As Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, you will:

• Lead high-value fundraising across corporates, trusts, and major donors, ensuring income is maximised whether or not an appeal is live
• During appeals (typically one or two per year), deliver high-value income during national emergencies
• Oversee stewardship and account management of DEC’s partners, supporting managers to deliver exceptional relationships.

About you

The Cathedral and Church Buildings Department supports the care and sustainable development of the Church of England's 42 cathedrals and 16,000 church buildings, of which 12,500 are listed, to help fulfil the vision and strategy of the Church of England. It also supports dioceses with the disposal of church buildings no longer required for worship and finding them a new future. Through advice, guidance, advocacy and fundraising, we provide strategic support on conservation and caring for historic church buildings, making change to support worship and communities, and working towards Net Zero Carbon 2030. Members of the department engage with dioceses, parishes and cathedral teams, as well as nationally with government, agencies, charities, funders, General Synod and across the National Church Institutions to make the case for church buildings and their vital role in worship, community and our national life. Buildings Council is a statutory body responsible for advising Chancellors, dioceses and parishes on faculty applications.

The Church Buildings Officer will be responsible for the production of reports summarising the history and significance of church buildings and assessing the impact of proposed changes. You will also provide general guidance and advice at diocesan and local level.

About the role

Working Arrangements

We are recruiting two roles: one permanent and one 12-month fixed term contract.

The role

This maternity cover role is to deliver a programme of cultivation and stewardship events to engage new and existing major donors (individuals, trusts and corporates) and to contribute to the delivery of fundraising budgets by delivering events that enable a sector leading supporter experience.

The postholder line manages the special events coordinator and plays a key role in team culture, operational refinement, and cross-functional collaboration.

Our dynamic fundraising department generated £4.5m through donations in 2023/24, and we are now preparing for an ambitious multi-million-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the site of the Royal Free Hospital.

Responsible for attracting and retaining donors, and delivering an outstanding supporter experience, the fundraising department comprises two teams which work closely together to achieve our shared objectives:

· Our philanthropy & campaigns team builds relationships with individual philanthropists, trusts, foundations, corporate organisations and intermediaries, giving or facilitating donations of £10,000 or more to the charity each year. They lead major appeal activity for the charity, currently focused on our forthcoming cancer campaign, and special events to support these activities.

Key Requirements:

• Demonstrable experience and success as a Communications Manager with a focus on content creation, copywriting, digital marketing, and internal/external stakeholder communications
• Proven ability to craft compelling copy and adapt messaging to different platforms and audiences.
• Skilled in managing social media platforms with a particular focus on LinkedIn strategy, the creation of content in various formats, metrics analysis and management of growth and engagement strategies.

Role Overview:
The Talent Set are delighted to be partnering with a charity to recruit a Senior Legacy Marketing Manager for a 6-month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the development and delivery of a sector-leading Legacy and In Memory Giving programme during a key period of strategic growth.

Reporting to the Head of Individual Giving and Legacy Marketing, you will oversee the charity’s Legacy and In Memory marketing activity, delivering a best-in-class supporter experience and driving long-term income growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive Legacy Marketing Strategy, focused on increasing legacy intenders and pledgers.
• Lead the ongoing development of a stewardship and acquisition programme, ensuring engaging and insight-led supporter journeys.
• Shape and deliver a long-term In Memory Giving strategy, working collaboratively across internal teams and with external agencies.
• Manage a budget with oversight of expenditure and income targets.
• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of legacy and in-memory campaigns across multiple channels.
• Build and maintain relationships with creative, media, and Free Will scheme partners to ensure campaigns are effective, compliant, and on brand.
• Line manage a Legacy Manager, with indirect management of senior executives.

Person Specification:

• Substantial experience in legacy marketing or legacy fundraising, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
• A proven track record of developing and delivering multi-channel marketing campaigns.
• Strong strategic planning and budget management capabilities.
• Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience managing agencies and supplier contracts, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective delivery.
• Demonstrable understanding of data protection, fundraising regulation, and compliance.
• Strong leadership and line management experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

You'll bring:

-Some experience working on successful media campaigns and generating coverage, even better if you have experience in the charity sector

-A good understanding and willingness to learn more about working with people who have lived-experience (case studies) and an awareness of the associated trauma-informed, safeguarding, and GDPR requirements

To succeed you'll:

-Provide an effective and professional service to the media, responding to enquiries and providing information, as a core member of the media and PR team.

-Be the lead in maintaining and ensuring the communications grid is up to date and chasing contributions from the relevant leads.

-Develop good relationships with TCS colleagues across the organisation to devise media and communication strategies, and responses to major announcements and high-profile policy issues.

-Produce news releases and quotes, and brief/ advise our spokespeople. Ensure bold and powerful storytelling with compelling narrative across media content and campaigns.

-Elevate voices of lived-experience. Root messaging in our brand voice to deliver cut-through and raise brand profile. Make sure the people involved in our work feel safe and prepared, and capable of fulfilling the need.
