Project manager volunteer roles
Trees for Cities
Salary: Voluntary role, reasonable expenses reimbursed
Location: London with flexibility
Closing Date: 11 March 2026
Trees for Cities is an independent national charity that empowers people to plant and care for trees in towns and cities, targeting places where they have the greatest impact for people and nature. Through trees, we connect people to nature, enrich lives and create leafy, liveable places for today and future generations. In a world facing unprecedented threats from climate change, biodiversity loss and disconnection from nature, our work has never been more urgent.
Since 1993, Trees for Cities has engaged 260,000 people to plant and care for almost 2 million trees across 100 urban areas in the UK and overseas. We are proud to operate at the intersection of social and environmental justice, focusing on communities with the least access to green space and the benefits it brings. To deepen this work, we have developed a new five-year strategy (2025–2030) with the goal of creating a Movement for Urban Trees and Tree Equity. As we enter this ambitious new strategic phase, the new Chair will play a leading role in overseeing its successful embedding and impact.
This is a rare opportunity to lead the Board of a dynamic, growing charity at a pivotal moment. Our Trustees are recruited for their diverse skills and perspectives, and we are proud of our strong governance practices and healthy Board culture. Together, we provide constructive challenge and meaningful support to the executive team, guided by the organisational values that sit at the heart of how we work. We are seeking an exceptional individual to become our next Chair, continuing this work, offering strategic leadership and robust governance to ensure Trees for Cities continues to thrive and grow in impact.
You will bring Board-level experience, including as a Chair, Vice Chair and/or Trustee/Non-Executive Director, and a proven ability to chair Board or committee meetings effectively. With strategic vision and the confidence to navigate complexity, you will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, build consensus and manage diverse perspectives. You will bring a supportive and empowering approach, with a coaching style of leadership that empowers and enables others to thrive. Experience in the environmental, sustainability or urban greening sectors is desirable but not essential; what matters most is your ability to lead with integrity, inspire others and drive impact.
We want our Board to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, and those with lived experience of environmental or social injustice. If you are motivated to help shape our next chapter and bring the leadership and experience to guide our ambition, we encourage you to apply.

Are you ready to build a legacy that saves lives?
In England today, too many men are fighting silent battles. They are navigating the complexities of mental health and personal growth without a compass or a tribe. At MINDSET, we are changing that narrative. We believe that through brotherhood, community, and intentional self-improvement, every man can reclaim his strength and purpose.
We have the vision. We have a dedicated Board of Trustees. We have the momentum. Now, we need the architect of our community.
The Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteer Coordinator (Volunteer)
As our first-ever Volunteer Coordinator, you won’t just be "managing people"—you will be the guardian of our culture. You will be the first point of contact for the passionate individuals joining our mission, ensuring that every person who steps up to help MINDSET feels valued, supported, and empowered to make a difference.
Who You Are
We aren't looking for a CV; we’re looking for a character. We need a connector who is:
-
A Natural People Person: You have the warmth and emotional intelligence to welcome new volunteers and the intuition to see where their talents fit best.
-
An Inspiring Leader: You understand that a charity is only as strong as its people. You can motivate a diverse team and keep the spirit of brotherhood alive.
-
A Person of Action: You possess the organizational spark to turn interest into impact, streamlining how we recruit, onboard, and support our team.
-
A Believer: You are deeply committed to men’s mental wellbeing and understand the life-changing power of a supportive community.
The Volunteer Role
Working closely with the Founder and the Board, you will be the "Face of MINDSET" for our growing team. You’ll design the volunteer journey, coordinate our expanding network of supporters, and ensure that as we grow across England, our core values of brotherhood and growth remain at the center of everything we do.
Why Join Us?
This is a chance to be there at the "Day One" of something massive. You will help shape the very DNA of MINDSET. You’ll gain incredible experience in community building and leadership, but more importantly, you’ll be the person who brings together the tribe that helps a father, a brother, or a son find his way back to health.
"A man’s mindset is the foundation of his future. Help us build the community that supports that foundation."
If you have the people skills to inspire and the heart to serve, we want to hear from you. Help us turn the tide on men’s mental health.
To empower men across England to take charge of their mental wellbeing and personal growth through connection, conversation, and community.

Join SUNSHINE as Our Communications Officer (Volunteer Role)
Help us spark joy, connection, and community across London — Be a SUNSHINE Volunteer and bring your Heart of Gold
Loneliness is one of the quietest challenges of our time, but at SUNSHINE, we believe in the power of people coming together to change that story — to break through the clouds with beautiful rays of warmth, belonging, and hope.
SUNSHINE is a brand new loneliness and wellbeing charity with a simple but powerful mission: to bring people together, spread joy, nurture community spirit, and create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected.
With our charity application submitted, our dedicated Board of Trustees in place, and a series of exciting pilot programmes ready to launch, we are stepping into a defining moment — and we’re looking for someone extraordinary to step in with us.
Could you be our first ever Communications Officer?
This is a rare and meaningful opportunity to help shape a charity from the ground up by crafting the voice, story, and public presence of a movement built on joy, connection, and community spirit.
We’re searching for a volunteer who brings:
-
A natural flair for writing, storytelling, and clear communication.
-
Creativity and confidence in shaping a charity’s public voice.
-
Experience with social media, newsletters, or digital communications.
-
Warmth, empathy, and a passion for community wellbeing.
-
A collaborative spirit and a desire to help SUNSHINE shine brightly.
As our inaugural Communications Officer, you will lead on SUNSHINE’s communications — ensuring our message is heartfelt, consistent, and inspiring across all platforms. You will help us reach people who need us, celebrate our volunteers, and share the stories that make our movement come alive.
What you’ll help us build
-
A warm, uplifting communications style that reflects SUNSHINE’s values.
-
Social media content that spreads joy and builds community.
-
Clear, engaging updates for volunteers, partners, and supporters.
-
Messaging for campaigns, events, and pilot programmes.
-
A public presence that feels human, hopeful, and community‑powered.
-
A storytelling culture that celebrates connection and belonging.
This is more than a role — it’s a chance to help write the opening chapter of a charity designed to brighten lives, strengthen communities, and inspire hope across London and beyond.
Why SUNSHINE?
Because we believe in:
-
Joy as a form of care
-
Community as a source of strength
-
Connection as a human right
-
People as the heart of everything we do
-
Stories as a bridge between us
If you’re someone who leads with purpose, loves crafting meaningful messages, and wants to make a real difference, we would love to meet you.
Ready to help us bring more SUNSHINE into the world?
Let’s build something beautiful together — one smile, one moment, one community at a time.
