporate risk.
- Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies – for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- Supporting other Trustees in understanding the charity’s financial position and decision making.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the charity and its ethical fundraising policy.
- Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the Annual General Meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.
The Person We’re Looking For:
- A finance professional with a firm understanding of charity finance and some experience of fundraising and pension schemes.
- Knowledge of charity fundraising, bid writing, and/or other income generation and/or securing funding through creation or leveraging of partnerships and networks (at a national or local level).
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity and the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.
- Clear communicator with the ability to explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, and liaising with auditors.
In addition, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all Trustees.
Responsibilities of All Trustees:
- Demonstrating a commitment to G&C’s objectives
- Contributing to setting the strategic goals and monitoring performance by active participation in Board discussions and decision-making
- Actively assisting the charity to build their connections and partnerships for the purposes of most effectively delivering their goals and fundraising
- Ensuring that G&C complies with its governing documents, the law, and all other relevant documentation
- Helping to identify risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place
- Helping the Board to make sound decisions by making available their own personal knowledge and experience
- Assisting the Chair to appoint and appraise the performance of the Senior Leadership Team members
- Sharing relevant skills and expertise with the Senior Leadership Team members
- Making all reasonable efforts to attend Board meetings, away days, development meetings, publicity events, and other such public functions as requested by the Chair
- Ensuring the charity’s focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion remains at the heart of its strategy and delivery
Trustee Person Specification:
In addition to the Treasurer role specific above, our Trustees will ideally also demonstrate the following:
- A commitment to the objectives and activities of G&C
- A willingness to devote time and effort to G&C beyond attending board meetings
- Have strategic vision, an ability to think creatively, and an appropriate level of financial literacy
- Understanding of and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of their position

- Be willing to effectively act as part of a team

Our Charity was one of the first in the country to be set up specifically to support the needs of young carers. The Charity has been successfully running for 25 years and has an established Trustee board and strong staff team in place. As the Charity's Treasurer, you will help the organisation to maintain an overview of its' affairs, ensure its financial viability, and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. You will oversee and present budgets to the Board, make financial statements available, and ensure that the charity has appropriate management accounts and financial reports. As a good communicator, you will also help other Board members to understand the statements, so that trustees can make decisions that ensure the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.
