About Us

We are a UK charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by Long Covid. Through advocacy, awareness, and direct support services, we work to improve the lives of those living with the condition. As our organisation grows, we are seeking a  bookkeeper to help manage our financial records and ensure compliance with charity finance regulations.

What will you be doing?

As a Volunteer Bookkeeper, you will be at the heart of our financial operations, ensuring our charity runs smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting financial reporting in line with charity finance regulations. Your role will help us maintain financial transparency and accountability, ensuring that every pound is used effectively to support individuals affected by Long Covid.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced bookkeeper who understands the unique financial needs of charities and non-profits. You should be confident in handling financial transactions, keeping detailed records, and ensuring compliance with charity finance regulations.

The ideal candidate will:

Hold an AAT Level 3 or 4 qualification, ICB, or equivalent bookkeeping qualification
Have a minimum of three years’ bookkeeping experience
Demonstrate strong knowledge of charity finance regulations and fund accounting principles
Have experience in bank reconciliation, expense management, and payroll processing.
Be able to prepare basic financial reports and support budget monitoring
Be highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently
Have strong time management and organisational skills
Communicate effectively with trustees, staff, and external partners
Be willing to work collaboratively with trustees and senior leadership on budgeting, ensuring bookkeeping and Xero coding aligns with budgets and reporting requirements
Be passionate about making a difference, aligned with our mission, and committed to integrity and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Record-Keeping

Maintain and update financial records in Xero accounting software.
Ensure all income and expenditure are recorded accurately and categorised correctly.
Bank Reconciliation & Transactions

Process and reconcile bank transactions, donations, grants, and fundraising income.
Manage expense claims and ensure appropriate authorisation processes are followed.
Payroll & Payments

Process payments to staff, freelancers, and suppliers in a timely manner.
Ensure payroll records are correctly maintained (liaising with payroll providers if applicable).
Financial Reporting & Compliance

Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial reports, and budget tracking.
Prepare financial data for trustee meetings and annual reporting.
Support compliance with charity finance regulations, including Gift Aid, VAT (if applicable), and fund accounting principles.
Liaison & Support

Work closely with the Treasurer and relevant stakeholders to provide financial insights.
Assist in the preparation of financial documents for audits or external reviews.

Role purpose

The Fundraising Trustee will bring expertise, insight, and strategic guidance to help the charity strengthen and diversify its income. Working with the Board and staff/volunteers, they will ensure fundraising is ethical, sustainable, and aligned with the charity’s mission and values.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the overall governance of the charity as a member of the Board of Trustees.
• Provide advice and support on fundraising strategy, ensuring income generation is realistic and compliant with regulation.
• Act as a fundraising champion on HIAS+JCORE’s board, working with and supporting other trustees to explore fundraising possibilities.
• If networks for fundraising exist, use them to support the work of the charity.
• Support the development of diverse fundraising streams (e.g. individual giving, trusts and foundations, community fundraising, corporate support) and advise and support with appeals and major fundraising events/campaigns.
• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice, including the Code of Fundraising Practice, and through HIAS+JCORE’s policies and procedures.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work and helping to raise its profile.

Person specification

Essential:

• Commitment to the charity’s mission and values.
• Understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of charity trusteeship.
• Knowledge and experience of fundraising (e.g. trusts, corporates, major donors, community fundraising, or digital campaigns).
• Strategic thinker, able to balance long-term planning with practical advice.

• Experience of fundraising in a small charity context.

VOLUNTEER POSITION – Grants Assistant

Hope and Vision Communities is a small charity based in Reading providing supported, move-on accommodation for people who have successfully completed residential rehabilitation.  We have a Christian ethos, where everyone can be loved and accepted with a sense of belonging, with the hope and opportunity of a new life. We are growing to expand who we can help to other geographical areas, as well as working on opening a women’s service.    

Growing our services means that we also need to grow our fundraising income, and to help reach this, we are looking for a skilled volunteer who could help us increase our grant submissions. The role will support the Trusts and Grants Fundraiser in managing a regular flow of grant applications to Trusts and Foundations.

Key Responsibilities

 •  Research and apply for grants and funding opportunities already identified in our CRM system - this could be potentially 3 applications a week where you prepare a customised case for support to be sent out to a funder

Key Skills and Qualifications

 •  Experience in using Microsoft Sharepoint for remote working

 •Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to inspire and engage diverse audiences.

 •  Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

The role will support the Trusts and Grants Fundraiser with a focus on managing the charity’s social media posts; updates to the website and supporting event admin.

Key Tasks:

• Scheduling audience-specific, engaging and shareable content in different formats 

• Regularly posting across our social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) and monitoring engagement to increase our following 

• Creating call to actions to increase our Mailchimp mailing list 

• Book attendance at networking and fundraising events

• Help us with copy writing for the press, fundraising tools and internet site. 

Key Skills:

• Comfortable in using digital comms tools such as mailchimp; wordpress; eventbrite; canva 

• Experienced in using social media such as Facebook; Instagram; LinkedIn 

• Able to research social media management tools such as Buffer 

• A confident copywriter who can write for different comms channels 

• Confident communicator with strong organisational skills

MAIN PURPOSE: 

• To support the comms/fundraising team with communication and events. 

• Help us increase our outreach in the communities and beyond, build a group of supporters and regular donors.

Estimated need for the charity: 

Roughly 4-6 hours per week, whenever is most convenient for you. For example, 3 hours, two days a week. You will be working mainly remotely from home, although volunteers are very welcome to work from our offices in Hare Hatch. You must have access to your own laptop and secure internet connection.

We also want to strengthen the representation on the Board of people, for example in terms of age, ethnicity, lived experience of disability, gender and LGBTQ representation.
