Transparency International is a global movement sharing one vision: a world in which government politics, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.

Transparency International UK is the UK national chapter of this movement. Our work with the British government, parliamentarians, and the private sector plays a critical role in tackling corruption at home, addressing the UK’s global corruption footprint and helping multinational companies prevent corruption by operating with integrity. We are also home to two major global programmes tackling corruption in the Defence and Security sector and Global Health on behalf of the wider Transparency International movement.

We are currently looking for two trustees who can add to the diversity of our decision making. We are particularly looking for skills and experience in charity governance; strategic international programming; and the strategic use of big data and artificial intelligence. Your expertise may also include skills from lived experience of dealing with corruption, or that help us better understand Britain’s role in facilitating global corruption or ensuring across the UK that we adapt to the corruption risks in the devolved governance structures in the nations and regions.

Role of Trustees / Board members

The Board are principally accountable to members of TI-UK, the Charity Commission and the TI movement and they also ensure that the activities of the charitable company meet public benefit expectations. The employees are a key stakeholder group and the Board actively engages with them on governance matters and in sharing decisions taken.

The broad areas of the work of the Board include:

• Strategic direction, ensuring that we are responding to the changing external environment across programme areas
• Performance, monitoring the performance of the executive against strategic and operational plans; including programme delivery
• Assurance, contributing to the identification and monitoring of risk. Ensuring there are adequate short and longer term financial plans in place to deliver the strategy. Adhering to the highest standards of charity governance.

The skills and experience that the Board draw upon include:

• Anti-corruption expertise
• Government and business policy setting
• Legal / regulatory / financial / audit / risk

The skills and experience we are looking for contribute to the diversity of the Board as a whole. We recognise that no candidate will have all this expertise or qualities and that you may have had less opportunity to demonstrate them. Appointment

The term of office is for three years. Reappointment is for a maximum of three terms (nine years cumulative). Board members are eligible for appointment/re-appointment by the members of TI-UK at their AGM.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role but all reasonable expenses are paid. As the movement has Chapters in more than 100 other countries, we are only able to appoint individuals who are permanently resident in the UK. 

Time Commitment

• The Board meets at least four times a year generally between 12 noon and 5:30pm on a weekday
• A day-long Trustee and Senior Leadership Team Away Day occurs each year
• Meetings are scheduled a year in advance to ensure maximum attendance
• Papers are available electronically one week before each meeting
• Board members are expected to be a member of at least one Committee (Finance, Risk & Audit, Research, GTNI (global programmes), or Nominations & Governance) with these meeting at least two times a year during working hours.
• Additional time will be required to be on hand for advice on an ad hoc basis either to the Board or the Senior Leadership Team and to attend occasional events.

Face-to-face Board meetings of all Trustees are encouraged and these are held at the TI-UK office in central London. Trustees can be based outside of London and contribute virtually.

Trustees are invited to attend supporter engagement and fundraising events as well as learning events. 

What the role offers

We recognise that this role can help secure non-financial rewards including contributing to the charitable sector and providing the role holder with opportunities to grow and develop their leadership aspirations and to enhance confidence as a Board member/Trustee.

Experience

It is not necessary to have previous board or committee experience, although applicants should have regard to the role description above. Where learning and development support may be required this can be highlighted in the application process.

Specific sector experience of Anti-Corruption and Bribery is not essential.

We are looking for volunteers who can spend some time with our clients  in and around Central London, specifically Chelsea, Pimlico, Barnes, Tower Hamlets. and other areas.  Locations change often as new referrals come in, so if this is something that interests you, please get in touch and tell us where you are based as we may have other clients in your area. 

 Meetings are regular weekly or fortnightly, for at least 6 months although most of our volunteers stay involved for much longer than this, only because they enjoy what they do! 

Befriending is a simple way to make a positive difference to someone who spends a lot of time alone or is socially isolated.  Your gift of time and companionship will give them, and you, something to look forward to. As one of our volunteers once said,“this is an easy, very meaningful way to help someone and is immensely rewarding and fun!”  

Your meetings could be in the local community, having a chat in a coffee shop, visiting places of interest together, or in our client’s home.Our clients are older Scots, aged 60  plus who simply want to do the activities that most of us take for granted.

We provide training before you start, ongoing support once you are matched, out of pocket expenses, references, social events and newsletters. 

This could be the ideal opportunity  for you to gain practical experience of working with adults in a health and social care setting, or for anyonewho simply enjoys meeting new people and making their lives a little brighter.

London City Mission serves the church of London in sharing the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ with the communities least likely to hear the Gospel.

One in three people don’t have a Christian friend to invite them to church, open a Bible with them, or tell them the good news of Jesus. We want to see that change. The poor areas of London are incredibly diverse, in fact London is the most ethnically diverse in the world, growing at over 100,000 people a year. The world has come to London – we long to see the Gospel taken to the world by working alongside churches to visit homes and go out into the streets of London with the good news of the Gospel.

Our monthly team gatherings are full of testimonies of how God is working amongst the communities least likely to hear the Gospel, and our deep conviction is that much more needs to be done – and can be done – at this urgent hour for London.

We are seeking to make up to five appointments; a mixture of Trustees (likely time commitment: 10-12 days a year) and Independent Sub-Committee Members (likely time commitment: 4 days a year). Individuals who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Safeguarding – someone with safeguarding expertise who can provide strategic oversight, ensure robust policies and reporting procedures, and champion a culture of safety across the organisation.

HR - someone with HR expertise who can support organisational people practices, strengthen workforce policies, and provide strategic insight on recruitment, performance, and staff wellbeing.

Fundraising – someone with fundraising expertise who can guide income-generation strategy, strengthen donor relationships, and support LCM to diversify and grow its funding base.

Property – someone with professional property expertise who can advise on asset optimisation, and support strategic decisions regarding sales, leases, and maintenance.

We are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to assist our Client Service Administrator on Reception in hosting our busy reception area and friendly waiting room. In this role, you will use your excellent interpersonal skills to welcome clients and visiting professionals and other volunteers to the Helen Bamber Foundation, making them feel comfortable, attending to any immediate needs they may have, assisting them with their queries and notifying clinicians and other staff of their arrival.

You will be at the heart of an exciting, team of experts working as a representative of the Helen Bamber Foundation and the first point of contact for our diverse range of clients and visitors.  You will be a self-motivating team player, organised, efficient and have a compassionate mind-set. 

Main tasks and activities

• Greeting clients and ensuring that clients are having their immediate needs met;
• Ensuring the reception is well-presented;
• Answering the phone and responding to a wide range of enquiries;
• Maintaining the shared Outlook calendar and co-ordinating room allocations;

Become a Remote Text Service Volunteer 

Self Injury Support has been supporting people affected by self-harm, trauma, and distress for almost 40 years. Our wonderful team of Listening Service Volunteers provide valuable, non-judgemental support that makes an important impact on the lives of those who contact us. 

We’re currently recruiting home-based remote volunteers across the UK for our text service, with the likelihood of the role extending to helpline support in the future, and to become part of our friendly, like-minded community. 

Our next training block will take place remotely over four days: 28th Feb, 1st March, 7th March & 8th March from 10am til 4pm each day. Please note that attendance on all four dates is required to complete the training.

Every quarter, you’ll meet a group of your peers to discuss volunteering and have a safe and confidential space to reflect on the work. 

Who can volunteer?  

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and life experiences. You may have your own experiences of self-harm or mental health challenges or be keen to learn more about how to support others through these experiences.  

You don’t need previous listening or counselling experience, just an open mind, a commitment to the role, and a willingness to learn.  

We're looking for anyone who wants to offer meaningful support, who can listen with empathy and an understanding that everyone’s situation is unique. We're keen to recruit volunteers who are flexible, adaptable, and open to new learning experiences.  

What happens now?

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and highly professional CSR and Corporate Engagement Coordinator to help us build meaningful relationships with companies that share our values.

This role is ideal for someone who understands corporate social responsibility and corporate partnerships, and who enjoys creating a clear plan, prospecting the right organisations, and making warm, well-targeted approaches that lead to long-term supporters.

What you will do

• Create a simple, realistic CSR and corporate engagement plan aligned to our charity’s priorities
• Research and prospect companies that are a strong fit (values, location, ESG and CSR themes, staff networks, giving mechanisms)
• Identify the best route in (decision makers, community teams, CSR leads, foundations, staff networks)
• Prepare outreach messages and partnership propositions (for example: sponsorship, staff fundraising, payroll giving, match funding, volunteering, in-kind support)
• Working with our Operational Director, you will make and manage initial approaches, follow-ups, and relationship building in a professional way
• Keep clear records of activity, contacts, and next steps in a tracker
• Work with the Operational Director to shape partnership offers and ensure a consistent voice and messaging

Essential

• Strong experience in CSR, corporate partnerships, business development, or corporate fundraising
• Confident in creating and delivering a prospecting and engagement plan

You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.

What you’ll be doing:
• Giving talks to groups of people to raise awareness of sight loss in your local community by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local businesses, community and voluntary groups.
• Delivering Talks to raise awareness of RNIB services as a trusted source of support for blind and partially sighted people

• Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.

What you’ll be doing:
• Giving talks to groups of people to raise awareness of sight loss in your local community by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local businesses, community and voluntary groups.
• Delivering Talks to raise awareness of RNIB services as a trusted source of support for blind and partially sighted people

• Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service

You’ll be supporting people to come together in a group setting, to benefit from each other’s company, knowledge and encouragement, leading to reduced isolation, stronger networks of support, and new friendships. You can support with either local and regional telephone groups or face-to-face groups.

• Creating a warm and welcoming environment.
• Supporting group conversations.
• Assisting with group activities (if appropriate).

Are you a good listener? Are you able to manage group conversations and ensure people feel comfortable together and that groups run smoothly? We need you to facilitate our weekly telephone groups that offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to socialise with others.

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline or mobile phone We ask you to commit to between 1 and 3 hours per week to facilitate Talk and Support befriending groups which will be at the same day and time each week. Each group runs for an hour.
