Senior events fundraising manager volunteer roles

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is looking for a Trustee with senior fundraising, supporter engagement and income generation experience to join our Board.

This voluntary role is an opportunity to use your expertise to help shape the future of a life-saving charity. As a Trustee, you'll provide strategic oversight, constructive challenge and specialist governance, helping to ensure we can continue delivering critical care to people across the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

You won't be involved in delivering fundraising activity day to day. Instead, you'll work alongside fellow Trustees to scrutinise strategy, monitor performance, oversee risk and ensure our fundraising remains ethical, effective and aligned with our mission.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people with senior experience in fundraising, development, external engagement or income generation within the charity, social enterprise, public benefit or purpose-led sectors.

You will bring experience in:

· Fundraising strategy and income diversification

· Donor stewardship, supporter journeys and campaign planning

· Fundraising governance, compliance and ethical practice

· Board-level thinking, constructive challenge and sound judgement

· Building relationships and acting as an ambassador for a mission-led organisation

You will also share our mission, values, equity, diversity and inclusion, and Nolan’s seven principles of public life.

Time commitment

The Board meets at least four times a year, plus a strategy day. Trustees are encouraged to sit on two Board Committees, with additional contact usually taking place by email, telephone or Microsoft Teams.

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

At Women for Refugee Women, we support refugee and asylum-seeking women who have fled persecution to rebuild their lives on their own terms.

We have an overarching vision that women who come to the UK in search of safety experience a fair and compassionate asylum system and are supported to feel free, welcome and able to rebuild their lives. We currently work in three main areas:  

Power: To support women who have sought asylum to reclaim their power through opportunities to develop new and existing skills, access information and advice, and build confidence and connections. 

Influence: To amplify the voices of women who have sought asylum to wide audiences through research, events, creative projects, the arts, social media, print and digital media and other means of communication. 

Change: To support women who have sought asylum to influence public perceptions of refugees, and to challenge and change the UK’s asylum system so that it is fair and supportive. 

Role Description 

Time commitment 

• 2-hour quarterly Board meetings - plus pre-reading of Board papers.

• Annual strategy planning meeting (full day).

• 1.5-hour quarterly Finance & HR Committee meetings - plus pre-reading of papers 

• Ad hoc events (including launches, networking events). 

• Periodic support where needed (such as interviewing for senior candidates, offering advice to staff, etc.) 

Term 

An initial term of 3 years, renewable once up to a maximum of 6 years. 

Salary 

Trustee roles are voluntary. They are unpaid, though expenses incurred in the role will be reimbursed.

Role Purpose 

• To support Women for Refugee Women in delivering its vision, mission and values, ensuring strong financial stewardship and long-term sustainability 

• To ensure the Board fulfils its responsibilities in relation to financial oversight and governance 

• To provide strategic financial insight to support long-term planning and decision-making 

• To contribute financial and fundraising expertise to Board discussions and decision-making 

• To act as an ambassador for the charity 

Responsibilities 

• Ensure WRW operates in line with its governing document and all relevant legal and regulatory requirements 

• Fulfil the responsibilities of a trustee and company director, acting at all times in the best interests of the organisation 

• Contribute to the Board’s role in setting strategic direction, priorities and goals, and reviewing organisational performance 

• Work collaboratively with trustees and Co-Directors to support and guide the organisation’s work 

• Play an active role in Board and Finance & HR Committee discussions, bringing financial and fundraising expertise to support informed decision-making 

• Support strong financial oversight, ensuring the organisation’s sustainability and responsible stewardship of its resources 

• Work closely with the Co-Directors and relevant staff to review budgets, management accounts and financial forecasts, offering appropriate support and challenge 

• Help ensure strong and proportionate financial controls, systems and processes are in place and operating effectively 

• Support the Board in overseeing financial risk, reserves and long-term sustainability 

• Contribute insight into and, where appropriate, support the development of fundraising strategy and income generation 

• Support building financial understanding and confidence across the Board 

• Safeguard WRW’s values, reputation and commitment to the women it works alongside

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and respectful relationships 

Knowledge and Skills 

• Strong understanding of charity finance and financial oversight (gained through senior professional experience or equivalent) 

• Ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences 

• Understanding of fundraising and income generation, ideally with an appreciation of ethical and values-led approaches 

• Awareness of financial sustainability, risk and funding landscapes 

• Understanding of investment principles and oversight (including endowments or reserves), or willingness to engage with this area 

• Understanding of governance and the respective roles of trustees and senior staff 

• Awareness of data, digital and cybersecurity risks, and the role of trustees in supporting effective oversight (desirable) 

Experience 

• A background in financial planning, budgeting or oversight

Experience Required

You will be...​​

• Successful at fundraising and/or entrepreneurial experience​

• Able to deliver growth and change management in an organisation​

• Competent in difficult situations and with resolving conflict​

​Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the Board in its strategic and policy roles​

• Chair the Board and other meetings to facilitate positive discussion and development​

• Ensure the Board fulfils its legal and charitable responsibilities for the governance of the SPAB​

• Establish a constructive working relationship with the Chief Executive and Honorary Treasurer​

• Reviewing the performance of the Chief Executive and Board​

Key Tasks

• Campaigner: for the SPAB Approach and the conservation of built heritage​

• Strategist: implementing and refining the SPAB’s strategy for 2025-30 by responding to emerging opportunities and risks​

• Fundraiser: supporting the SPAB in fulfilling its fundraising needs​

• Networker: making connections and influencing at a senior level (not just in the heritage sector)​

• Publicist: raising the professional and public profile of the SPAB and its members in the UK and overseas​

• Teambuilder: developing Board members and staff​

• Organiser: facilitating Board processes and leading on improving governance practice​

What We Offer

• The Chair’s role is the most senior voluntary position within the SPAB​

• The postholder will have the opportunity to lead the UK’s oldest building conservation organisation into its 150th Anniversary year and beyond​

• The position of SPAB Chair is highly regarded within the heritage sector and elsewhere​

• The post is voluntary and unremunerated, but reasonable expenses can be claimed​​

 Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our collection box fundraising volunteers help our volunteer groups raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

 What we need from you

You’ll be:

· overseeing the collection and delivery of collection boxes in different locations

· recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters

· researching local areas for collection box ‘hot spots’

· sharing fundraising ideas with other volunteers and putting these into practice 

· sharing your passion for cat welfare and promoting the work of Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our collection box fundraising volunteers usually spend 1 to 2 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
