 Volunteering with Victim Support in Essex

As a Volunteer in Essex your role will include:

• Supporting victims of crime affected by hate crime, fraud, burglary, harassment.
• Gaining experience in supporting victims to overcome the effects of crime.
• Liaising with the local police, housing and other appropriate agencies.
• Attend area specific events such as Community Volunteer Service events, Vol Fest, Pride and partner events.

What do we ask of you?

In order to join us as a Service Delivery Volunteer, you must:

• Be 18 years of age or over.
• Be able to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week, for at least 12 months.
• Undertake training over a 10-week period – this includes five virtual training days as well as completing a workbook and online learning modules.
• Undertake a DBS check & be part of the DBS update service.
• Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

Expenses

• All Victim Support volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering, including travel and lunch.

• Organising and attending events and meetings to raise our VS profile
• Engaging with our local communities to inform them about crime and our work
• Gaining experience in planning and organising events and delivering presentations.
• Working in partnerships with local Community Voluntary Services (CVS), universities and other local partnership organisations.
• Representing Victim Support at CVS events, university events, pride events and local fetes.

What we ask of you?

In order to join us as a Community Engagement Volunteer, you must:

• Be 18 years of age or over.
• Be able to volunteer for at least 2-4 hours per month, for at least 6 months.
• Complete a 3-day workbook.
• Undertake a DBS check where required
• Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

We are seeking two new members to join our trustee board's Grants Committee. While this is not a trustee role, committee members will be part of a collective decision-making process to ensure that our limited resources are reaching organisations providing advice to those most underserved. Grant applications are initially reviewed by our staff team. The role of the Grants Committee is then to critically review the recommendations made by the team and make decisions about how and where funding is awarded. The Grants Committee and our Board of Trustees have the final say on where our funds are allocated.

• Ensuring the welfare, safety, and development of all cadets and volunteers
