Role Summary

As a Teaching Quality Assessor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality Islamic essentials education across universities in the UK. This volunteer will assess the teaching quality of Roots Essentials courses, providing feedback and recommendations to support continuous improvement. The role supports the team’s goal of maintaining high educational standards and providing an enriching learning experience for university students.

Key tasks

▪ Observation and Assessment: Observe classes (in-person or virtually) and assess the teaching quality, content delivery, and student engagement based on established criteria.

▪ Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching methods, course materials, and assessments used in delivering the Roots Essentials Curriculum.

▪ Feedback and Reporting: Provide constructive feedback to instructors on teaching quality and suggest areas for improvement.

▪ Quality Assurance: Ensure that the curriculum is being delivered in a manner that aligns with the programme’s educational objectives and Islamic principles.

▪ Collaboration: Work closely with the Education Vice-Lead and Academic team to support the professional development of instructors.

▪ Documentation: Prepare reports summarizing observations, evaluations, and recommendations for enhancing the educational experience.

▪ Training Contribution: Contribute to the development and delivery of training materials or workshops for instructors to improve teaching practices.

▪ A background in Islamic studies, education, or a related field, with a good understanding of foundational Islamic knowledge.

▪ Previous experience in teaching, assessing, or quality assurance in an educational setting, preferably within Islamic education.

Volunteer Role: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Strategy Design

We are Bees Abroad, working to enable communities to empower themselves through sustainable beekeeping. Together with local beekeeper trainers and organisations we educate, guide, and mentor communities in local best practices in Beekeeping, business creation, and protecting the environment. 

We are a majority volunteer organisation, with projects led entirely by volunteers working in partnership with our in-country training teams, while still in close collaboration with the core team and Board of Trustees. Whilst we are a small charity, we drive a lot of impact and have great ambition. 

We are looking for a volunteer to help us strengthen how we measure and evaluate our impact so that we can drive better and wider impact still. This individual will be reporting to our CEO and a member of the Board of Trustees. 

The goal of the project is to deliver a revised Measurement and Evaluation Strategy and put in place the foundations for a more efficient and consistent MEL process. We expect a commitment of 4 hours per week, with room for more, should the individual wish to do so. 
 
The role will involve: 

• Gathering information from our project teams to understand current monitoring and data/information collection practices across the various countries and projects. 

• Working with the CEO, a member of the Board of Trustees, and select country leads to design a monitoring and evaluation strategy that provides consistency across projects while allowing flexibility for context-specific approaches.

• This strategy document will also become publicly available to corporate and grant donors. 

• Designing and piloting simple, effective monitoring and evaluation processes and tools that can be used both where technology is available and in low-tech settings.

• Supporting any trainings of local teams in the new tools and processes 

• Exploring opportunities to use automation and digital tools, including AI, to streamline reporting where possible. 

• Bi-weekly meetings with CEO and Trustee

 You will ideally have... 

• Experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) in community development or similar fields. This includes: 

• Designing and implementing frameworks to measure project outcomes and impact. 

• Collecting, analysing, and reporting data from community-based projects. 

• Developing indicators and tools to track progress and learning. 

• Facilitating feedback loops to inform decision-making and improve project delivery. 

• Ability to design practical, user-friendly MEL processes and tools that can be adapted and implemented in a variety of settings

• Comfortable working with both digital and offline MEL methods. 

• Strong communication skills to collaborate with our international project team, with an ability to adapt language and communication approaches to different personalities and local area contexts

You don’t need to be a parent or have any specific skills to become a governor as long as you’re over 18 and happy to have a DBS check, you can apply! Professional skills such as HR, finance, law or project management are useful but governing boards are often needing softer skills such as leadership, communication and problem solving alongside a fresh perspective and lived experience within their communities. As a governor, you’ll be supported by the Chair, head teacher and the rest of the governing team.

Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.

YOUR COMMITMENT

Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one - two hours per month.

Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

About the Role

As an Ecommerce Cleaner Volunteer, you’ll play a key part in helping us maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our team. Your contribution will help ensure our ecommerce operations run smoothly and our donated goods are processed in a hygienic and organised space.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your typical tasks may include:

Connection Support has a range of services providing support to people at risk of homelessness or on the edge of needing social care. We work with people made vulnerable through debt, mental health issues, substance misuse, learning disability, and physical disabilities.

Volunteers play a key role in the provision of vital services to our clients.

Are you a reliable handyperson who can undertake, upkeep, and repair a range of tasks for our housing support clients?

• Do you have 1-2 hours a week to make basic home improvements to client’s accommodation?

Description

You'll be raising awareness, & improving understanding of sight loss through delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions in your local community. Through these engaging sessions, you'll inspire participants to make small changes to their behaviour that make a massive difference in the day-to-day lives of people with sight loss. As a Community Change Champion, this will involve:

• Talking directly with community leaders, businesses, & local groups about ways they can get involved & inviting them to join an Awareness to Action session.
• Delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions either in person or online, using our resources. You may do this on your own or with a team of other local volunteers, both sighted and with sight loss.
• Sharing RNIB’s information & initiatives so people know we’re here for them.
• If you have a personal link to sight loss, sharing your experience during the session to help give a tangible example of how local people can make a real difference.
• Telling us about any activities you have engaged in via a Microsoft form.

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation

As Treasurer, you will work alongside our Finance Manager, the finance sub-committee and our trustee board to oversee the financial strategy and risk management processes of our organisation, to ensure its financial viability and legal compliance. To apply, you must have some financial qualifications (or relevant experience) and have some knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes.

Working with the Finance Manager, finance sub-committee (including the CEO) and trustee board, the Treasurer will oversee the financial strategy and risk management processes of the organisation, to ensure its financial viability and legal compliance.
