Our shops help raise lots of money for us. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do. As a volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus be part of an amazing team of volunteers.

There’s so much for you to get stuck into when volunteering in our shops. We have several different positions available.

Stock Sorting Assistant: We get lots of donations so you will be rolling up your sleeves in the back room where you will be receiving, sorting, and pricing donations, predominantly Bric-a-Brac, Books and Clothes, it's always exciting when one of our volunteers spots a real gem.

Furniture Store Assistant: The role will also include assisting with moving furniture around the store, assembling & dismantling beds, and other flat packed furniture, and getting to express your creative side, by making attractive room displays.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times.

No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need. But if you have any experience or particular interest tell us, it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started, if you're over 16 years old, just click on ‘Apply’ and get filling in your details!

Our shops help raise lots of money for us. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do. As a volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus be part of an amazing team of volunteers.

We are looking for a lively dynamic individual to promote the activities of Sussex Area Ramblers by regular communications with members and engaging with local media including producing press releases and responding to enquiries. 

The main purposes of the role are (1) to maintain regular communications with Sussex Area Ramblers’ members by producing articles for the Area Website and sending email communications to keep members up to date with Area activities, including developing a social media strategy and (2) to communicate (together where necessary with Ramblers' Central Office) with media in the Area, including by way of proactive press releases, and deal with media enquiries, to ensure that the activities and charitable role of the Sussex Area Ramblers are given a high profile

The Ramblers are Britain's biggest and most vibrant walking community. The Area Secretary is a key member of the Sussex leadership team, working with the Chair to ensure the team runs smoothly including managing meeting logistics and communicating with Groups in the Area.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

• Working with the Area Chair to arrange quarterly leadership team meetings, including producing agendas and booking the venue
• Organising the Area AGM, and producing the Annual Report
• Making sure that accurate records of decisions at meetings are produced and circulated on a timely basis
• Keeping in touch with Ramblers' Central Office, sharing news, including key communications, with the Area leadership team and Groups
• Welcoming to the Area new members of the Ramblers who live in East or West Sussex 
• As a member of the leadership team, contributing to decision-making on a wide range of issues in relation to activities across Sussex Area of the Ramblers

The Ramblers help everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. By volunteering as Area Secretary you will be paying a vital role in making sure we can achieve this. Running an efficient Sussex Area Ramblers leadership team is critical to the effectiveness of our organisation, and is part of the overall Ramblers governance. The Area Secretary is a pivotal position on the leadership team and ensures that we meet our obligations efficiently and effectively .

The ideal candidate is likely to have a passion for walking and the outdoors and a familiarity with the activities of the Ramblers and of the Sussex Area. The position is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, capable of taking initiative and with a track record of getting things done. You will need to be well-organised, good at building relationships with other members of the leadership team including the Chair, have fluent writing skills and be confident in producing agendas and decision records. You should be computer-literate and preferably have experience of using audio-visual meeting support equipment and desktop publishing software.

Join a Team that’s making a real difference, one cuppa at a time!

Create warm moments by serving delicious coffee, tea and tasty treats while sparking friendly conversations that brighten someone’s day.

Following the successful launch of our Hive in the Park Café at Rookery House, Erdington, on
1st May 2026, we are now looking for more volunteers to join our team.

Our current volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring valuable skills, experiences and enthusiasm to the café. Many had never worked in a café before, but with support they have built confidence through a mix of on-site shadowing with Hive in the Park Café team members and online training to reinforce their learning.

If you would like to join them, we are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who would like to assist us in the day to day running of the community café on the following days:

Mondays – either or both of 08:00–12:30 and 12:00-16:30

Fridays – either or both of 08:00-12:30 and 12:00-16:30

Saturdays – either or both of 08:30-12:00 and 11:30-15:00

What do I need?

· Basic kitchen, numeracy and IT skills

· A friendly, approachable attitude.  You will be part of a friendly, team and there will always be someone nearby to lend a helping hand.

· Good communication and teamwork.  Reliability and willingness to learn
(An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants).

Volunteers must be 18 or over. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer work experience placements. Due to the training and onboarding involved, including criminal records checks, we ask volunteers to commit to at least one shift each week for 9–12 months. Shifts are 4.5 hours, or 3.5 hours on Saturdays.

We can consider summer placements for adult students who can commit to 15–20 days. These days may be spread across your availability or completed within a 3-to-4 week period.

Client Support Volunteer - Lancashire

Information about the role

You’ll support people coming to Shelter for housing, benefit or debt help. This might involve giving them updates on their case, sharing information about local services, and supporting them with form filling.

Location: Shelter Lancashire Hub, Blackburn Central Library, Town Hall Street, Blackburn. Volunteering activity could be in the Hub or in our community settings.

Availability: Volunteering will take place within our Hub service hours of Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

Range of activities may include

• You will be able to claim reasonable volunteering expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy. Where financial circumstances would be a barrier to volunteering, we may be able to offer these funds in advance.
• You will be able to access our volunteer support package, including our colleague assistance programme and Shelter’s network of mental health first aiders.
