Job description

Could you spare a few hours a week to make someone's day start and finish well?

Life Project supports adults with learning disabilities in Bath, helping people build friendships, develop confidence, learn new skills and, most importantly, feel known and that they belong.

We’re looking for a friendly and reliable Volunteer Minibus Chaperone to join our team and help people travel to and from our Day Services.

You’ll travel with our minibus, helping make the journey safe, welcoming and enjoyable for the people we support. For some of our Makers, the journey is an important part of their day — it’s a chance to chat, catch up with familiar faces and know that someone is there to welcome them.

You don't need to have specialist experience. What matters most is that you're patient, friendly, dependable and enjoy spending time with people. You'll be supported by the Life Project team and will get to know the people you travel with over time.

What you'll be doing

  • Travelling on our minibus with adults with learning disabilities.
  • Helping people feel comfortable and supported during their journey.
  • Providing a friendly face and a bit of conversation along the way.
  • Helping with safe boarding and leaving the minibus.
  • Working alongside our driver and Life Project team.

When?

We particularly need help on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with morning and afternoon journeys:

8.30–9.45am and 2.00–3.15pm

That's around 4½ hours a week, although we're happy to talk to people who may only be able to offer some of these journeys.

Why volunteer with us?

This is a simple role, but it can make a real difference. You'll become a familiar and trusted face to the people you travel with, and you'll be helping them access a place where they can learn, make friends, be creative and belong.

You'll also become part of the Life Project team and have the opportunity to get to know some brilliant people along the way.

If you're looking for a practical, people-focused volunteering role where a few hours of your time can make someone's day better, we'd love to hear from you.
