This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to get involved in an impactful charity making a tangible difference to the lives of refugees here in the UK.

Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.

A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:

• 91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys

• 84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services 

• 93% report better physical and/or mental health

Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.

About You and the Role  

You don’t need to have experience of being on a Board, in fact the role would be ideal for someone considering taking on their first role as a trustee. We will work with you to understand your duties and support you.

You will, however, have an excellent understanding of charity finance and understand the unique set of challenges charities of our size face in delivering impact and ensuring financial resilience. You will be an excellent communicator – able to provide constructive feedback and scrutiny at the same time as helping the team to articulate financial information to others who may not have a finance background.
 
You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive and this role plays a key role in supporting the wider board to fulfil its financial responsibilities.

You will work together with the board and wider staff team to set our strategic direction and improve our work with refugees. At the heart of everything we do is the real and immediate impact a bike makes to the lives of those who have been through so much. You will be part of us achieving that.
 
The time commitment for a trustee generally totals approximately 8 hours per month. Please see the role description for further details.

The Community Ambassador Volunteer role is a flexible, people-focused role where you'll represent MumsAid at local events, community fairs, business engagement opportunities, and awareness-raising activities. We’re not going to sugar-coat it, things aren’t great for working parents and pregnant women. It can feel frustrating and a bit depressing at times, but by being part of the Pregnant Then Screwed volunteer team, you get to turn that frustration into something positive. In the last year the fantastic volunteers on our Advice Line have spoken to over 5000 women and parents, collectively providing around 40 hours of free support and advice every week. Hundreds of women and parents call our Advice Line every day, but with a small team of volunteers we are only able to answer a fraction of those calls—this is where you come in.

We are looking for brilliant HR professionals who want to help Pregnant Then Screwed tackle the Motherhood Penalty by becoming a Volunteer HR Advisor.

Our Volunteer Advisors give around 1-2 hours a week of their time to the Advice Line. They use their HR knowledge to offer a kind, empathetic support and advice to help people to identify and challenge pregnancy and maternity discrimination in the workplace.

Time Commitment

The Advice Line is open Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm, with various available shifts during those times. We ask volunteers to give 1-2 hours per week on the Advice Line for a minimum of three months.

Main Role Purpose

The Advice Line HR Advisors play a vital role in providing support and guidance to working parents facing unfair treatment or discrimination in the workplace via our advice line. Volunteers will offer advice, listen empathetically, and provide information about employee rights and available resources. This role is critical in empowering parents to make informed decisions and navigate workplace challenges effectively.

Essential requirements

• Minimum CIPD level 5 Diploma in People Management with one professional reference.
• Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and policies related to pregnancy, maternity leave, and discrimination.
• Access to a mobile phone/laptop/tablet to receive calls. You will not be charged for calls and your number will not be shared.
• Access to a reliable and secure WIFI connection. Public WIFI is not suitable for this role.
• Excellent active and empathetic listening skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
• A kind and welcoming telephone manner.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming phone calls to the PTS Advice Line from individuals seeking support and advice.

Alfriston Outreach Service is dedicated to helping older and vulnerable people in Kingston. We provide services such as Hot Lunch delivery, Shopping, and Laundry delivered into people’s homes, with our aim to support older people to remain independent in their own homes.

Mind in Kingston supports people with mental health issues and raises awareness within Kingston and surrounding areas. We provide training, supervision, and opportunities for career development. 

Volunteers are extremely valued within our team and a vital part of our service delivery. Pregnancy Sickness Support is a registered UK charity working to improve care, treatment and support for those affected by nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) and the severe form of the condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). For many people this is one of the hardest and loneliest parts of pregnancy. Our social media is often the first place someone finds out they are not alone.

We are looking for a creative  Social Media Volunteer to help us tell that story well. You would help shape warm, accurate and engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X, and, if it interests you, help us explore and launch a presence on TikTok. Most of your creative work would be in Canva, using our templates and brand.

What the role involves

• Creating warm, accurate posts and simple graphics in Canva that share support, information and lived experience across our channels
• Helping plan and schedule content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X
• Helping us explore and launch a presence on TikTok, if that is something you would enjoy
• Keeping an eye on comments and messages, replying kindly to straightforward ones and passing anything sensitive or distressing to the staff team
• Spotting awareness days, campaigns and moments that matter to our community and suggesting content for them
• Sharing simple updates on what is landing well, so we can learn what our audience values

About you

You do not need to be a marketing professional. We are looking for someone who cares about our cause, writes clearly and warmly, and can handle a sensitive subject with care. As a Hospital Liaison Volunteer, you'll support people during their hospital stay, helping them stay connected to treatment and recovery services. You'll offer encouragement, build confidence, and help individuals access the support they need as they prepare to leave hospital.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Visit and support individuals in hospital.
• Provide encouragement and emotional support.
• Help people engage with treatment and recovery services.
• Assist with discharge planning and follow-up support.
• Encourage the use of local recovery and community resources.
• Work alongside hospital staff and partner agencies.
• Help people identify goals and build confidence for recovery.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to service improvement.

What We're Looking For

• Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental approach.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds.

As a Harm Reduction Support Volunteer, you'll play a vital role in reducing the risks associated with drug use by providing advice, information, and practical support. You'll engage with people in services and the community, helping them stay safe and access the support they need.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Provide non-judgemental advice on substance use and harm reduction.
• Support needle and syringe provision services.
• Promote overdose awareness and provide Naloxone information and training.
• Encourage HIV, Hepatitis and other health testing opportunities.
• Engage with people in community settings and outreach activities.
• Signpost and refer individuals to treatment and support services.
• Help maintain a safe environment through safe disposal initiatives.
• Support service improvement through feedback and engagement.

You'll help create a warm, welcoming environment, provide practical support, and play an important role in helping people feel comfortable as they begin their recovery journey.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Welcome visitors and provide a friendly first impression.
• Support reception with enquiries and appointments.
• Help service users complete registration paperwork.
• Signpost people to support services and community resources.
• Assist with telephone calls relating to housing, benefits, and other needs.
• Issue food parcels and vouchers where appropriate.
• Help keep reception and client areas tidy and welcoming.
• Promote recovery, involvement, and positive engagement.
