Who we’re looking for
We are looking to welcome a new Treasurer to our Board of Trustees.
To serve as one of Daybreak’s trustees is to play a fundamental role in enabling our charity to pursue its vision, mission, and values. Your contribution to discussions and decision-making at the highest level of our organization will ensure that we can continue to provide our services to those in need of our support.
In addition to the general duties of a Trustee, as Treasurer, your input will be critical to safeguarding the financial integrity and sustainability of our charity. You will ensure that appropriate financial measures are upheld and share your insights with the Board about the financial health of our organisation. Your experience will enable us to understand the obstacles we face and how we can navigate these challenges.
The role is more focused on strategy than detail. You will offer crucial guidance and support to management in developing a growth strategy that will allow Daybreak to reach more people and touch more lives.
There is no requirement for you to have experience as a Trustee. All we need is a willingness to use your skills and expertise to support Daybreak, a desire to make a difference for our service users, and a commitment to active participation in the role.
We would especially welcome applications from under-represented sections of society or those with experience of some of the issues facing our beneficiaries.
The time commitment involved is around thirty hours per year, though a wide range of opportunities to get involved in the Board’s work will be provided. Board meetings are usually held quarterly at our head office in Southampton, Hampshire or online.

Our partner is a growing NGO working to improve access to healthcare for underserved and remote communities in Uganda. As the organisation scales its programmes and funding, it is seeking pro bono support to strengthen its finance systems, reporting, and organisational foundations, ensuring they are robust, efficient and fit for future growth.
They are looking for an experienced finance or business professional to provide remote, hands-on support over an initial three-month period. The assignment will be delivered in two phases, starting with a review of current finance systems, workflows and reporting, and supporting leadership to clarify what “good” looks like for the organisation’s future systems. The volunteer will work closely with senior leadership and the finance team, helping to improve use of their existing accounting system, strengthen budgeting and KPI reporting, and reduce pressure on senior staff through clearer processes and controls.
Key areas of support may include:
- A finance health check, reviewing current processes, controls, workflows and approval structures, with a focus on identifying opportunities to streamline and reduce the administrative burden on senior leadership.
- A review of how Odoo is currently being used, with practical recommendations to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, and usability.
- Strengthening budgeting and budget vs actual (BvA) reporting, including alignment between budgets and the chart of accounts.
- Development or refinement of a small set of core financial KPIs that support internal decision-making for leadership and programme teams.
The work will be undertaken collaboratively, with a focus on practical, proportionate recommendations that can be implemented by a small team in a low-resource context. The finance professional will lead on refining the scope and deliverables, based on the initial findings.
Profile
This role would suit a finance or business professional with experience in finance systems, ERP/accounting tools, management reporting, and organisational design. Experience working with NGOs or in international or low-resource settings would be highly valued. The ideal volunteer will enjoy working alongside teams, sharing workload as well as advice, and translating technical concepts into usable solutions.
Time commitment
The assignment will be delivered remotely, requiring approximately 2–3 hours per week over an initial three-month period, with flexibility to extend depending on progress and availability. The preferred start date is as soon as possible in January.

About the role

The Chair sets the tone for constructive challenge, collaborative decision-making and exemplary governance culture. You will guide the Board in shaping the College’s long-term direction, scrutinising performance and driving continuous improvement, with a relentless focus on raising standards and safeguarding assets.
Working closely with the CEO & Principal, Rebecca Conroy and the Director of Governance, Belle Howard, the Chair provides both support and rigour, holding senior leaders to account, leading their appraisals and ensuring robust processes for the management of senior post holders. Between meetings, you will act on delegated authority, lead strategic planning activity and maintain proactive communication across the governance structure.

Age UK Hertfordshire (AUKH) is a large charity that every year reaches thousands of older people and their carers, and has a high level of recognition across the County’s statutory authorities, voluntary sector and the public. Our services – some developed and delivered in productive partnerships – include “active ageing” day clubs, help in the home, dementia support, befriending and in-touch telephone support, nutrition and dietetics service, hospital and community “navigation”, information and advice.
To build and grow from our current strong position, we need to expand our Trustee Board - to complement the skills of our present Trustees and broaden our Board’s diversity.
We welcome applications from all age groups and backgrounds, and we are particularly looking for legal skills.
In addition, the following areas of expertise are also welcome:

- communications and social media;
- building local stakeholder relationships;

Time commitment is one day per month during working hours.
