Quilombo UK is looking for a Researcher to join their national volunteering team working from home. Quilombo UK is a not-for-profit social enterprise that challenges people to think differently and bridge gaps between communities, with the aim of building a culturally rich society, where differences are accepted and celebrated. As chosen among 160 other organizations to work in collaboration with the Home Office on the “Building a Stronger Britain together” project, you will be joining a team, which not only supports the community but also stands up to extremism in all of its forms.

Responsibilities:

•  Research, collect and concise information, related to quilombo’s key objectives, in particular cultural and racial diversity, and stereotyping in uk communities.
• Use diverse sources of information, such as articles, journals, newspaper columns, local and global news stories, etc.
• Collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, exhibitions, workshops, and community events.
• Provide written reports when required.
• Contribute to staff meetings.

Skills and attributes:

•  Excellent written skills and ability to communicate ideas and concepts
• Ability to work with microsoft word is a must
•  Ability to work with excel is an advantage, although training will be provided if needed
•  Knowledge of the process of research and different alternative methods, techniques and data sources
• Demonstrate awareness of the ethical guidelines appropriate for the conducted research

By joining Quilombo UK you will be supported and guided by experienced staff and volunteers, who are willing to share their skill set and will provide you with great opportunities for development in many different areas.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.

Why am I needed?

Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference.

As a Young Volunteer, you will gain invaluable real-life experience in the charity and retail sector whilst making a positive difference to those affected by cancer. Volunteer work is a great way to boost your CV, helps on University, College or Sixth form applications or to simply lift your confidence and gain new skills!

There are lots of different roles to choose from. If you wanted to gain hands on customer service skills, or if you have a particular interest in Books, or Media etc, we have something to suit every interest in our Charity Shops.

We are now taking on anyone aged 16 and over and 14 and over if you are part of Duke of Edinburgh or Welsh Baccalaureate.

What will I be doing?

Activities will be largely determined by the type of volunteering you would like to undertake, some examples are:

Interacting with shop customers, making them feel welcome and answering queries

Sorting and displaying donations alongside our Retail Assistants

Working alongside our Upcycle Creators to transform donated clothes and accessories into unique and special pieces

Assisting our Visual Merchandisers to create engaging shop window displays

What skills do I need?

As a Young Volunteer, no prior experience or skills are required!

We simply ask that you:

How much time do I need to commit?

We will do our best to work around any commitments you have, like school, part time jobs or hobbies. We offer long-term placements or one-off work experiences; please specify your availability and how many hours you would like to offer in either you’re application form or an email.

We are a friendly bunch at Tenovus Cancer Care and you will be supported by our Volunteer Development Team, Shop/Workplace Managers and our wonderful Volunteers.

TASKS

To welcome, assist and serve our customers in a warm and friendly way providing a good standard of customer service. To ensure Gift Aid is explained clearly and promoted to all our donors and thanking them for their valuable contribution. To promote public understanding of our work and the importance of raising funds, promoting Hospice events and activities to the public. Help sort, steam, hang and display our donated stock and rotate the stock following the manager's guidelines. Dealing with customer purchases, confidently process the cash handling and accurate operation of the till.

SKILLS & QUALITIES

 Be a Honest, trustworthy and respectful with an enthusiastic positive attitude. Have good communication and numeracy skills. to be a reliable, commited, dependable and flexible. Able to work as part of a team as well as under your own initiative.

A crucial volunteer role at the centre, volunteer Reception Helpers help out at least one morning per week to warmly welcome members to the centre, help with queries (in person, by email and over the phone) and direct people to our various activities. This is an active and varied way to volunteer where no two days are the same!

Qualities you need for this role

• Confidence and communication skills in person and over the phone
• Reliable, dependable and a good sense of humour
• Flexibility, happy to support staff as needed

When you'll be needed

Europia is a community development organisation established in 2008. Our friendly multi-lingual team are committed to supporting and empowering Eastern European nationals in Greater Manchester. We also work with regional and national partners and in doing this, we have national recognition.

Europia is seeking a dedicated volunteer to provide support to the CEO in administrative duties, calendar management and strategic policy implementation. 

Role Overview: As a Volunteer Executive Assistant with a focus on CEO Calendar Management at Europia, you will take on a pivotal role in supporting the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) by efficiently managing their calendar and ensuring smooth coordination of their daily schedule.  This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, boost your CV, and advance your career by facilitating the CEO's productivity and enabling them to focus on strategic priorities to further Europia's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Calendar Management: Take ownership of the CEO's Google Calendar, scheduling appointments, meetings, and events in a manner that optimizes their time and aligns with their priorities.

What is the purpose of this role?

Supporting staff to manage the stockroom at the shop in Sutton in Ashfield and the Ransom Wood storage unit. On an occasional basis, to help with collections and deliveries, and transfer of stock between our shops in Sutton in Ashfield and West Bridgford.

What impact does this role have?

This role helps the shop to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.

What activities might you be involved in?

• Supporting staff to manage the stock room within the Sutton shop – keeping racking clean and tidy, organising space to maintain good health and safety systems.
• Accepting donations from supporters that visit the shop and encouraging those who are taxpayers to sign up to Gift Aid to increase the value of the donation when sold by 25%.
• Processing items at Ransom Wood storage unit when there is no room to deposit them straight into the shop.
• Travelling with the driver to pick up donated items (furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, or a mix of all 4)
• Completing deliveries with the driver to customers’ homes
• Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct

What are we looking for?

• The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks
• A willingness to complete a variety of tasks both in the shop and at the Ransom Wood storage unit.
• An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service

• Desirable:

• The ability to drive the van if needed (Luton van or equivalent) will be advantageous.
• Own transport to get to Ransom Wood storage unit (public transport is available but takes a long time

For insurance purposes, volunteer drivers are required to be over 21 and under 75

When would you be needed to volunteer?

We are looking for individuals who can volunteer either every Wednesday and/or Saturday between 9.30am and 4.30pm

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough induction.

Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. 

To enable us to reach more people who would benefit from our support we need help to;

• Raise awareness and knowledge of the Helper service
• Ensure that people who are referred to the Helper service are appropriately assessed
• Increase our number of trained Helper volunteers and ensure they are well supported in their role.
• Demonstrate Marie Curie values; always compassionate, making things happen, leading in our field, people at our heart
• Support volunteers in training, offering 1:1 support and facilitating peer support groups 
• Organise social events and engagement activities for volunteers 
• Provide cover for Helper volunteers, offering companionship and emotional support, practical support and short breaks for carers

With support from their Volunteer Coordinator a Lead Volunteer will play an important part in supporting the Helper service to reach more people within their own local community.

Your role will mainly be based in your local community and may include some of, but is not restricted to, the following typical tasks:

• Assess terminally ill people and/or their carers either in their own home, nursing or residential care to identify their needs and determine if the Marie Curie Helper service would be appropriate for them. 
• Provide cover for Helper volunteers, offering companionship and emotional support, practical support and short breaks for carers.  You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement.  This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
• Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (eg to chemotherapy appointments or day therapy at the hospice)
• Follow all mandatory procedures that form part of the Helper service. 
• Provide cover as a lone worker Buddy to support Helper volunteers, as needed
• Keeping up to date with Helper service guidance and best practice 
• Liaising with existing and potential referrers to the Helper service
• Liaising with clients and their families via telephone
• Promoting the Helper volunteer role including (with training/approval) media activity 
• Helping with the recruitment of new volunteers, including interviews and selection 
• Keeping accurate records
• Liaising regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator and other team members
• Reporting concerns and celebrating compliments and successes 
• Assisting with evaluations and development of the Helper service
• Help with other related tasks when necessary

Action for Refugees in Lewisham works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in Lewisham. At the Rainbow Club supplementary school we aim to help children between the ages of 4 and 11 to improve their literacy, numeracy and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment.  We need your skills and enthusiasm to assist the teacher in the delivery of a literacy and numeracy class and work with other volunteers to develop a programme of recreational activities. The Rainbow Club runs on Saturday mornings during term-time.

Your duties will include:

• Arriving punctually for the 9am briefing by the Rainbow Club Headteacher;
• Working in a team with other volunteers and teachers to deliver literacy, numeracy, arts, sport activities – this includes ensuring children remain engaged throughout the lesson and carry out set tasks as instructed by the teacher;
• Working one-to-one with specific children if and when required;
• Filing classroom work and homework in children’s individual files and keeping all materials and resources tidy and properly stored;
• Liaising with parents as and when required for example distributing leaflets and news about future meetings and events and also assisting with parents' day;
• Following the teacher’s policies on discipline and classroom management;
• Supervising the children during break times;
• Supporting the children during class trips;
• Ensuring classrooms are clean and tidy at the end of each day – this may include being part of a regular team rota;
• Providing feedback and comments to the volunteer coordinator and Rainbow Club manager when required.
