Engagement outreach volunteer roles

We're setting up a new telephone group which will offer blind and partially sighted people living with Glaucoma the opportunity to socialise with one another on a regular basis. We're looking for the right person to facilitate the group. Do you have personal or professional experience of Glaucoma? If you’re also a good listener, able to manage group conversations and make people feel comfortable in a social group environment, we’re keen to hear from you.

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline and/or mobile phone. We ask you to commit to 1-2 hours per week to facilitate one group session, which will take place at the same day and time each week.

You will be the link between the group participants and the RNIB Talk and Support team and will:

• Listen to the group conversation, ensure it flows and that all conversations are appropriate;
• Make appropriate contributions as and when required to stimulate conversation;
• Create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere thus encouraging all participants to feel comfortable taking part;
• Report any Safeguarding concerns or data breaches to the Talk & Support staff team.

Description

You'll be raising awareness, & improving understanding of sight loss through delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions in your local community. Through these engaging sessions, you'll inspire participants to make small changes to their behaviour that make a massive difference in the day-to-day lives of people with sight loss. As a Community Change Champion, this will involve:

• Talking directly with community leaders, businesses, & local groups about ways they can get involved & inviting them to join an Awareness to Action session.
• Delivering RNIB’s Awareness to Action sessions either in person or online, using our resources. You may do this on your own or with a team of other local volunteers, both sighted and with sight loss.
• Sharing RNIB’s information & initiatives so people know we’re here for them.
• If you have a personal link to sight loss, sharing your experience during the session to help give a tangible example of how local people can make a real difference.
• Telling us about any activities you have engaged in via a Microsoft form.

The Community Ambassador Volunteer role is a flexible, people-focused role where you'll represent MumsAid at local events, community fairs, business engagement opportunities, and awareness-raising activities. Acting as a friendly and knowledgeable ambassador, you'll help share information about our services, fundraising activities, and volunteering opportunities, helping more people learn about MumsAid. 

No previous experience is required. We will provide training, resources, and ongoing support to help you feel confident representing MumsAid in your community. 

What will you be doing? 

• Representing MumsAid at local community events, fairs, markets, business events, and awareness-raising opportunities. 

• Acting as a friendly and welcoming point of contact for members of the public. 

• Talking to people about MumsAid's services and the support available. 

• Sharing information about volunteering, fundraising, and ways to get involved with MumsAid. 

• Distributing leaflets, promotional materials, and information resources. 

• Helping raise awareness of perinatal mental health and the support available through MumsAid.

• Delivering talks on behalf of RNIB’s Social Action Team.

This is an ideal opportunity for anybody keen to get first-hand experience of the inspiring and exciting small charitable and community sector in London.

In the first instance, you will be working with our grants manager, appraising grant applications, visiting applicants and preparing reports on applicant suitability for consideration by the board, including a recommendation as to whether to make the grant or not. This is your opportunity to get to grips with the thriving community sectors in Ealing, Hounslow and Hillingdon and it is your judgement which will determine who is to receive funds.

Full training will be given and you will be able to shadow our grants manager in her work until you feel comfortable enough to take on your own cases.

As the role develops, you may, if you choose, get involved in our advice-giving, training and research activities. We are a fast-growing charity with ambitious plans, so this is your chance to get involved in our exciting activities right from the start.

The role would ideally suit someone who works part-time as during certain periods of the year (our grant rounds), you will be working 1-2 days a week.

Whatever the task we want our customers to have access to the same Technology as their sighted peers and ensuring they can live life as independently as possible.

• Meeting and greeting community members on arrival.
• Assist customers with items such as tablets and phones in order for customers to make the best use of them.
• Downloading the latest apps, helping customers with visual enhancements or spending time with customers to learn voice over.
• Providing a warm atmosphere in order to enhance the learning experience.

As a Compassionate Neighbour Volunteer you’ll not only gain new skills, confidence, and social networks; you’ll be making a difference in your local community.

To lead, motivate and encourage the volunteers at each foodbank session and ensure every person visiting a foodbank session receives a friendly welcome and is treated with compassion, respect and dignity

Organise each foodbank session and ensure each is run efficiently and to a high standard in accordance with the Trussell franchise and Arden Foodbank policies and procedures

Lead a short team briefing with volunteers at the beginning of each foodbank session and a short session review at the end

Ensure that the distribution centre is a safe place for all clients and volunteers, that safeguarding procedures are understood and implemented, and that client confidentiality is respected

Deal appropriately with incidents, unforeseen events, or any other issues

Monitor health and safety at each foodbank session and record accidents and near misses

Review stock levels at the end of each foodbank session and complete a restock order to replace food and other items given out at that session

Ensure all necessary information is accurately recorded on the Data Collection System and communicate with referral agencies in response to queries or issues arising from vouchers presented by clients

Provide the Foodbank Manager with a report at the end of each session and raise any concerns regarding the operation of the session, or the distribution centre

Undertake the training of volunteers as may be required

• Experience creating engaging social media content using tools such as Canva or similar.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Creativity, initiative and the ability to work independently.
• A passion for education, social mobility or supporting young people.
