Play Volunteer - Partners in Learning Programme (Harlesden)

Cities for Children’s Partners in Learning programme is a primary school-based initiative that uses a child-to-child model to support younger children through playful, experiential learning. Older pupils (Big Partners) lead structured play and learning activities for younger pupils (Little Partners), with a strong focus on socio-emotional learning, confidence-building, and positive relationships. The programme takes place in a primary school in Harlesden and includes creative play, science experiments, sensory exploration, and emotional learning activities aligned with the Early Years and KS1 curriculum. 

Commitment: 2 hours per week (once a week) during the school day.

Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed. 

Role Purpose

Play Volunteers support weekly sessions alongside Cities for Children staff, school staff and pupil mentors. The role involves supporting structured play activities, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment, and reinforcing positive behaviour and engagement. 

Key Responsibilities

• Support weekly sessions in a primary school setting

• Work with small groups of younger children during play-based activities

• Support older pupils as they lead activities

• Encourage cooperation, turn-taking, and positive interaction 

• Assist with creative and exploratory learning activities

• Help set up and tidy materials

Amy’s Place is a partnership between the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Clarion Housing, providing supported living accommodation for young women aged 18-30 in recovery from drugs, alcohol and other addictive behaviors.

As a great communicator with ‘green fingers’ you will create a calm, nurturing environment in which to support the residents to gain gardening skills and to explore the possibility of growing their own food. 

Activities

Inspire the residents to take an interest in the outdoor space at Amy’s Place and involve them in the development of a regular gardening and/or food growing club.

Help residents to develop their gardening skills and knowledge specific to growing food, through group workshops and individually tailored support, guidance and encouragement.

Commitment 

This is a flexible opportunity and volunteering times and frequency will vary depending on the volunteer’s availability and the needs of the residents. It might be every week or fortnight ideally for a minimum of 3 months.

This role will require us to carry out an enhanced check through the disclosure and barring service.

Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Hospital Visitor Volunteer 

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

• hold drop-in sessions
• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
• share information
• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

​All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

The Sign Language Officer oversees the teachers in running the BSL and Makaton teaching sessions once a week, ensuring volunteers engage in the sessions and thus utilise their skills at events. About the Charity

From Me to You is an inspiring charity dedicated to alleviating loneliness and isolation for people living with cancer. We make connections for people living with cancer through the simple, powerful act of letter writing easing loneliness and bringing comfort, hope and human connection, one letter at a time. Recent feedback showed that 93% of our letter recipients reported the letters lifted their mood and a quarter said that they made them feel less alone. Each year thousands of anonymous letters are collated by our team of volunteers and then given to patients at home, in hospitals or cancer centres by nurses and our charity partners, with 80% of recipients saying that our letters made them feel cared for. Our work is powered by a passionate community of volunteers, in 2025 with their help we processed over 17,000 letters from all over the world, delivering them to cancer patients throughout the UK. 

Our Donate a Letter programme supports our 2,500+ volunteer letter writers to contribute anonymous letters, some people write a couple of letters a year, others one a week. These letters are all delivered to our PO Box in Ascot. They are then sorted, read and processed by our wonderful team of local Donate a Letter volunteers which this role would be a part of. These volunteers also then repackaged and redistributed the suitable letters to cancer patients through our partnership with hospitals, cancer centres and other charities that act as distribution partners. 

About the Role

We are looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to support our Donate a Letter programme by undertaking the letter reading, processing and packaging tasks from the comfort of their own home.

This role can involve collecting the letters from our PO Box, reviewing donated letters to ensure they meet our content guidelines and packaging up the letters ready to be sent to individuals living with cancer in their home or through our outlet partners. 

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver safe, thoughtful and uplifting correspondence so this is a vital role to the charity but it can be very flexible so can suit volunteers needs and time allowance. Volunteers for this role are all based within the area local to the PO box so there is opportunity to undertake this volunteering with others but there is no requirement to do this. You will receive all the training you need to confidently fulfil this role, training would be in person or online with our Founder Alison and would include reading letters together to identify content issues and will be supplemented with written resources including a fact sheet on the do’s and don’ts of what letters can contain.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect letters from the PO Box and disseminate to the volunteers for processing 

• Read donated letters to ensure content is appropriate and in line with charity guidelines

• Flag any letters that require further review or that are not suitable for distribution

• Prepare and package approved letters for distribution

• Handle all materials with care and confidentiality

• Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator as required 

• There is no minimum time requirement, though consistency is appreciated

There is opportunity for volunteers to undertake one element of this process or undertake it end to end, this will depend on the number of active volunteers we have and how much time each volunteer is able to commit. We believe in this role being fully flexible so we can discuss what set up might be suitable in our introduction meetings to ensure we can meet your needs.

How to Apply
To process your application, we will hold an initial 30 minute introduction call with you to go through the opportunity in more detail, ensure we are a right fit for each other and answer any questions you might have. You will then need to complete a short Volunteer Registration Form so we can ensure we have all your details. We will then arrange some training to support you in delivering the role and if needed introduce you to other volunteers doing the role so you will have some peer support. Then once you are onboarded the Volunteer Coordinator will be your day to day point of contact. 

We are looking for horse-experienced volunteers and/or volunteers with experience working with people with disabilities to help support our RDA participants during their weekday riding as therapy sessions.

Horse-based roles would include:

1) Support catching and bringing horses in from field or stable.

2)Helping groom and tack up

3)Leading horses (if experienced with horses or have completed internal training) 

4)Side-helping - Walking alongside the participant on the ride to support them emotionally and help pass on instructions given by the Coach

Other roles would include:

1)Meets and greets with participants and parents and/or carers as they arrive for activities

2)Setting up the school before sessions and helping break down the school after sessions

3)Completing registers and helping with rotas

There are also opportunities for volunteers to undertake further training towards becoming a registered RDA Instructor. Our sessions are run entirely by volunteers. We are looking for positive, friendly and forward thinking individuals to join us!

Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.

Volunteers will be supporting people in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.

The companion service volunteer can choose to be:                                                           

• A companion within the person’s home

• A companion outside the person’s home

Examples of the type of support the service offers include:

• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.

A charity  based in  Croydon, Surrey, London, UK is looking for volunteer Charity Team Assistants; to volunteer 30 unpaid hours per week. The Charity serves a multi ethnic community especially people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds. 

Responsibilities:

• To assist GNDFuk's permanent instructors in finding and providing creative forms of engagement for both our youth and adult programmes.
• To assist in project and schedule planning including setting and clearing up 30 minutes before and after projects and events
• To assist in ensuring that activities are executed safely
• To assist in coordinating events and activities to encourage the objectives of GNDFuk

Person Specification:

• Someone enthusiastic and creative who is committed to working towards the achievements of the charities objectives.
• Knowledege of Black and ethnic minority tradition/culture is preferable however not essential.
