By volunteering with us in one of our amazing retail spaces you will be raising essential funds for Oxfam – all whilst learning new skills and meeting some incredible people.

What you will be doing

• Chatting to customers who drop off donations and other members of the team.
• Preparing stock to be put out on the shop floor, ready for sale.

You will meet some amazing people, whilst making a positive impact to their lives by driving to places they enjoy and appointments that are important. 

Activities will include: 

• Driving the people we support between their homes and services in a safe manner, in accordance with UK law. 

• Driving your own car or house vehicles

• Driving around the St Mellon’s area, which will be the start and end point of the majority of journeys 

• Assisting people we support in and out of vehicles and locations – with assistance from trained Dimensions staff. 

• Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the people we support. 

 
We are looking for drivers who: 

• Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience 

• Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent) 

• Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to  journeys 

• Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff 

• Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (every other weekend, times to be agreed) 

A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping halow’s young people enjoy new experiences, build friendships, and take part in activities they love. As an Arts & Crafts Volunteer, you’ll support our young people as they explore a variety of creative activities, including drawing, painting, pottery, and sculpture. You'll help encourage creativity, build confidence, and support them in developing new artistic skills in a fun and welcoming environment. Although our offices are based in Guildford, we welcome volunteers from various places, as opportunities for their support arise all over Surrey. They are not expected to come to us with any previous experience; all we ask for is commitment and a willingness to work with our young people.

The Adult Literacy Trust (ALT) wants to help adult learners break the cycle of poor literacy by offering them personalised reading support.

We offer one-to-one literacy support as a complement to formal teaching in education settings. We are dedicated to ensuring that adults who wish to improve their literacy skills - and to increase their life chances - receive the help they need to become confident readers.

Would you like to support an adult learner to become a confident reader? We are looking for volunteers to become trained Reading Coaches and work with adult learners on a one-to-one (or sometimes one-to-two) basis.

What it looks like in practice:

• Meeting a learner weekly, on-site at their college campus, typically before or after their formal classes for about an hour a week
• Building a constructive relationship with a learner
• Helping to check the learner’s understanding, build their confidence in reading, and provide support where needed
• Helping the learner practice skills they’re learning in the classroom and encourage confidence and resilience so that they persist with their studies

We have opportunities across London and we'll work around your schedule.

ALT is partnered with a range of colleges across London as we assign you to a location that works for you. All our locations are listed on our website. We are particularly looking for volunteers who can support learners on site at Westminster Adult Education Services based atLisson Grove NW8 8LW, New City College Tower Hamlets E14 0BX and Morley College Stockwell SW4 6RA. 

The timings are flexible - ALT match you to a learner based on your respective availability. Typically, most ALT sessions take place sometime between 10am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

Personal Specification:

No prior teaching experience or qualification is needed. We provide full training so that volunteers are confident to start their sessions. However, volunteers must:

• Be at least 18
• Be able to speak and write English well enough to communicate clearly.
• Have a minimum education of a secondary school level or equivalent (i.e. hold a GCSE or equivalent, in any subject).
• Be willing to undergo a DBS check (provided by ALT)
• Have the right to volunteer in the UK 

About us:

The Adult Literacy Trust provides adults with one-to-one support to improve their reading skills and confidence, as a complement to formal education provision, ensuring that individuals who wish to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need to become successful readers, and to increase their life chances.

Delivered through a network of specially trained volunteer Reading Coaches, our charity works closely with learning providers - such as Further Education Colleges and Institutes for Adult Learning - to assist people from some of the most disadvantaged communities who could benefit from enhanced support, strengthening learners’ outcomes from their participation in adult community education.

We are looking for a friendly driver to help a lady we support in Calne to attend Down syndrome synchro swimming sessions in Windsor.This driving role will involve an afternoon pick up and evening return, every other Saturday.

Activities will include: 

• Driving the lady we support between her home in Calne to the Swimming pool in Windsor.  

• Driving this journey every other Saturday, with a pick-up time of 3pm and an average return time of 10pm. 

• Being available to wait at the pool so you can make the return trip 

• Driving with the use of your own car

• Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the lady we support. 

• You will always be accompanied by a trained support worker 

We are looking for drivers who:

We are busy team delivering the Supported Internships programme in your area. The programme is based around employment and leisure for young adults with learning disabilities between age 16 and 25. We help people to develop skills for work in a employment setting and build their confidence.

We prepare them for work, and help them improve their Maths and English skills in a classroom setting, as well as:

• Building on their social skills with each other and out in the community
• Keeping them inspired and engaged
