Hodan  is a small but long-established voluntary organisation in North Kensington, focusing on advice, support and wellbeing for the Somali community and other racially minoritised groups in West London. It is a registered charity operated as a company limited by guarantee.

We are looking for two new Trustees who can help us increase our reach, attract new funding, and continue to develop our services. We are particularly keen to recruit members of the local community in West London who have one or more of the following:

· Lived experience of issues faced by our service users, e.g., economic disadvantage, unemployment or unstable employment, migration, racism / discrimination, digital exclusion, and/or social isolation

· Experience in marketing, PR, or event management

· Experience in fundraising, especially non-grant approaches (e.g., corporate social responsibility, individual philanthropy, or building a supporter base)

· Experience of working with children and young people from racially minoritised backgrounds and/or in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

· Experience in charity leadership and governance

Board meetings are held every three months at Canalside House, Ladbroke Grove. The Board is responsible for setting the strategy and policies of Hodan, and guides and supports the Executive Director and staff.

We’re looking for one Support Group Volunteer over the age of 18 years old, based at St. Marys (Eltham) Community Complex Association, 180 Eltham High Street, London, SE9 1BJ.

You’ll be volunteering every Thursday between 10:30am and 12:30pm.

As a support group volunteer, you will help with the running of the group. The role is designed to suit the needs of the group, and the skills of people offering support. If you enjoy getting to know your community, working with others and making a real difference then this is the role for you.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Legal Trustee

LOCATION: Remote / 78 Coombe Road, New Malden, KT3 4QS

We usually hold board meetings online, but this is open to change.

COMMITMENT: 2 – 3 hours per month. We hold one annual away day we’d expect the board to attend.

Our Board meets every quarter for 2 hours. There is expected support between meetings. Our terms are capped at 3 years with potential for renewal for one additional term.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contribute to good governance and strategic decision-making, ensuring the Board fulfils its responsibilities in line with our constitution, governance framework, and applicable legislation.

• Provide legal insight and oversight on regulatory compliance, risk, and organisational development, ensuring alignment with relevant legal frameworks

• Support the Board in maintaining high standards of governance, accountability, and transparency

• Use your networks and influence to promote the charity’s mission, acting as an ambassador to build relationships with donors, partners, and advocates.

• Work collaboratively with fellow trustees and the Chair to maintain a supportive, ambitious, and effective governance environment.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Demonstrable experience in a legal role (e.g. solicitor, barrister, in-house counsel).

• Understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to charities

• Interpersonal and relationship-building skills and comfortable in an ambassadorial role.

• Demonstrable communication and teamwork skills with proven ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.

• Able to make difficult evidence-based decisions, negotiate challenging conversations, and be able to balance competing interests

• Experience working or volunteering in diverse and cross-cultural environments.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience of charity law, regulatory compliance, or governance

• Lived experience of migration or of a refugee background is highly desirable.

• Korean speaker

• Be actively engaged in refugee and migrant rights, social change, and/or a related field

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Due to the nature of CNK’s work with people in vulnerable circumstances, including at times children, a DBS or criminal record check is required for this role, although a criminal record is not necessarily a barrier to working at CNK. 

• Candidates are required to commit a minimum of 2-3 hours per month to this role for at least one term of three years. 

• Charity trustee positions are unpaid voluntary roles. Any reasonable expenses will be reimbursed inline with CNK’s expenses policy.

A women led grassroots charity in southern India is seeking a volunteer accountant to strengthen accounting systems, reporting, budgeting and finance team confidence.

The organisation works with women, children and marginalised communities through programmes focused on empowerment, health advocacy, childcare, education and residential care for children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Much of the organisation’s accounting remains manual and paper based, and financial reports are generally prepared only when requested by donors.

The volunteer will review current finance processes, assess use of accounting software, support budgeting and cashflow tools, introduce simple monthly management accounts, improve donor reporting and provide mentoring to the local finance team.

This would suit a supportive, hands on volunteer who enjoys working closely with smaller grassroots organisations.

Partnerships & Referral Lead — Living With Hope CIC

Living With Hope CIC is seeking a strong Partnerships & Referral Lead to help build meaningful relationships with charities, funders, community organisations, referral partners and aligned service providers.

We provide safe accommodation and structured support for individuals escaping or recovering from domestic abuse. Our mission is to restore stability, dignity and opportunity.

This is not a passive advisory role.

We are looking for someone who can help identify, build and strengthen partnerships that lead to referrals, funding opportunities, service collaboration and long-term organisational growth.

The role will involve:

• Identifying charities, community organisations and referral partners aligned with our mission
• Helping build relationships with domestic abuse services, faith groups, funders and support organisations
• Supporting referral pathway development and partnership conversations
• Helping create partnership packs, outreach messages and collaboration proposals
• Supporting introductions to relevant organisations and stakeholders
• Helping identify grant, sponsorship and funding opportunities
• Ensuring partnership activity leads to measurable outcomes such as referrals, funding, credibility or service growth
• Strengthening the organisation’s reputation within the voluntary, community and social impact sector

We are especially interested in someone with experience in one or more of the following areas:

The treasurer carries out Hidayah’s financial responsibilities, files reports, and presents regularly to the Board of Trustees. 

What do we specifically expect of this role?

• To take accountability for the bank account and to be an authorised signatory.

• To present financial updates at Trustee meetings and to devolve budgets where necessary.

• To ensure adherence to budgets.

• To present a predicted target and actual budget for the year.

• To work with the chair to give breakdowns of costings for fundraising bids and for events/activities/paid members of staff.

• To create the annual year-end financial report for the Charity Commission.

• To seek out revenue opportunities within the limits of Hidayah’s activities.

• To document how restricted and unrestricted funds are spent, including reports for grant funders.

• To approach organisations for donations and sponsorship opportunities.

• To increase revenue through public donations (online and actual) and to be proactive in doing this.

• To work with other Trustees to plan income-generating activities.

How much commitment is required?

This role requires a minimum commitment of 4–5 hours per week, with additional time required during busy periods or organisational activities. The following commitments are in place for all Hidayah Trustees:

• To be able to attend all Trustee meetings.

• To deliver a comprehensive report at each Board meeting with updates, completing actions in time;

• To aim to attend all other meetings as necessary, including the annual Strategy Day, annual General Meeting and (where geography permits) Hidayah events.

• To help to fundraise for and advertise any Hidayah events and fundraising drives.

• To be part of a communications group (via Discord) to keep up to date with Hidayah developments.

• To contribute to and to maintain the administration of our file-sharing system, Google Drive, so it is always up-to-date with clear records, templates, and forms.

• To check emails and to respond when needed.

• Line managing the finance assistant, including regular 121 meetings.

• Enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility, and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision, and mission of Hidayah.

• To contribute to the Charity Commission's annual report once a year.

• The role is subject to a 6-month probationary period.

• To read new Hidayah policies and initiatives.

• To read, understand, and agree with the constitution of Hidayah (available on the website).

What do we expect from a treasurer?

Please note that you must agree with and fit the essential criteria below to be eligible to volunteer in this role:

Knowledge & Experience:

• Educated to degree level or has experience which demonstrates equivalent analytical ability.

• Knowledge of quality assurance systems and their benefits for the voluntary sector.

• Knowledge of good governance procedures for the voluntary sector.

• Experience of budget management, preferably in the charity sector, but applicable to other sectors.

• High level of numeracy and close attention to detail.

• Basic AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) experience is desirable but not essential.

Skills & Attributes

• Ability or willingness to learn line managing, developing, coaching, and motivating volunteers.

• Working and influencing at both a strategic and operational level, ensuring excellent working relationships with trustees and volunteers.

• A self-starter who can maintain their workload with minimal supervision.
