To smash loneliness and social isolation through positivity, human connection, community and belonging — bringing SUNSHINE into people's lives.

You'll be helping us build SUNSHINE from the ground up.

1. HEAD OF VOLUNTEERING

We're looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused and organised volunteer to become our Head of Volunteering and help us design, build and lead SUNSHINE's Volunteer Programme.

You'll be the strategic lead for volunteering and work closely with our Founder to turn our vision for volunteering into a vibrant, welcoming and well-organised community.

YOU'LL HELP US:

1. Design and develop the SUNSHINE Volunteer Programme.
2. Build our volunteer recruitment strategy.
3. Oversee recruitment, onboarding and training.
4. Help create volunteer pathways and opportunities.
5. Lead and coordinate our Volunteer Leadership Team.
6. Help establish volunteer policies, processes and good practice.
7. Work alongside safeguarding and compliance leads.
8. Develop volunteer engagement and retention.
9. Build relationships with volunteer centres, community organisations and partners.
10. Help create an incredible SUNSHINE Volunteer Experience.
11. Monitor what is working and identify where we need to improve
12. Keep the Founder informed while taking ownership of day-to-day volunteering

YOU'LL HELP US:

1. Develop our volunteer onboarding journey.
2. Create engaging induction sessions.
3. Help develop volunteer training materials.
4. Coordinate mandatory training.
5. Support safeguarding and boundaries training.
6. Help volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities.
7. Support training around communication and participant engagement.
8. Track training completion.
9. Help volunteers through their first 30, 60 and 90 days.
10. Identify additional training and development opportunities.
11. Work with our Head of Volunteering to continually improve the volunteer experience.

These are flexible volunteer roles and the majority of work can be carried out remotely.

We'd love volunteers who can occasionally join us in person in Tower Hamlets and across Inner London, particularly for things such as:

The exact time commitment can be agreed around your availability.

Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

You can expect us to

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· help set up and/or man stalls at events

· help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

· help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances

· promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

At Rethink Mental Illness, we believe everyone deserves understanding, connection, and the chance to live a fulfilling life. Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting people affected by mental illness and helping create communities where no one feels alone. 

About the role  

As a Peer Support Volunteer you will have lived experience of mental health and support service users on a wide range of non-complex issues that can be easily and quickly resolved. You will bring added skills and experience to our service and add real value to our team. You will provide additional support at our Peer Support group sessions. This could be, for example, by empathising with potential clients about the difficulties that having a mental health problem can create, helping to set up the room, explaining the services that are on offer and how these can be accessed, putting people who are anxious at ease by welcoming them. Peer volunteers can also co-facilitate groups based on personal skills and experience. Ideally, you will be able to commit a minimum of 3 hours per week. 

Full training and regular supervision will be provided, so you’ll feel confident and supported in your role. 

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check, which will be arranged and paid for by Rethink Mental Illness. 

As a Peer Support Volunteer you will: 

• Support the Peer Support Workers to run the group sessions e.g. by helping to set up the room and by welcoming people 

• Help to create a safe space where people can share as much or as little as they wish to about their experiences 

• Foster the principles of co-production 

• Signpost people to services in the local area that meets their needs 

• Describe and explain services that are on offer from Rethink Mental Illness and other local community assets that can provide help and advice relevant to people's needs 

• Support the development of drop-in sessions at various locations across the locality 

About the service  

The Empowering Minds Gloucestershire Service currently run group sessions for service users across Gloucestershire. 

Our team is dedicated to delivering a high-quality service that focuses on supporting individuals to achieve their recovery goals. The aim is to improve the lives and support independence for those living with a mental illness. The team will engage with other local providers to ensure a clear and seamless pathway for those that require support from multiple providers. 

What will make you a great fit for this role?  

• Lived experience of mental health 

• Ability to support service users on a wide range of non-complex issues that can be easily and quickly resolved

Volunteer Branch Organiser

Across the UK, our local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Every year, our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests, designing and creating bespoke equipment free of charge.

As a Branch Organiser, you’ll play a key role in helping to make sure your local branch runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll recruit, welcome, and support volunteers, ensuring the team’s work meets the needs of disabled people in your area. You’ll bring motivation, leadership, and strong communication and organisational skills to the heart of your branch.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local needs shape what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of referrals in your area
• Organising and chairing the branch meetings
• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals
• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers
• Approving income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories and ensuring, with the Treasurer that our financial requirements and policies relating to branches are followed
• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe
• Acting as a key point of contact, maintaining regular communication between volunteers and staff.

The Retail Distribution Centre (RDC) is where donations are stored, sorted, cleaned and distributed to the shops. Our volunteers help with household items ranging from crockery, toys, small electrical items, pictures, as well as clothes, shoes and bags. You will become part of the team that will sort, prepare, and recycle donations for resale.
