VOLUNTEER: Chair of the Board of Trustees
SUNSHINE Charity — Bringing positivity, human connection, community and belonging across London
SUNSHINE Charity is a vibrant, 100% volunteer‑powered start-up movement dedicated to bringing SUNSHINE into people’s lives . We aim to help smash loneliness and social isolation by creating welcoming opportunities to connect, participate, learn, volunteer, make friends and feel like that people belong.
Why We Need You
SUNSHINE is growing into our next chapter — fast. Our programmes, events and volunteer opportunities are about to get starting up across London.
But our Founder, who has been carrying the charity forward with enormous heart and energy, now needs to step back from leading the board, to focus on the operational aspects of the charity. He will remain as Vice Chair, offering support, continuity and passion — but we need a new Chair who can confidently take the reins.
Our current trustees are passionate, committed and enthusiastic, but apart from the Founder, they are new to trusteeship. We need someone who can:
Lead with clarity
Mentor with patience
Govern with confidence
Inspire with warmth
And help shape a board that reflects SUNSHINE’s culture of positivity, connection, community and belonging
If you’re an experienced trustee or former Chair who loves developing people, strengthening governance and building a thriving board culture — this role is made for you.
What You’ll Do
As Chair of SUNSHINE Charity, you will:
Provide strong, steady leadership to a developing board.
Support the Founder (now Vice Chair).
Ensure excellent governance and strategic oversight.
Drive momentum, accountability and positive culture.
Champion SUNSHINE’s mission and values internally and externally.
Help shape a charity that is 100% volunteer-powered and community-focused.
You’ll be joining a charity where kindness is a superpower, community is everything, and every volunteer helps bring SUNSHINE into people’s lives.
Time Commitment
We keep things simple, structured and manageable.
Board meetings: Every 3rd Monday, 7–9pm
Working groups: Light involvement between meetings
Total commitment: Around 4 hours per month
This is a role designed for someone who wants to make a meaningful difference without an overwhelming time burden.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
An experienced trustee or Chair.
Confident in governance, leadership and board development.
Warm, encouraging and people-focused.
Skilled at mentoring newer trustees.
Passionate about tackling loneliness and building community.
Energised by SUNSHINE’s culture of positivity, human connection, community and belonging.
What You’ll Gain
The chance to lead a charity with huge heart and huge potential.
A close, collaborative relationship with the Founder/Vice Chair.
The opportunity to shape a board, culture and movement.
The joy of helping people feel connected, valued and part of a community.
A role where your experience will genuinely change lives.
Ready to Bring Your Light to SUNSHINE?
If you’re a seasoned trustee who wants to help build a joyful, human, community-powered charity — we’d love to hear from you.
Join the SUNSHINE movement.
Help us bring connection, community and belonging to London.
COME SHINE WITH US.

Term of opportunity: This opportunity involves participation in two Mosaic programmes during 2026-2027 academic year.
Location: We will be delivering the Mosaic scheme schools across the Liverpool area. Exact programme details will be confirmed through the summer.
Commitment:
The King’s Trust Mosaic programme is a group mentoring scheme for learners aged 11-18. Mosaic is delivered on-site with school partners and aims to raise learner aspirations, build self-belief, and develop employability skills for young people.
As a volunteer Education Mentor, you'll join a dynamic team to deliver the Mosaic scheme in a local school. Mosaic is structured as 8 mentoring sessions delivered over 8 weeks that will aim to build group rapport and cover essential topics like communication, goal setting and problem solving. These sessions will be delivered with a consistent group of young people, ensuring you can build meaningful connections and see their progress over time. Most Mosaic projects conclude with a ‘World of Work’ visit with a local employer, giving young participants first-hand experience of what it’s really like in a contemporary UK workplace.
We are seeking volunteers in the Liverpool area who have a passion and drive to make a difference to the lives of young people.
For success in this role, you will need to be an excellent communicator and confident facilitator of group activities, with a willingness to try out new things in a collaborative environment. An educational background is not required, but a genuine interest in engaging with and developing the skills of young people is essential.
Session content and full support is provided to all volunteers via a King’s Trust Youth Development Lead, who can expertly assist with guidance and materials that will help you to make a significant impact on the lives of young people. Full training will be provided to help set you up for success.

We are looking for team members who can commit for a minimum of 10 weeks, with adaptable profiles and who have the enthusiasm and energy we need to provide support in various areas across the organisation.
In this generalist role, you will find yourself responsible for a variety of tasks, helping to ensure that both our programme activities and day-to-day operations run smoothly. Second Tree works in a transparent way, in a challenging and changeable situation in the field; therefore, an ability to learn quickly and be open to feedback is vital.
Your role would include:
The possible tasks included below are not exhaustive or rigidly defined; an exact role profile is dependent on the skill set of individual applicants. An average day might see you talking to students in a camp to tell them about a new class, or supporting the writing of a grant proposal. Tasks could loosely fall within 4 key areas:
Programmes
Supporting programme coordinators in maintaining the day to day running of their activities with the Youth or Adult Education Programmes
Supporting our children’s teachers or workshop facilitators in the planning or delivery of classes or excursions outside of camps
Communicating key messages about our programmes to our students in camps
Admin, Finance & Logistics
Supporting our management team in liaising with external partners
Maintaining organisation-wide financial processes
Coordinating the arrival and housing of incoming team members
Grants & Partnerships
Supporting in the identification of relevant grants
Supporting in grant writing activities
Communications & Fundraising

Developing social media strategies to expand our reach and impact
Producing regular reports on performance
Maintaining our website
Supporting the planning and implementation of Second Tree’s fundraising initiatives, such as campaigns
Organising and maintaining regular communications with Second Tree’s donors (newsletters, thank you letters)
You should be able to:
Be accountable and efficient, making sure that tasks that you take up are completed on the agreed timeframe
Be honest and transparent, being able to give and receive feedback in the most straightforward way possible
Care for people; the interests of the people we work with should always be your first concern
Instil the values above in the people that work with you
Have keen problem-solving abilities, and a good understanding of what questions to ask, and when
Communicate in English, both written and orally
Learn quickly, managing a wide-ranging and intense workload
What do we offer?
A nurturing and collaborative working environment. We work hard to help our team members grow; investing in personal and professional development.
Accommodation in a shared house
Transportation to/from work
After completion of a three-month trial, if you commit long-term, a small monthly expenses refund
In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.
Looking for an internship?
If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the vacancy that you’re interested in and mention this. We have agreements with several universities across Europe, and in many other cases, these agreements can be developed on an ad hoc basis.
NOTE: If you require a visa to stay in Greece for the minimum ten-week commitment, please know that as a Greek NGO, we are unable to sponsor your visa.
We challenge the biases that make us see refugees as “the other”. We change the way society perceives refugees, and refugees perceive society.
