Can you help deliver great customer service for a few hours a week in our Keswick shop? 

We need help for between 2 and 4 hours on any day of the week (excluding Sundays) that suits you. Join our friendly volunteer team and help make a real difference to children's lives. 

What will I be doing?

3 days per week, ideally Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

This is an excellent opportunity for someone aiming for a career in managing and developing a busy urban Nature Reserve, working with committed local volunteers and groups. 

There is a travel and training allowance of £1500 for this role which can be tailored to the specific needs and interests of the individual. 

The role will be managed and supported by two experienced team colleagues as well as having access to other areas of a vibrant and busy organisation. 
 

Main purpose of Role:
An opportunity to gain work experience and training in practical and applied conservation work with a Wildlife Trust in beautiful Herefordshire. This role is unique in offering the postholder the opportunity to work with the ‘Restoring Bartonsham Meadows’ Project, a National Lottery Heritage Funded project run by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust.

Training will be provided in many aspects of reserve management and community engagement and can include the gaining of qualifications in relevant skills according to the candidate’s background.

Can you help us identify and prepare great items for sale online for a few hours a week in our Keswick shop?

As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of WAND UK’s financial affairs. The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

Treasurer role

· Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.

· Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

· Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.

· Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.

· Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with the Director

· Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process

· Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.

· Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Director to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees.

What we are looking for

· A finance professional. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage.

· A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.

· Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.

· Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors

In addition to the above, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees:

● Support and provide advice on WAND UK’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

● Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

● Oversee WAND UK’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

● Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

● Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

● Review and approve WAND UK’s financial statements.

● Provide support and challenge to WAND UK’s Director in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.

● Keep abreast of changes in WAND UK’s operating environment.

●  Contribute to regular reviews of WAND UK’s own governance.

● Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

● Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WAND UK’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.

● Contribute to the broader promotion of WAND UK’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

· Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term of office.

· After the 3 years of service a trustee needs to stand down and be re-elected by the Board if they would like to continue.

● This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Time Commitment (Estimated at 1-2 hours maximum per month)

● Attending four Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely and in person at WAND UK’s office located at St Charles centre for health and wellbeing, Exmoor street W10 6DZ. 

● Monthly scheduled meeting with the Director with flexibility to respond swiftly to the occasional ad hoc issue.

● Attending half day of the annual strategy and planned training sessions.

As an Enhanced First Response Volunteer, you and a partner volunteer will look for referrals made by StreetLink, engaging with those sleeping rough and passing on valuable information to the Outreach team. Enhanced First Responders play a crucial role in ensuring those sleeping rough receive vital support from the Outreach Team to move away from the streets and get connected with local services. These are driving shifts, so between you and your partner volunteer, one of you will drive, whilst the other can support with navigation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause, gain hands-on experience in social media and digital marketing within a non-profit setting, and make a positive impact on the lives of young people experiencing loneliness.

You’ll support the creation of engaging, on-brand content across our platforms, content planning, trend-led posting, and cross-promotion with partners - while helping to grow and engage our online community around events, campaigns, and impact stories.

Cheer Squad Volunteer - London Marathon Sunday 26th April & London Landmarks Half Marathon Sunday 12th April.

The difference you will make to cats and people

 As a charity, we are only able to help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to the donations we receive from generous members of the public. Fundraising events are a great source of income for the charity. As a Cheer Squad Volunteer, you will support Cats Protection’s event participants make it through their challenge by cheering them on at selected cheering points along event routes. You will also be instrumental in raising awareness and representing the charity.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Cheer on our event participants who are taking part to raise funds for Cats Protection.
• Waving hand flags
• Using inflatable ‘bangers’ to make noise
• Shake maraca’s
• High ‘paw’ participants
• Represent Cats Protection by wearing one of our branded high-vis vests (supplied).
• Set up cheer spots including attaching banners, putting together sail flags and blowing up balloons.
• Provide a smile, enthusiasm and motivation
