Management volunteer roles

To lead, motivate and encourage the volunteers at each foodbank session and ensure every person visiting a foodbank session receives a friendly welcome and is treated with compassion, respect and dignity

Organise each foodbank session and ensure each is run efficiently and to a high standard in accordance with the Trussell franchise and Arden Foodbank policies and procedures

Lead a short team briefing with volunteers at the beginning of each foodbank session and a short session review at the end

Ensure that the distribution centre is a safe place for all clients and volunteers, that safeguarding procedures are understood and implemented, and that client confidentiality is respected

Deal appropriately with incidents, unforeseen events, or any other issues

Monitor health and safety at each foodbank session and record accidents and near misses

Review stock levels at the end of each foodbank session and complete a restock order to replace food and other items given out at that session

Ensure all necessary information is accurately recorded on the Data Collection System and communicate with referral agencies in response to queries or issues arising from vouchers presented by clients

Provide the Foodbank Manager with a report at the end of each session and raise any concerns regarding the operation of the session, or the distribution centre

Undertake the training of volunteers as may be required

The Position

We are looking for a Grants Officer who can support us with diverse tasks that include looking for grants opportunities, project development, proposals writing, and liaising with potential partners and donors. In this role you’ll be a key contributor to the continued existence of Second Tree, which is dependent on grants to survive, and to the creation of new projects and partnerships. To do this successfully, you'll need to employ meticulous time-management and organisation skills, as juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines is common in this role.

The role will include:

• Researching and identifying new grant opportunities on a weekly basis

• Summarising relevant grant opportunities and suggesting how to best respond and comply with them

• Researching information and data necessary for grants and grant reporting

• Supporting the design of new projects

• Supporting with proposal writing

• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for the Grants team

• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all project proposals align with organisational, and programme strategies

• Establishing and maintaining connections with funding bodies

You should be able to:

• Professionally communicate in English (verbally and in writing)

• Read, comprehend, interpret, summarise and follow proposal guidelines

• Work to tight deadlines with flexibility and a problem-solving attitude;

• Conduct thorough, high-quality, independent research

• Work both independently and as part of a team

• Manage and prioritise projects effectively to meet team and proposal deadlines

The ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge of project management techniques such as LFA

• Knowledge of and experience with grant-giving bodies and other external funding sources (e.g. European Commission)

• A strong sense of logic while building an argument

Providing a confidential non-judgemental listening ear to Residents and Staff. Supporting those wishing to develop their spiritual journey from a Christian perspective. The role will be based across one of our hostels in Watford, Borehamwood, Bishop's Stortford, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield or High Wycombe, 

Activities include:

• Proactively engaging with Residents and staff to build safe relationships and trust
• Offering a ‘listening ear’ to all and giving emotional support
• Sensitively discerning when to offer prayer and support from a Christian perspective, and when to use faith based language
• Be inclusive and welcoming to people of all religious faiths and none, referring people to other faith communities as appropriate
• Working alongside support staff, volunteers & local agencies
• Maintaining records of support and feeding back concerns about Resident welfare to Staff/Line Manager.
• Attend regular volunteer team meetings
• Being proactive in seeking spiritual and emotional support for your own benefit as this is a challenging role.

Additional activities could include:

• Facilitating group work for example: Retreat Programme, Bible Study, prayer or Mental Health Support.
• Welcoming new Residents by phone or in person
• Leading or helping with Chaplaincy lead events: Easter/Christmas activities, Remembrance Services
• Being an ambassador for YMCA’s mission in local Churches

Skills/Qualities/Experience:

Sorting Room Volunteer

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play an important role in helping donated items reach the shop floor ready for sale.

• Sorting through donated clothing, books, toys and household items

• Organising stock in the sorting room
• Preparing donations for the shop floor

Sustainable Bolivia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the Bolivian Amazon that partners with local initiatives to provide resources that support ecotourism, regenerative agriculture, health and education. Volunteers/Employees live on Aquicuana on our research base and assist us with our work in the community of Warnes.

Sustainable Bolivia is in need of a teacher to run our afterschool program. The volunteer will plan and deliver classes to children ages 5-15 at our community classroom. Attendance varies from 10-30 students at a time, with over 100 students being served throughout the past year. Classes focus on English and science instruction but should include structured play, arts and crafts, and music (if within the teacher’s skill set). Active projects such as community clean ups, gardening, bird counts, etc are encouraged. Classes occur each weekday afternoon from 2-5pm. Mornings are available for prep and planning, and participation in our other volunteer opportunities such as grant writing, social media management, or ecological research.

Short term volunteers occasionally join the program, and the teacher should be prepared to support and include volunteers in their work.

Applicants should have experience in youth education. They should be fluent in English and have intermediate Spanish ability.

A commitment of at least 3 months is required, with preference given to volunteers who can stay longer.

Food and lodging in a lake front cabin on the reserve are provided for free and no volunteer fee is required. The volunteer is responsible for their flights and travel insurance. 

We are seeking to appoint an experienced professional to join the Education Committee with specific expertise in safeguarding and Prevent.

This is a vital governance role, providing strategic oversight to ensure that:

· Learners are safe and well supported

· Statutory safeguarding responsibilities are fully met

· A strong culture of vigilance and accountability is embedded

All panel members are expected to attend all EAP meetings. These occur four times within each academic year. Meetings are held either online or in person. Each meeting is schedule for an hour and half. If in person, the meeting will be held at CareTrade.

As the EC member with responsibility for safeguarding and Prevent, you will:

Provide strategic oversight of safeguarding systems, policies, and practice

Support and challenge leaders to ensure compliance with statutory guidance, including:

· Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)

· The Prevent Duty

Act as the link committee member for safeguarding and Prevent, liaising with the Principal at TAP

Review safeguarding reports, data, and trends to ensure effective response and continuous improvement

· Learner wellbeing and safety systems

· Ensure appropriate safeguarding of learners from risks including:
