Job description

One25 Outreach Service

Wednesday Morning Team Leader

One25 is a Bristol-based charity, specialising in supporting women to break free from street sex-work, addiction and other life-controlling issues and build new, independent lives. We provide nightly outreach sessions, a morning weekly outreach session, a Hub and casework, giving person-centred support and advocacy to around 240 women each year.

One25’s outreach service is often how women first make contact with us, meeting us on our fully equipped outreach van.  On the morning outreach a team leader and a driver go out on the van from 6 30am to 9am and meet women’s basic needs by providing food, first aid, warm clothing, condoms, safety alarms etc. They provide the chance to talk and get advice in a safe space and encourage women to get more in-depth help by visiting our Hub or seeing a caseworker.

We are looking for 2 volunteers to join our accelerated pathway to becoming a Van Team Leader for the morning outreach. Van Team Leaders are responsible for leading shifts on the outreach van, coordinating with One25 staff and external services, and making decisions in crisis situations.

Team Leader tasks will involve (but are not limited to):

  • Leading the briefing and debriefing sessions.

  • Ensuring the women receive a fair and consistent service

  • Being responsible for making decisions relating to safety on the van.

  • Feeding back to the Volunteer Manager.

This intensive programme is ideal for people looking to:

  • Make a genuine difference in the lives of society’s most marginalised women

  • Transfer experience gained in the public sector to the charity/non-profit sector/outreach

  • Gain experience in more relevant fields

  • Develop a further insight into the issues facing services users they may be working with professionally

  • Gain field experience after finishing a degree in a relevant field such as social care/emergency response etc.

This project will be for people who would like to gain transfer their skills and gain professional frontline experience in a charity that supports the most marginalised women. Or people just wanting to donate their time to and experitise to One25

(Please note: If you work in a service area we welcome your application but we may need to review whether a conflict of interest exists, and it is your responsibility to inform us if your employment or other volunteer roles change in a way that could create a potential conflict.)

The project will aim to train volunteers up into Team Leaders within 6 months. This will consist of monthly evening van shifts and 5 training sessions and regular support from the Volunteer Manager.

To apply for this programme you must have/be:

  • Able to commit to 1 nights per month for the training period, then a minimum 2 Wednesday mornings a month (6:30am to 9am) initial 6 months

  • Able to commit to all the 5 training sessions

  • Non-judgmental and compassionate approach.

  • Empathy and ability to actively listen.

  • Ability to be friendly, but professional.

  • Ability to take direction and learn from mistakes and progress in your role
