We connect people to local conservation action through storytelling and community campaigns.

Why your contribution matters

Local community groups are doing extraordinary things to help nature recover in Aotearoa New Zealand, but they often don’t have the time or skills to share their stories. As a result, the wider public often doesn't see their incredible work, and people who could get involved aren’t aware of what’s happening around them.

Conservation Amplified is a New Zealand-based charity on a mission to “Make Conservation Mainstream” by partnering with the people who are helping nature and bringing a megaphone to their work.

We share their stories online and make it easier for people, particularly younger adults, to take a first step into community conservation. We want conservation to be a place where people find friendship, purpose, joy and fulfilment. A third space.

Your creativity and content creation skills can help bring them in. By working with Conservation Amplified, you are helping to accelerate positive change for our environment and the communities supporting it.

Whilst we are currently focused on Aotearoa New Zealand, our long-term goal is to take this model to the world.

What you could work on

We’ll match projects to your strengths and interests, and we welcome your ideas and input. Here are some examples:

• Turn People Helping Nature Podcast interviews into engaging reels and carousels.
• Edit short videos from our New Zealand community conservation campaigns and international expeditions.
• Create posts and captions that make useful ideas worth sharing.
• Experiment with new concepts, angles, formats and trends to reach fresh audiences.

Instagram is our priority. We also post on Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn.

Desired traits

• Loves the environment and nature.

Requirements

• Knowledge of how to use Canva and Instagram Edits or equivalent tools.
• Cellphone/computer and internet access.
• Not required: Conservation knowledge and experience.

What you’ll gain

• Room to develop your content creation skills with meaningful projects and collaborations, and use published work in your portfolio.
• Access to original interviews and field footage, from threatened wildlife and local conservation projects to our international expeditions. We work with many key people from conservation orgs restoring native habitats and protecting endangered species, including kiwi, kōkako, penguins, whio, kea, and more.
• The opportunity to be part of a team driving positive change by making conservation more visible and accessible - especially for younger people who are underrepresented in this space.
• Opportunities to join in-person conservation activities if you’re around or visiting the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.

How we’ll support you

Work directly with Callum Armstrong, our co-founder and an experienced content marketer, with clear briefs and feedback. Riverside access is available for podcast projects, and Canva Pro is available if needed.

You can join weekly team catch-ups or stay connected asynchronously through meeting notes, email and WhatsApp. We work in New Zealand time and welcome volunteers worldwide.
