Volunteering in the shop
Our West Bridgford Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place to find out more about how we help older people in the local area.

Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us.

In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate.

We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work.

After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor.

You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores.

When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income.

You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about three hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. Once successful they will be invited to join our regular Network nights to get a taste of SJA whilst other checks are taking place and before moving onto a training course.

Are you a big football fan who enjoys playing football as well as watching it?

We are looking for volunteer football enthusiasts to both play football and enjoy talking all things football with someone with learning disabilities and or autism.  As a volunteer you will need to be able to volunteer for a couple of hours each week.

What does the role involve?

Our football volunteers will enjoy spending time having a kick about, perhaps watching a game on TV and perhaps having a post-match discussion. Trips to watch the odd live game would also be an enjoyable experience for the people we support.

As a Volunteer Cook, you will help people develop practical cooking skills, build confidence, and enjoy healthy, home-cooked meals. Your support can promote independence, social inclusion, and wellbeing while creating opportunities for people to learn, connect, and enjoy new experiences.

• Support people to prepare and cook simple meals and snacks.

Make a difference to the lives of rescue cats! We have a number of roles within our cat rescue based in York. 

Home visitors

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare & quality of life for the cats & kittens in our care.

Our home visit volunteers help us to assess each home environment and a families circumstances to ensure our cats are suitably matched to their new family. This is a vital step in our rehoming process to ensure our cats get the happy ending they deserve.

You can dedicate as much or as little of your free time to this role- picking up outstanding home visits as and when you can.

This role can also be done remotely (from home) if necessary or preferred.

Fundraising

We are looking for cat loving people with a little free time and lots of ideas to join our fundraising team!
 

This role includes all aspects of fundraising including organising and taking charge of ideas/ events with the support of the wider team and helping out at events. 

We need your help to raise much needed funds to support the work that we do and help give cats and kittens in need a better future. 

Fostering

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare and quality of life of cats & kittens in our care.

We are looking for people to join our wonderful supportive team of foster carers!

Transport Volunteers

We are always looking for transport volunteers to join our team. This role involves transporting animals, equipment and donations too and from various locations in and around the York area. We may also occasionally need help transporting cats and equipment from further afield. 

Job description

We need dedicated volunteers to work at our Hampstead store. If you have a passion for fashion (especially second-hand), amazing customer service skills and you are keen to learn new skills, then this opportunity is for you. As a volunteer you will also be involved in receiving, sorting, steaming, and pricing our lovely donations, serving at the till, and using your creativity to create displays around the shop. Training will be provided. As a volunteer, you will be helping to raise money for the Octavia Foundation and support the work we do in the local community.

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C is a pioneering Podcast/YouTube Channel and healing membership organisation. We provide a platform for survivors and whistleblowers to share their lived experiences, highlight systemic frustrations and offer solutions rooted in culturally trauma-informed care.

Our membership offers young people and survivors a path to heal, learn digital skills and interactively participate in our Alchemic 369 Book Club, where members engage in weekly interactive discussions, debates and critical analysis of African, Caribbean and world history, Ifa, classics and political thought. Members will sharpen their reading, reasoning and imagination skills, with opportunities to discuss works directly with authors, highly subsidised plant-based transformative retreats and join a community designed to empower and educate.

We are a mission-driven, collective-focused C.I.C building a movement that combines healing, re-education and empowerment.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and trustworthy Executive Assistant to support the Founder with the day-to-day coordination, administration, communication, and priorities of the CIC.

You will work closely with the Founder and senior team to keep meetings, projects, communications, and actions organised and moving forward.

This is an unpaid voluntary position for someone passionate about fighting CSA and supporting survivors across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the Founder’s calendar, meetings, appointments, and commitments.
• Support the Founder with emails, correspondence, reports, presentations, and briefing documents.
• Attend meetings, take notes, track actions, and ensure follow-ups are completed through Asana.
• Coordinate with departments, volunteers, partners, and external stakeholders on behalf of the Founder.
• Support the organisation of events, training, fundraising activities, and key meetings.
• Maintain organised digital files, shared documents, and confidential information.
• Help the Founder stay informed by gathering updates and highlighting key priorities and deadlines.
• Handle sensitive information relating to CSA, survivors, and organisational matters with discretion.
• Provide additional administrative and coordination support as required.

Ideal Candidate

• Passionate about fighting CSA and supporting survivors.
• Highly organised, proactive, reliable, and able to manage competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional, empathetic, discreet, and trustworthy.
• Confident working independently and directly with senior leadership.
• Comfortable using Asana, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Google Drive.
• Aligned with our values of truth, love, healing, justice, education, and empowerment.

Previous Executive Assistant, Personal Assistant, administration, or project coordination experience is beneficial but not essential.

Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.

These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.

We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.

You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for a flexible volunteering role to fit around other commitments. We can discuss potential rounds based on where you live and an appropriate distance to travel.
