The British Canoeing Awarding Body (BCAB) plays a critical role in developing and assuring the highest quality, professional qualifications for the paddlesport industry. We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our voluntary Awarding Body Committee.

This is a fantastic opportunity for professional development – a chance to gain direct experience in the governance and compliance sector, even if you don’t have a paddling background!

The Role and Development Opportunity

As a Committee Member, you will play an essential role in:

• Upholding Regulatory Compliance: You will gain a deep, practical understanding of regulatory compliance as required by government bodies like Ofqual. This is invaluable experience for anyone interested in governance, quality assurance, or educational standards.
• Strategic Oversight: Reviewing and challenging papers on quality assurance, qualification development, and financial probity, ensuring the integrity and impartiality of all awards.
• Impartial Decision Making: Contributing to a transparent and objective decision-making process that guarantees the standards of all BCAB qualifications remain robust and credible.

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with a background in compliance and oversight, specifically those that may be qualified Lead Auditors or experienced Quality Assurers. 

Experience in maintaining high standards within a regulated framework would be highly advantageous.

Commitment

We are committed to making this role accessible:

• Meetings: The Committee typically meets 3–4 times per year.
• Format: The majority of meetings are held online (approx 3 hours) to minimise travel time.
• Annual Face-to-Face: One mandatory face-to-face meeting is scheduled each year, usually in July.
• Expenses: Reasonable travel expenses incurred for attendance will be covered by the Awarding Body.

We invite you to become a volunteer for our Talking Bubble Project!

Many older adults and vulnerable individuals from the UK’s Farsi-speaking community experience loneliness and isolation. One of our female befriendees is especially keen to improve her English skills and would benefit greatly from a supportive volunteer who can help her build confidence through regular, friendly conversations.

What is the Talking Bubble Project?

A phone-based service that connects volunteers with individuals who may feel isolated or lonely. Through regular calls, you’ll help build friendships, brighten someone’s day, and offer emotional support — in a way that’s sensitive to their cultural and language needs.

In this case, we are looking for a Farsi-speaking volunteer with a good command of English, so conversations can be held in English while using Farsi as needed to ensure understanding and comfort.

Age UK Hertfordshire (AUKH) is a large charity that every year reaches thousands of older people and their carers, and has a high level of recognition across the County’s statutory authorities, voluntary sector and the public.  Our services – some developed and delivered in productive partnerships – include “active ageing” day clubs, help in the home, dementia support, befriending and in-touch telephone support, nutrition and dietetics service, hospital and community “navigation”, information and advice.

To build and grow from our current strong position, we need to expand our Trustee Board - to complement the skills of our present Trustees and broaden our Board’s diversity.

We welcome applications from all age groups and backgrounds, and we are particularly looking for legal skills.

In addition, the following areas of expertise are also welcome:

• fundraising and income generation;
• financial management;
• communications and social media;
• building local stakeholder relationships;

User Voice is a charity led and delivered by people with lived experience of the criminal justice system. We bring together people impacted by the system with those who deliver its services, to co create transformative change, both in justice services and in people’s lives.

We are seeking an expert, creative Volunteer Digital and Social Media Lead. You will help us promote our programmes supporting people in prison and young people at risk of entering the justice system, as well as our Community Bike Shop, which funds and strengthens this work.

What you’ll do:

• Design and schedule engaging posts, stories, and reels across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more to grow our audience.

• Develop strategies for viral campaigns and collaborations to boost awareness and donations and share your expertise with our team.

• Analyse metrics (engagement, reach, growth) and refine tactics based on what resonates.

• Create eye-catching visuals using tools like Canva.

• Update our website as required and make suggestions for improvements.

• Work with our expert Trustee to consider how we can use online retail platforms to sell our refurbished bikes.

What we’ll provide:

· Creative freedom within agreed priorities and tone of voice.

· Access to the right tools plus shared photos, stories and impact stats.

· A named contact, light-touch sign-off, and occasional check-ins to remove blockers.

Time commitment: we’ll agree a realistic scope with the right volunteer based on their availability.

About us

UpCycle, works with individuals in prisons and young people at risk in marginalised communities.  We use bicycle maintenance workshops to help build life skills, enhance employability, prevent offending and reoffending, and foster social reintegration.  We also offer lead rides, bike fit-it sessions and other ways to engage with vulnerable people.

In prisons

· We delivered 956 un-refurbished bikes and received back 768 refurbished bikes across eight prisons and one Young Offenders Institution, training over 238 individuals.

In the Community

· Over 1034 bikes were donated to our Community Bike Shop, of those we refurbished and distributed more than 612 to underserved communities locally and overseas.

· Workshops in Bradford engaged 361 participants in diverse cycling-related activities across the area.

· "Bike to the Future" and other initiatives reached 220 young people with more complex needs.
