Why we want you

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.

What you will be doing

• Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
• Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.
• Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
• SSAFA Storytellers -Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
• Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

The skills you need

• Be friendly and approachable.
• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
• Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

Ygam is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to empowering children and young people to lead safer digital lives, with a particular focus on preventing gaming and gambling harms

As part of our commitment to reaching underserved and underrepresented communities, we are expanding our Community & Faith Leaders Advisory Panel and are looking for individuals working or volunteering within community and faith settings who can bring valuable insight, lived experience, and community knowledge to help guide our work.

The panel allows Ygam to:

·Draw on the panels expertise and understanding of local communities, faith perspectives, and young people’s experiences

·Refine our training and resources for families and professionals to make our education more accessible, relevant, and culturally informed 

·Ensure our work reflects the realities young people face, both online and offline

Looking forwards, the panel will play an increasingly important role in Ygams work, supporting the research and insight programme to better understand how different communities experience gambling harms with an initial focus on exploring this through the lens of intersectionality.

Remuneration: £40.00 per hour

We’re looking for friendly, community minded volunteers to help make sure people across our area can easily find information about Dorothy House. By placing leaflets, posters and resources in the right places, you’ll help more people learn about the care and support we offer. You can also help by attending events such as local fairs, markets, small gatherings and networking meetings. You’ll be part of the team that brings our message directly to the public.

This role is incredibly valuable — every leaflet placed in the right spot helps someone feel more informed, supported, or connected.

Your friendly presence helps people learn about our work, ask questions, and feel connected to the care we provide. It’s a simple but powerful way to support fundraising and raise awareness across our community.

What you will be doing

• Distributing Dorothy House leaflets and posters in local shops, cafés, community venues and NHS settings
• Keeping an eye out for new places where information could be displayed and letting us know where Dorothy House is underrepresented so we can improve our reach
• Building light, friendly relationships with staff and community contacts
• Feeding back anything useful you notice while out and about
• Attending community events, fairs, markets, and local gatherings
• Supporting Dorothy House information stalls
• Chatting to members of the public, answering simple questions, sharing how they can support our work and passing on anything requiring further follow up
• Working alongside staff and other volunteers to make events run smoothly

The Community Ambassador Volunteer role is a flexible, people-focused role where you'll represent MumsAid at local events, community fairs, business engagement opportunities, and awareness-raising activities. Acting as a friendly and knowledgeable ambassador, you'll help share information about our services, fundraising activities, and volunteering opportunities, helping more people learn about MumsAid. 

No previous experience is required. We will provide training, resources, and ongoing support to help you feel confident representing MumsAid in your community. 

What will you be doing? 

• Representing MumsAid at local community events, fairs, markets, business events, and awareness-raising opportunities. 

• Acting as a friendly and welcoming point of contact for members of the public. 

• Talking to people about MumsAid's services and the support available. 

• Sharing information about volunteering, fundraising, and ways to get involved with MumsAid. 

• Distributing leaflets, promotional materials, and information resources. 

• Helping raise awareness of perinatal mental health and the support available through MumsAid. 

• Answering general questions about MumsAid and signposting enquiries to the appropriate staff member where needed. 

• Gathering feedback, questions, and community insights to share with the MumsAid team. 

• Helping to create a positive, inclusive, and welcoming presence for MumsAid within the local community.

About The Role

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

We're looking for a Fundraising Trustee to join our Board and provide strategic fundraising expertise. This role combines governance responsibilities with practical support, helping us strengthen existing income streams, develop new opportunities and build relationships across Peckham and Southwark.

Main Responsibilities:

• Governance and Strategic Leadership: Fulfil the responsibilities of a charity trustee, ensuring effective governance and accountability. Attend and contribute to Board meetings and strategic discussions. 

• Fundraising: Provide strategic advice across key income streams, including trusts and foundations, statutory contracts, inividual giving and corporate partnerships. Share fundraising expertise and help identify new opportunitiies for sustainable income. 

• Community Engagement: Attend and support fundraising events, community activities and supporter engagement opportunities. Act as an enthusiastic ambassador for Pecan, promoting our mission and values within the local community. 

Essential Requirements 

• A practising Christian who is committed to Pecan's mission and values
• Experience of charity fundraising, such as community fundraising, events, church engagement, corporate partnerships or individual giving. 
• Strong relationship-building and networking skills. 
• Willingness to act as a local ambassador for Pecan. 
• Able to attend Board meetings held in the evenings. 

Desirable knowledge/expertise

• Knowledge of, or strong connections within, Peckham and/or Southwark.
• Ability to commit to 4-8 hours per month, with some months requiring more time to attend meetings, fundraising events, or networking opportunities. We recognise that trustees have varying availability, and additional involvement beyond core governance responsibilities is flexible. 
• Experience working with churches.
• Experience engaging local businesses, schools or community organisations. 
• Understanding of charity governance and trustee responsibilities. 
• Existing networks within Peckham and Southwark. 

Time Commitment 

The expected commitment is flexible and averages a few hours each month, including:

• 4-6 Board meetings per year (evenings, usually held virtually).
• Ad hoc Fundraising Committee meetings (typically during the daytime). 
• Occassional fundraising and networking events, including some evenings and weekends
• Additional support nd networking where your availability allows.

As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in helping people in Havering know where to turn when they need urgent mental health support. You’ll be out and about in the community spreading the word about the Waltham Forest Beacon — chatting to local people, connecting with community centres, faith groups and local organisations, and sharing information through leaflets and posters. This is a great role for someone confident, friendly and passionate about making support more visible and accessible in the community.

What you will be doing

• Promoting the Havering Crisis Café within the local community
• Visiting community centres, libraries, GP surgeries, faith settings and other local spaces
• Handing out leaflets and displaying posters
• Helping build positive relationships with local organisations and community groups
• Feeding back any insights, questions or community needs to the team

The skills you need

• Friendly, approachable and confident talking to new people
• An interest in mental health, wellbeing and community support
• Good communication skills and a respectful, non judgemental approach

What Makes This Role Different? 

This is a flexible, ad hoc, volunteer-led role that fits around your lifestyle and commitments. There are no set fundraising targets or fixed weekly hours. You decide how you'd like to support Make-A-Wish and how much time you can give. 

Fundraising is at the heart of this role and is driven by your own ideas, local connections, and enthusiasm. Whether it's organising a community event, engaging local businesses, securing donations, or encouraging others to get involved, you'll help generate the funds needed to grant wishes. We'll provide guidance, resources, and support along the way. 

How You'll Get Started 

Getting started as a Community Wish Maker is simple. Within your first few months, you'll choose a fundraising activity from our Community Fundraising Toolkit or create your own fundraising idea. 

You can: 

- Organise an activity independently 
- Fundraise with friends, family or colleagues 
- Team up with other local Community Wish Makers 
- Support an existing Make-A-Wish fundraising campaign or event 
- Whether it's a bake sale, quiz night, sponsored challenge, workplace fundraiser, school activity or local business partnership, you'll be helping raise the funds needed to grant more wishes

We'll provide resources, guidance and support to help you succeed.
