Job Description
The Chair provides strategic leadership to the charity and the Board of Trustees, ensuring it is well-governed, financially sound, and delivering on its aims. The Chair also line-manages, supports, and holds the Director to account.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Leadership

Tenure, Time Commitment and Process
The Chair and trustees are appointed for a four-year term, renewable for a further four years. The Chair contributes an average of 1 to 2 days per month.
The Board meets 4–5 times a year for two hours (typically outside standard working hours), with two meetings held in person. We streamline procedural matters to ensure meetings focus on key strategic issues.

Commitment
Trustees are expected to commit 4-8 hours of work during each month to complete any

Clergy Support Trust is the largest and oldest charity helping Anglican clergy and their families.
Founded in 1655 and with assets of over £110m, the charity provides financial grants, services and resources for serving and retired ministers, ordinands, and clergy families.
We are looking to appoint two outstanding new Trustees, to join the Board and the charity at this exciting moment. Specifically, we are eager to hear from candidates with experience of at least one, ideally more, of the following areas:
- Ordained ministry in the Church of England (for example, as a parish priest,
- chaplain, Area Dean, or Archdeacon);
- Communications and digital media (especially within the charity sector);
- Fundraising and supporter engagement;
- Personal experience of the Trust’s grants, services and resources (for example, as

Increasingly, the Trust also advocates for clergy, as well as acting to support them, which recently contributed to a 10.7% rise in the basic clergy stipend across England. In 2026, we published a new three-year strategy focussed on “going upstream” – understanding better the root causes of challenges facing clergy, supporting those in new ways and offering a broader programme to empower clergy, while focussing our grants on those in the greatest need.
Although the charity’s excellent relationships with the Church of England and other Anglican Provinces are important, the Trust is proudly independent, and offers a confidential service to those seeking its help.
The Board of Trustees – referred to in our Royal Charter as the Court of Assistants - is responsible for setting the charity’s strategy and vision, for overseeing the work of its Chief Executive, and for scrutinising performance. There is an occupational requirement for Trustees to be supportive of the Trust’s Anglican ethos and identity (but not to be practising Anglicans).
The charity’s operations, profile and programme have grown significantly in recent years, and a key element of the Court’s role is to support, challenge and affirm the work of the charity’s executive leadership team. Trustee's main takes and accountabilities include:

- Monitoring performance

- Guardians of the charity’s assets
- Promotion of the charity and engagement with stakeholders
We hope for candidates who bring some experience and understanding of the charity sector, as well as a genuine and active passion for the important work which the Trust does. Strong candidates will have an ability to think strategically about the current and future needs of our applicants, and how best to meet those in a challenging and changing climate. They will understand and represent the Nolan Principles of public life, and the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of charity trusteeship. The Court takes seriously and wishes to reflect the glorious diversity of God’s Church,
and would particularly welcome applications at this time from women, those who identify as of Global Majority Heritage, and people living with disabilities.
The Court meets four times per year; in-person attendance is expected at those meetings (usually in central London), as well as for an annual twenty-four-hour awayday, normally in February. All Trustees are asked to serve on two of the five sub-committees, which meet four times a year, where online attendance is usual (though in-person attendance welcomed). Trustees are encouraged (but not required) to be present at our annual Festival in St Paul’s Cathedral each May.

to replace the current position holder who is retiring from the role. This role is a key member of

We are the Lincs Mid, NE and Lincoln Branch of the RSPCA. Role: Finance & Investment Committee Member
Location: London/remote
The Royal College of Pharmacy’s Finance & Investment Committee (FIC) is a key advisory body established by the College’s Board of Trustees to provide independent oversight of financial performance, investment strategy, and long-term financial sustainability.
While the day-to-day financial management of the College is delegated to the Chief Executive and Director of Finance, the FIC plays a critical role in supporting the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its governance responsibilities. Trustee Responsibilities :
The Board as a whole is collectively responsible for the success of the charity. A Trustee is a Board Member and has a number of responsibilities in order to ensure robust management of the charity including:
- Make decisions objectively in the interests of the charity.
- Implement Hopian’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
- Lead on the aims and objectives of Hopian by raising awareness of domestic and sexual abuse, and child sexual exploitation and abuse and its impact on individuals and their families.
Trustee Duties :
- Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
- Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (i.e. constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources in pursuance of its charitable objects (i.e., the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects) .
- Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
- Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
- Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
- To work in the interests of the charity and not for personal gain.
- To ensure that the Board Members takes proper professional advice on matters in which it does not have competence.
- Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the chief executive.
In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Tasks:
- To work with other Board Members to form an effective governing body for the charity.
- To attend meetings and to read papers in advance of meetings.
- Ensure that the charity’s focus places services users centrally.
- To understand and be committed to the mission of the charity.
- To maintain a long-term overview of the charity and its work.
- To make strategic and major decisions about the charity objectives, policies and procedures.
- To attend sub-group meetings as appropriate.
- To participate in other tasks that may arise from time to time such as interviewing for new staff, helping with appeals and fundraising.
- To keep informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues which affect its work.
- To monitor and evaluate the work of the charity on a regular basis. This includes receiving reports from staff, staff supervision, receiving feedback from service users and other agencies .
- To ensure that the charity is a good employer of its paid and voluntary staff .
- Provide opportunity for staff to meet with the board.
Person Specification
We are looking for a Trustee who has an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship. It is expected that a Trustee takes ownership to develop and maintain this understanding and application of duties. In addition to having:

The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust (JSAWT) is seeking new Trustees to join its dedicated and collaborative Board.
What we do:
JSAWT supports UK-registered charities that rescue, rehabilitate, release, and rehome animals by providing vital grant funding.
We focus on smaller organisations—where our support can make a real difference—helping transform the lives of animals and the people who care for them. From volunteer-led hedgehog rescues to international wildlife conservation initiatives, our work spans a diverse and inspiring range of causes.
Applications are reviewed three times a year by the Board of Trustees. Awards are given on a case-by-case basis to charities that meet our criteria and clearly demonstrate how the funding will benefit animals in their care.

- IT and cybersecurity, especially for a small non-profit organisation.
- Legal aspects of charity management and compliance.
- Communications and marketing, ideally for a small non-profit organisation.
Previous Trustee experience is not essential – we welcome applications from people new to charity governance. Full induction and support will be provided.
Potential Trustees must be able to commit to reviewing documents and applications in advance of meetings and be able to communicate their decisions.
The Board is friendly and inclusive and welcomes discussion and expression of opinions in a respectful and supportive environment.
Terms:
- Three Board meetings are held in March, July/August, and November. The meetings are held at the London office. They are usually in the afternoon and can last 4-5 hours.
- Attendance in person is encouraged; however, Trustees may attend virtually if this is preferable.
- The office has step free access and is all on one level.
- There may be occasional sub-committee meetings or events (virtual or in person).
- Reasonable expenses incurred by attending meetings (or other agreed work) may be reimbursed: for example, travel, subsistence, and childcare.
- The initial term is three years, with the option of renewal for a further three years.
