We’re looking for a Treasurer who wants to join our friendly and committed Board of Trustees to support and develop the work of Maa Shanti.

About Maa Shanti

We offer practical support, advocacy, emotional support, and activities tailored to the needs of South Asian mothers. Services are available in person, online, or in a blended format, and the team speaks Bengali, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi to ensure culturally sensitive engagement.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities: 

• To oversee, approve and present all yearly budgets, quarterly and annual accounts and other relevant financial statements.
• Review budgets, accounts, and financial statements in advance of Board meetings.
• Present regular reports on the organisation's financial position.
• Advise fellow Trustees on a regular basis of the financial status of the charity, and where necessary, recommend action.
• Ensure the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements with regards to financial matters.
• Maintain sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the agreed budget and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.

Time Commitment

• Quarterly Board meetings (which are currently held online).
• 2 away days a year. In addition to Board meetings, there will be some ad hoc work support required in between meetings.
• Overall estimated time commitment is 1 day a month.
• Remote/hybrid working offered if needed.

What are we looking for?

You do not need previous governance experience to join the board. We will provide an induction an ongoing support. 

Skills and experience: 

• Practicing finance professional (i.e. Accountant, Finance Manager, Finance Director).
• Ideally you will have charity finance experience.
• Ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board.
• Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
• Enthusiasm for the work of Maa Shanti.

· Ensure compliance with the governing document, charity law, and other applicable laws.

· Act in the charity’s best interests, making balanced and informed decisions. Contribute to the Board’s strategic direction, policy-setting, and goal definition, including performance evaluation.

· Provide guidance based on experience, supporting new initiatives.

· Ensure effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

· Monitor Maa Shanti’s financial, strategic, and operational performance. 

In addition to general trustee responsibilities, we're particularly interested with in candidates who have the following skills:

· HR

· Charity Governance

· Legal expertise (family law/immigration)

Time Commitment:

Established in 1948, Caxton Youth is the only specialist youth club in the City of Westminster dedicated to learning-disabled and autistic young people aged 11–25. We provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community where young people can build friendships, explore new interests, and develop the skills needed to lead independent, happy, and healthy lives.

We aim to break down disabling barriers in society by offering youth-led services shaped by the aspirations of our members. Our approach is person-centred, providing a mix of 1:1 support and inclusive group activities to help each individual reach their own goals.

Our core delivery centres on weekly youth club sessions held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at our Westminster base. These sessions offer a vibrant mix of sports, cooking, arts and crafts and music, providing a safe space for young people to socialise and explore new interests. To ensure these opportunities are accessible to all, we provide dedicated community transport via a wheelchair-accessible minibus for our activities.

Beyond the club, we run dedicated programmes designed to foster independence and emotional well-being. These range from mastering essential life skills, such as preparing hot drinks and navigating public transport independently, to improving mental health by building self-esteem and social connections through initiatives like our “Mates Dates” outings. For our older members aged 16–25, we offer targeted employment support, including CV writing, interview preparation and assistance in securing volunteering or training opportunities.

Our impact extends into the school holidays with a comprehensive provision of day trips and overnight residentials at outdoor activity centres, allowing members to experience nature and adventure in an accessible environment. These services not only empower the young people but also provide vital respite and a local support network for parents and guardians, knowing their children are in a safe and supportive environment.

Through the power of youth work, we co-create safe, inclusive spaces where learning disabled and autistic young people can take part in accessible activities driven by their needs, wants and interests.

About the role

We seek to appoint a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership and strong governance, ensuring Caxton Youth Organisation delivers its mission and uses its resources effectively.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, the Chair will guide the board in setting direction, maintaining financial sustainability, managing risk and ensuring robust systems, policies and procedures are in place. A clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to youth leadership will be central to the role.

Leading a high-performing board of trustees, the Chair will foster collective responsibility and sound decision-making in Caxton’s long-term interests. They will chair board meetings effectively, support trustees to fulfil their governance duties and oversee succession planning for the board, Chief Executive and senior management team. In partnership with the CEO, the Chair will also ensure effective board composition, trustee recruitment and ongoing development.

Externally, the Chair will act as a credible ambassador and advocate for Caxton, building strong relationships with partners, funders and key stakeholders. Drawing on their networks and influence, they will help open doors to funding, partnerships and decision-makers, ensuring youth issues remain a priority.

The successful candidate will be deeply committed to Caxton’s mission, able to see the bigger picture and lead with authenticity, tact and diplomacy.

They will bring board or committee work experience, along with strong influencing and negotiation skills, resilience and a collaborative, organised approach.

We are seeking someone with experience in leading an inclusive organisation through a period of growth or change and/or with significant fundraising expertise.

You will bring a collaborative leadership style and act as a constructive, critical friend when appropriate.

Visible and engaged, you will work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, acting as a key ambassador for the charity and supporting the staff team to raise its profile and secure new funding to ensure the sustainability of its work.

Time Commitment

There are four board meetings and four committee meetings a year and the Chair leads at least one strategy away day per year. You will also attend other internal and external meetings where necessary, including regular 1:1s with the CEO.

You will be required to be available for 3 – 5 days over a month for this role.

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Are you a qualified Yoga Instructor who would enjoy facilitating weekly sessions to help individuals with their general well-being. This is an opportunity for you to share techniques with others. We are looking for a volunteer who is available on Thursdays at 12pm!

What you will be doing

• Design session plans enabling all group members to increase fitness, suppleness and help them relax
• Teach the group yoga postures and breathing techniques which allow a range of mixed ages and abilities to participate
• Inspire and motivate people to attend and get involved in the group activities where possible and encourage the group to help design future sessions
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback and report any concerns to the staff team

Are you a fluent Farsi speaker with a passion for helping others? We are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist women in improving their English language skills. Improving someone’s understanding and spoken English language, will allow individuals to communicate and connect with people in their local community, widen their network of friendships and relationships, and provide people opportunity to improve their employability skills. We are looking for a face-to-face volunteer for a minimum of 1 hour per week who is available between hours 11am – 2.30pm Monday-Friday!

What you will be doing

• To support individuals who are not confident with spoken English to develop their reading, writing and conversational skills through one-to-one sessions.
• Agree a mutual agreeable time and frequency that works for both parties
• Engage in conversation, allowing the person to feel supported and comfortable to practice speaking English Preparing and delivering sessions independently including setting work and assessing
• To keep records of conversations and update the support worker on progress of sessions.

We’re seeking compassionate people like you who meet the following:

• 21+ years old and
• Ideally, live within 45 minutes of our sanctuary.
• Able to safely transport rabbits to vet visits or meet-and-greets.
• Provide a secure, clean, and loving home—indoors or outdoors.
• Ideally, have experience with rescue rabbits.
• Committed to fostering long-term.

Foster Carer Responsibilities:

• Daily Love & Care: Feed, groom, and socialise your foster rabbits, giving them the warmth and attention they deserve.
• Attending appointment: Bring your rabbits to the sanctuary for vet visits or adoption meet-and-greets. Urgent vet trips may be needed if your foster becomes unwell.
• Stay Connected: Share updates and photos to help us track their progress.
• Follow Their Plan: By following each rabbit's tailored care program, you ensure they have the best chance of success.

Kidney Research UK’s Lay Advisory Group are currently looking for a new lead. In this vital and rewarding role, you would help ensure that people affected by kidney disease influence all aspects of our work. As lead of the Lay Advisory Group, you would have a key role within the charity championing the involvement of patients to transform kidney health and presenting patient views at our trustee board meetings.

The Lay Advisory Group helps drive and strengthen patient and public involvement (PPI) within Kidney Research UK and provides opportunities to influence change externally to help transform kidney health. This is a senior volunteer role and will provide effective leadership for the Lay Advisory Group and its work.

After leading the group for five successful years, the current lead is stepping down, so we are looking to appoint a new lead.
