We are looking for an organised, creative and enthusiastic Volunteer Events & Exhibitions Coordinator to support Penificent as we continue developing our presence across comics, publishing, youth engagement and the creative industries.
Penificent is an original comics publisher and creative social enterprise. We create diverse original stories through titles including Peace of War, KnifeBoy, A Dream to Live, State of Mind and Exploited & Criminalised, while also using comics and storytelling to engage young people around important social issues.
This opportunity would suit someone looking to build practical experience in events, exhibitions, publishing, entertainment or the wider creative sector.
Depending on the event, you may support us with:
• Researching Comic Cons, festivals, exhibitions and creative events
• Supporting exhibitor applications and event deadlines
• Helping plan exhibition stands and visitor experiences
• Supporting stock planning and comic displays
• Helping organise banners, posters, character displays and signage
• Supporting pricing, promotions and comic bundles
• Setting up QR codes for our website, shop and mailing list
• Supporting event staffing and rotas
• Helping coordinate photographers, videographers and other volunteers
• Supporting event day setup and breakdown
• Welcoming and engaging with visitors
• Helping promote Penificent comics and characters
• Supporting lead capture from schools, councils, universities, youth organisations and potential partners
• Helping track stock and sales during events
• Gathering visitor feedback
• Supporting photographs, videos and social media content
• Helping produce a short event summary after major events
• Supporting follow up with useful contacts where appropriate
Who we are looking for
You do not need to be an experienced Event Manager.
We are particularly interested in someone who is:
• Organised and reliable
• Confident communicating with people
• Creative and proactive
• Comfortable using spreadsheets and basic planning tools
• Interested in events, comics, publishing or entertainment
• Comfortable working in busy public environments
• Confident speaking with customers, partners and event organisers
• Able to work independently while also being part of a small team
• Interested in learning more about event planning and exhibitions
Experience with Comic Cons, exhibitions, festivals, gaming, anime, publishing, theatre, entertainment or creative events would be particularly welcome, but it is not essential.
What you can gain
This is an opportunity to gain hands on experience supporting a growing independent comics publisher and social enterprise.
You will have the opportunity to:
• Build practical event and exhibition experience
• Gain experience supporting major public events
• Develop event planning and coordination skills
• Build experience across comics, publishing and creative industries
• Contribute ideas to Penificent's event strategy
• Work alongside our creative and marketing team
• Gain experience that can be added to your CV and portfolio
• Receive a reference following a meaningful period of volunteering, subject to satisfactory performance
As Penificent continues to grow, there may also be opportunities for strong volunteers to be considered for future paid freelance assignments where appropriate.
Time commitment
This is a flexible opportunity with no fixed weekly commitment.
Some projects may only require a few hours of preparation and one event day, while larger events may involve additional planning.
Availability and responsibilities will always be discussed before each event.
Most current opportunities are expected to take place in London.
Expenses
Reasonable agreed expenses connected directly to volunteering assignments will be reimbursed by Penificent where approved in advance.
