As a Meet and Greet Volunteer, you'll help create a warm, welcoming environment for people using our services. Offer a friendly chat, a listening ear, and support to help people feel valued, connected, and less alone. If you're empathetic and approachable, we'd love to hear from you.

What you will be doing

Greeting visitors, providing a safe and friendly environment, and “checking in and chatting” with service users.

Offering beverages to our visitors while maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and service areas.

Provide emotional support, active listening, and mental health assistance to individuals in distress.

Ensure the environment is safe, maintain accurate records and adhere to safeguarding, food hygiene and GDPR

East London Rape Crisis provides a range of support services to women and girls affected by sexual violence; including an Information & Support service, counselling, advocacy and group workshops

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our team.

Our volunteers support women through our Information & Support Services, providing emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual violence, their friends, family and other professionals via telephone and email support. There are also opportunities to support the team with administrative tasks that do not involve direct contact with survivors.

You will get:

• Be available for one of the below interview dates and all of the below training dates
• Be able to commit to in person volunteering for 4 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months
• Be able to commit to attending monthly team supervision. This currently takes place on line on the first Monday of each month from 18:00- 19:30pm (includes training and development opportunities).

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

Our Retford Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

What is a Caseworker?

Caseworkers visit clients to work out what type of support they need. You will listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help those serving, who have served and their families to navigate life in and beyond military service. Some examples of support are securing funding for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. We’d love the general public to understand what we do and how they can help us.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical, and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but you can complete the administration part of the role from home as long as you have access to IT equipment and the internet.

What would you be doing?

• Contacting beneficiaries and arranging to meet them at a mutually convenient time.
• Meeting beneficiaries and completing a form to assess their circumstances, using good communication skills, empathy and understanding.
• Sign-posting clients onto local services providing specialist advice.
• Applying for funding on the behalf of the beneficiary through a specific process and system  
• Arranging for the purchase of goods and services
• Keeping the beneficiary informed of their case progress.
• Liaise with the branch and regional office, regarding your availability.
• Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support clients.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
• Adhering to SSAFAs policies and procedures at all times, including safeguarding, volunteering policy, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – confidentiality and boundaries, personal safety, caseworker training, and caseworker IT system training. The caseworker training takes 3 days and a further half a day for the other training.
• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
• Access to a range additional e-learning courses as well as local opportunities for your personal and professional development.
• Local induction including assigning a person from the team who will be your main point of contact.
• Regular opportunities to meet and share best practice with other caseworkers.
• Range of support from central and regional volunteer operations team.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable with good listening skills, patience, and a positive attitude.
• Good communication skills both written and verbally.
• Respectful and non-judgemental approach with beneficiaries, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues
• Willingness and ability to use IT systems for initial and on-going training and to enter cases on the Casework Management System. Willingness and ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address which you will be required to use when exercising your role.
• Ability to make enquires on behalf of beneficiaries by phone, email, letter or by filling in forms.
• Ability to keep within boundaries of the role with regards to friendship or giving advice
• Reliable, prompt and trustworthy.
• Access to public transport or a car to travel to appointments with clients.

We started as a feminist collective in 2010 growing into Trafford Rape Crisis and then becoming TRC Sexual Abuse & Rape Support Greater Manchester, supporting women all over Greater Manchester.

SARA (launched 2026) evolved from that vision, thanks to all the women and supporters who came before us. Our founders understood that sexual violence doesn’t happen in isolation. It intersects with race, disability, poverty, sexuality and gender identity. So, our support must reflect this reality.

We exist to support survivors of sexual violence through trauma-informed care, advocacy, and community connection. 

We’re a feminist organisation providing counselling, helpline support, Independent Sexual Violence Advocacy (ISVA), community support and digital resources for women affected by gender-based violence. We believe in putting people at the centre of our care, meeting them where they are.

While we dream of systemic change, our primary focus is providing the specialist support survivors need right now – from early support to long-term healing, from practical advocacy to building supportive communities.

The Greater Manchester Women’s Support Alliance is seeking new trustees to join our Board, including a Chair and Treasurer.

The Alliance brings together organisations across Greater Manchester that provide specialist support to women facing issues such as domestic abuse, homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use and social exclusion. By working collaboratively, we strengthen services, share expertise and ensure that women’s voices are represented in policy and commissioning.

We are looking for individuals who share our commitment to improving outcomes for women and who are interested in contributing to the strategic leadership and governance of the Alliance.

We welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds and experience. In particular, we are interested in hearing from individuals with experience in areas such as:

130 Primrose is a charity restaurant in Primrose Hill using hospitality as a vehicle for change- recruiting, training and employing people with lived experience of homelessness.

In just 12 months, we’ve already supported individuals into paid work, qualifications, and long-term employment pathways. Now, we’re entering an exciting growth phase, with ambitions to scale our model to new sites and reach significantly more people. 

We’re seeking a Strategic Finance Trustee to join our board and help guide this next stage- bringing commercial insight, financial clarity, and strategic challenge as we grow.

About the Role

This is a strategic, non-operational trustee position for a senior finance leader who can translate financial insight into clear, practical decision-making.

You’ll work closely with the Chair, CEO, and Board to ensure our model is financially sustainable, scalable, and impactful- supporting both our social mission and our trading activity.

Our model combines earned income (restaurant operations) with social impact, making financial leadership a critical lever for success.

What You’ll Do

• Support the Board on financial strategy, planning, and risk oversight
• Challenge and refine forecasting and cashflow planning (12–36 months)
• Strengthen financial visibility (P&L, balance sheet, cash) for operational teams
• Advise on unit economics, including menu margins, labour model, and cost control
• Improve budgeting, KPIs, and scenario modelling to support growth (e.g. new sites)

homeWe're flexible around your schedule, just a few hours a week can make a big impact! Out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed, if agreed in advance, and you’ll have a dedicated Volunteer Manager to support you throughout your journey with Julian House.

Our Gardener Volunteers support our homes by helping to maintain their outdoor spaces through weeding, pruning and planting, so that the people we support can enjoy spending time in a beautiful environment. 

We are currently looking for volunteer gardeners for one of our services, who can support with the following tasks:

• Create planters

• Provide general maintenance of our gardens

• Watering, planting, weeding and pruning

• Maintaining flower beds

• Creating/improving/maintaining our sensory garden spaces

Skills required 

In order to become one of our gardener volunteers you will be:

• Knowledgeable about plants

• Confident using gardening equipment

• Punctual and reliable

• Friendly and approachable.

Training required for this role (all delivered vis e-learning)

• Safeguarding

• H&S

• Manual Handling

• How to be Eye Care Aware

• Fire Safety

• Infection Control

• Data Security and Confidentiality

• First Aid

All these courses will take approximately 40-60 minutes, apart from the First Aid which is 2 hours.

Registered as The Royal School for the Blind, SeeAbility is one of the oldest disability charities in the UK. This year we are celebrating our 225th anniversary, having pioneered specialist support across multiple generations since 1799!

We specialise in supporting people who have learning disabilities, autism, complex needs, who may also have sight loss. Our support ranges from providing person-centred support across our many supported-living and residential care provisions. Furthermore, we provide specialist eye-care services to children and adults alike and assists people to find paid employment for the very first time.

We’re Mind, the leading mental health charity. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.

Our volunteers are a fundamental part of our shops. Any time which they volunteer at our shops, help us be there for more people who are experiencing a mental health problem. 

About the volunteer role

To provide our volunteers with opportunities to gain a variety of skills and experience, we offer them a range of volunteer roles to choose from, which include:

• Stock preparation volunteer
• Volunteer shop sales assistant
• Volunteer stock generation assistant
• Volunteer window dresser/Merchandiser
• Specialist knowledge volunteer (antiques and collectables)
• Specialist knowledge volunteer (books and entertainment)
• Housekeeping volunteer

Key tasks

There is a variety of tasks within the above mentioned roles that our volunteers get involved with, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers with their purchases, providing them with great customer service and a delightful shopping experience
• Receiving donated items from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated items for sale
• Creating visually appealing window and in-store displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, clean and coordinated
• Processing sales and serving at the till
• Signing up gift aid donors
• Stock rotation
• Identifying special or valuable items within donated stock
