We offer a range of popular youth programmes for young people aged 5-25. This essential service is only possible with the support of our dedicated volunteers. They help young people to learn first aid and other important life skills in a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment.

As a volunteer, you can get involved with Badgers (ages 5-10) and Cadets (ages 11-17).

Volunteering with our Youth Team is an incredibly varied and rewarding role. One day you could be designing and delivering a game to teach first aid, the next you could be supporting a youth camp-out. No two days are the same!

Toad Hall Animal Care – Saturdays Volunteer

About The Role

By caring for amphibians and supporting the Toad Hall exhibit, this role plays a vital part in conservation education and biodiversity protection. Volunteers help raise awareness of wetland species and the threats they face by engaging the public through interactive presentations, inspiring visitors to value and support wetland conservation.

What will you be doing:

• General animal husbandry such as feeding, water changes, and exhibit maintenance.
• Data recording for life support systems.
• General maintenance of public and back of house areas
• Helping with new projects and stock management.
• Conducting interactive presentations to engage the general public in the work of WWT, the amphibians in the Toad Hall exhibit, and wider conservation messages (training provided)
• Research and observations recording
• Adhering to all bio-security and hygiene protocols across the Living Collections

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. We are particularly looking for volunteers to support us on Saturdays.

About You

Who are we looking for?

There are two parts to this role: assisting with daily animal management duties in the Living Collections department and engaging our visitors on the amphibians and the work of Living Collection. Both aspects are equally important, and so we are looking for volunteers with the following:

• Basic animal husbandry knowledge, with a particular interest in amphibians would be advantageous
• Excellent customer service skills; confidence and enthusiasm when engaging the public
• Good physical health – this role will involve some manual handling
• Good attention to detail and able to follow instructions
• The ability to work on your own initiative under the direction of the Ectotherm team, following strict animal care protocols.

The role would be enjoyable for those who love working closely with animals, educating others, and gaining hands-on experience in an internationally important wetland site.  This role is particularly for those that are able to volunteer with us on Saturday as we are keen to boost our team on that day, other days may be available through other advertised roles.
 
Please note that this role is not suitable for those under the age of 18.

Background to the charity
Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is a local charity formed in March 2017. We are a small and growing charity, whose volunteers and supporters have come together to welcome and help support the refugees who have fled the fighting and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine, and are now resettling in our community.
Starting with just one refugee family, we have expanded our efforts over the years and are proud to have supported about 50 families as they settle and rebuild their lives in our community.
Purpose of Role:
Would you like to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of refugee families as they settle into life in Britain—supporting them to achieve independence and integrate confidently into their new communities?
As a member of the SWR Voluntary Leadership Team (VLT), you will contribute to the effective delivery of core services for refugees and help support and coordinate our valued volunteers.
Our work spans general support with settling in, integration, building independence, language learning, educational guidance, and assistance in accessing suitable employment. In this role, you’ll work closely with other VLT members, with a particular focus on the general support function, collaborating with volunteer teams and ensuring they are well-informed, resourced, and confident in providing person-centred support.
This is a chance to contribute meaningfully within a growing, well-regarded charity, alongside a dedicated and compassionate team of volunteers who share your passion for helping others.
Key Responsibilities:
● Support communication between lead volunteers and central SWR services to help source equipment or assistance for families.
● Help oversee the changing needs of families, recognising that support levels will gradually reduce as independence builds.
● Collaborate with local authority support workers where families are still receiving formal assistance.
● Assist in developing and tracking Path to Independence Plans for families.
● Liaise with team leads across Education, Language, and Employment functions.
● Keep the Volunteer Lead and wider VLT informed as appropriate.
Skills & Qualities Needed
You should be:
● Compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental
● A good communicator, both in writing and in person
● Organised, with strong attention to detail
● Flexible and culturally sensitive to varying family needs
● Reasonably confident with IT tools (email, shared files, online forms, etc.)
Experience in teaching, social care, or charity work is useful, but not essential. A genuine interest in helping others and working collaboratively is most important.
Support & Training Provided
All SWR volunteers are expected to complete an induction, including mandatory safeguarding training. We also provide training on cultural awareness to help volunteers support families sensitively and effectively.

• Assist in the planning and logistics of events (e.g., seminars, workshops, fundraising dinners, and youth programs).

• Help with on-the-day event setup, registration, and coordination to ensure a seamless experience.

• Promote events through social media, flyers, and community outreach to maximize attendance.

• Engage with attendees, speakers, and volunteers to foster a welcoming and beneficial environment.

• Attend weekly/bi-weekly team meetings to discuss event progress, updates, and strategies.

• Provide post-event feedback and suggestions for improvement.

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and community service.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to work well in a team and take initiative.

• Availability to assist during events (some evenings/weekends may be required).

• Commitment to attending regular team meetings (weekly/bi-weekly).

• Previous event coordination experience is a plus but not mandatory.

We are currently in the second year of our five-year strategy, and the recent appointment of our new Chief Executive, Dr Sue Griffiths, who joins us on 2 March, marks a significant moment for the organisation. Sue and the Board will work closely to ensure that The Young Foundation continues to deliver against its core purpose: building a just society in which everyone can participate and all contributions are valued.

At The Young Foundation, we know that inequality diminishes lives, corrodes community wellbeing, and reduces prosperity for society. Our mission is to create the conditions in which people and communities can flourish. Working in partnership with the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, as well as public and private sector organisations, we empower people to fulfil their potential and lead happier, more meaningful lives. Ultimately, our work seeks to unlock shared prosperity.

Very little about the future of society is inevitable. Bound by our shared humanity, we believe that we collectively hold the power to shape our communities and institutions. Drawing on over 60 years of research, innovation and incubation, we put proven tools and approaches into practice to drive meaningful and lasting change.

As an influential and pioneering organisation in our field, we are seeking new Trustees to help us build the strongest non-executive team possible. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates from across the UK who can offer depth of insight, experience or influence in one or more of the following areas:

· Social innovation and community action

· Local or combined authorities

· Health

· Business and social entrepreneurship

· Higher education

· Political networks

· Finance (an accountancy qualification would be an asset)

· External affairs and influencing, including opinion formers

Our Trustees bring the full breadth of their professional expertise and lived experience into the Boardroom.
