Central England Law Centre provides specialist legal support to clients in Coventry and Birmingham. We use our legal expertise to improve the lives of those who are often vulnerable and socially excluded due to poverty, illness or disability.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for up to three Trustees to join our Board. We are seeking applications from individuals who represent a range of backgrounds, and especially those with an interest in how embedding a knowledge of rights within communities can help reduce inequalities and challenge unfair systems, ultimately empowering people to live better lives.
As a member of our Board, your purpose is to work with other Trustees to form an effective governing body which holds the Law Centre senior leadership team to account for its work, providing leadership for all activities and performance of the organisation.
Alongside your fellow Trustees, your responsibilities will consist of:
- Shaping and agreeing the strategic direction of the organisation
- Monitoring and evaluating performance with the objective of fulfilling the Law Centre’s vision, mission and aims
- Safeguarding the Law Centre’s reputation, vision and mission
- Ensuring that the Law Centre remains financially stable, and is managing its assets effectively in pursuance of its objectives
- Overseeing compliance with all relevant legislation including employment, company, charity and health and safety law
- Ensuring all work is conducted within the framework of the Law Centre’s Memorandum and Articles of Association
- Assuming legal responsibility for the Law Centre’s staff and volunteers
- Acting as employer of the Law Centre’s staff
In undertaking these responsibilities, we would look to you to:
- Prepare for and attend trustee meetings (1 main Board meeting per month, plus any meetings of sub-committees which you opt to join)
- Understand and be fully committed to the vision, mission and aims of the Law Centre
- Lend your specific expertise either for one-off advice and projects or to work on a sub-committee
- Support all decisions following agreement by the Board
- Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality on all Law Centre matters

St Luke's Hospice have an opportunity for an experienced Trustee with an income generation/finance/business management background to help make a positive contribution to the work we do for patients and families within our local communities.
What will you be doing?
If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, we have an opportunity for you to join our Trustee Board to make a positive contribution to the work we do. St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cares for people in mid & south Cheshire who are suffering from life limiting illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to patients and their families.
We undertake an annual audit of the skill mix of our Trustees to find the right blend of experience and expertise to support the work of the Hospice through their support for the Senior Management Team. We look for Trustees who have the dedication, commitment and desire to improve our services and help us to achieve our strategic goals in line with our ethos and values.
We would be happy to receive applications from someone, whose responsibility as a Trustee will be to overview all Income Generation at St Luke’s. This role will include being a Director of the Promotion and Trading companies which look after the hospice lottery and our retail shops. Someone with experience of managing income generation, working collaboratively and with business management and finance (including P&L) knowledge would be desirable for this position.

Trustee positions are un-remunerated although reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid. This role offers a person the chance to make a valid contribution to a respected community organisation, is a great opportunity for professional development, exposure at Board level and the chance to support the development of local services.
Appointment to the Trustee Board will be subject to standard checks, including satisfactory references and DBS check
What are we looking for?
Each year the Hospice undertakes a skills mix audit to identify the key skills required to support the SMT in the day to day running of the Hospice.
The most recent audit has identified the following skills as essential to support the SMT and create a balanced trustee board able to make knowledgeable and effective decisions:
- Experience in managing income generation.
- Experience in working collaboratively.
- Experience of Business Management.
- Experience of Finance including P&L.
What difference will you make?
This is a vital role within the Hospice and will contribute to ensuring patients and families within the community receive safe, well-led compassionate care. It will also be a key role in ensuring good financial governance alongside supporting our strategic goals, particularly in relation to the generation of income for the Hospice.

We are a new organisation forged from two ambitious charities: Fight for Sight and Vision Foundation. Our single, unifying mission is to save sight and change lives.
It is a mission that reflects two urgent questions everyone faces when they receive a diagnosis of sight loss: ‘How do I stop this?’ and ‘How do I live my life?’

THE MERGER
Fight for Sight funds breakthrough research and life-changing services to build a more equitable future for blind and partially sighted people by accelerating breakthroughs in multiple sight loss conditions.

OUR FUTURE
Our principal role is as a grant-maker. We award grants to the scientific community that could lead to scientific breakthroughs and treatments to stop eye diseases from progressing. In the future, we believe research can prevent people from losing sight and reverse sight loss. We invest to advance treatments that will cure eye disease and protect and grow the community of world-class scientists, technologists, and data scientists who can deliver tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Historically, Vision Foundation has funded innovations that directly impact people who are blind or partially sighted, from music classes for children to projects that take eye tests into at-risk communities. We invest in programmes, organisations and activities that deliver equity for and with blind and visually impaired people.
As a grant-maker, we are change-makers, accelerators and drivers of impact. We are bold, energetic, challenging, disruptive, tenacious, and determined.
We aren’t afraid to tackle the challenges facing the sight loss community, either. Recent campaigns include The Unseen, which unearthed the shocking scale and nature of domestic abuse among blind and partially sighted people, and See My Skills, which addressed high unemployment rates. The charity excels at working in partnership with others towards creating a more equitable society for the sight loss community.
As we progress, we’ll scale the impact of projects like these, look beyond the nation’s capital, and drive systemic change. We’ll need to secure the funds to invest in our trusted partners to achieve our ambitions. We’ll continue to fundraise by engaging with supporters and companies through legacies, events such as the London Marathon, and our network of charity shops.
The evidence we commission influences policy and decision-making to demand equality for all.
We’ll shortly have a new name that reflects our united ambitions, so it’s an exciting time for us and the people we serve.
OUR FINANCES
The charity is in a strong position financially, with a high level of reserves that we intend to draw down over the coming years as we focus on investing in sustainable growth and increasing our impact. Compared to many charities, we
have well diversified income streams, predictable costs, and are in the fortunate position to hold a sizable portfolio of investments. Our plans for the short and medium term are to invest in our income generation infrastructure, and to significantly increase the amounts of funding we can put to our charitable purpose.

Fight for Sight / Vision Foundation is the only organisation in the sight loss sector with an Executive Leadership Team that has over half of its members with lived experience of sight loss.
The Board currently numbers ten trustees, including our newly appointed Chair.

As the most senior leaders in our charity, trustees play a pivotal role in guiding our strategic direction, amplifying our impact, and ensuring the fulfilment of our mission to save sight and change lives. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the charity, aligning efforts with the mission and values of the organisation.

Governance
- Ensure effective governance, decision-making, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Work closely with board members, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, collaboration and open communication, harnessing different views and opinions.
Engagement
- Represent the charity at public events and networking opportunities to promote our mission and raise awareness about our cause.

Evaluation and Accountability
- Collaborate with the board to evaluate performance, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and objectives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Specialist experience
At this time, we are particularly interested in candidates who have leadership experience in:

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Remuneration
This role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although reasonable expenses may be claimed.
Time commitment
While the exact time commitment may vary based on the charity’s needs and priorities, we anticipate the following general expectations:
- A minimum of four Board meetings per year
- Up to four subcommittee meetings per year (the specific committee depending on skills and experience)
- Preparation for meetings, review of materials, and other trustee engagement as appropriate.
- Annual Strategy Day with full Board and executive team.
- Meetings with members of the executive leadership team as appropriate.
- Representing the charity at high profile events, functions and public engagements to enhance its reputation and partnerships.

Managing risk and enhancing trust and confidence in policing
The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley and the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police (TVP) are seeking an exceptional individual to join their Audit and Risk Committee known as JIAC (Joint Independent Audit Committee).
This is a unique opportunity managing risk in England’s largest non-metropolitan police force, at a time of strategic growth and change.

In recent years JIAC has looked at how TVP improves critical processes including, ensuring safety in custody; ensuring fairness in interactions with the public; conducting thorough investigations with the right justice outcomes; managing cyber and information risk as well as engaging in the full breadth of financial control.
As a JIAC member, you will act as a “critical friend” bringing challenge in a constructive way. It is a stimulating and interesting role, and an opportunity to contribute significantly to society.
Candidates are required to be over the age of 18, and live or work in the Thames Valley area and be able to attend meetings at TVP Headquarters, Kidlington during the working day. The successful candidate will be subject to a police vetting check. Serving police officers or police staff are not eligible for this role and members must be politically neutral.

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) serves people who want to handle conflict well without using or suffering violence, whether physical or psychological. Our trained volunteer facilitators deliver intensive, low-cost, conflict-resolution skills workshops in the community, in prisons and in other settings. We reach diverse communities, attracting people from across a wide spectrum of ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic backgrounds.
What will you be doing?
The overall role of the chair is to lead the Board as it sets strategic direction and oversees the good governance of the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation is following correct governance and meeting its charitable obligations.
This is an active role, where time will need to be invested regularly outside of meetings to support this small charity.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the Chair include the following:
• Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes to provide greater public benefit
• Chairing and facilitating board meetings
• Giving direction to board policy-making
• Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented
• Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate
• Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making
• Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting
• Organise & run board and other general meetings
• Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning
• Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive to achieve this
• Working closely with paid stuff to ensure charity stays on track vs it's objectives
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual who will be committed to AVPB cause and has the following skills:
• Leadership skills
• Experience of committee work
• Tact and diplomacy
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Impartiality, fairness and ability to resolve differences
It would be a significant advantage if you have experience of chairing a trustee board or comparable body. (e.g Chair of School Governors, Parish or Town Council Chair etc). Also advantageous would be a background in health or social care.

Mainly at home, or remote opportunity.
All our board meetings are currently held online. We can occasionally gather for an annual event.

Mostly outside office hours

Term
Our trustees’ roles have initial term of three years, with the possibility of renewal for further 3 years.
Remuneration
The role of the Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration.

ROLE SUMMARY
The Chief of Staff is a brand new position at Youth Mix and plays a crucial and key role in ensuring the smooth running of operational activities by being the liaison between the volunteers and the CEO on all operational matters.
The CEO is currently heavily involved with the operational staff and projects. The team is growing, and the work is expanding. Therefore, we are looking for a self-motivated volunteer who is an excellent communicator, is great with people, a good problem solver to support the CEO and be a crucial link and coordinator between the CEO and the rest of the operational team.
This is a senior role and reports directly to the CEO. In this new exciting role, you will:

Act as a liaison between the staff and the CEO regarding the company’s project updates, processes as well as volunteers’ well-being;

Meet with the charity's senior team for business updates, supporting with challenges and escalating to CEO as appropriate;

Attendance at bi-monthly trustee meetings if required

Assist, communicate and support volunteers and Young Leaders throughout the decision-making, program management and initiative implementation stages;

Continuously improve the company’s ongoing processes and develop procedures to ensure compliance, optimal efficiency and productivity;

Design, review and improve the organisation’s structure (as appropriate) and address or escalate to the CEO ongoing problems

Cover reasonable requests from the CEO

Build good relationships with volunteers and Young Leaders

Work with the CEO on succession planning; and

Assist with reporting e.g. gathering multiple projects and progress reports and compiling them into one organisational reporting pack.

Harrow Food Bank is part of the Trussell Trust - a network of over 1300 food bank centres in the UK. Between April 2022 and March 2023, food banks provided almost 3 million food supplies to people in crisis.
