As Volunteer Company Secretary, you will be the "conscience of the charity," ensuring that our Trustee and Executive Team operates within its legal and regulatory framework to ensure our beneficiaries receive the highest standard of care and support. 

This is a vital role at the heart of the charity’s operations and offers the opportunity to help shape the governance of a high-impact charity. 

You will provide the bridge between the Board and the executive team, contributing directly to the Trust’s mission by underpinning strong governance and accountability at Board level. By ensuring compliance, transparency, and well-run meetings, you will support the Trustee and executive team to make informed strategic decisions that enhance opportunities, independence, and wellbeing for adults with neuro-disabilities. 

You will:  

• Manage our core administration, ensuring governance and compliance documents, records and processes are kept up to date; including managing filings with Companies House and the Charity Commission, and managing the conflicts of interest register.
• Support the Board and CEO with meeting management; helping to prepare agendas, minutes, board packs and maintain a robust rolling action log.
• Ensure good governance, keeping us aligned with legal and regulatory requirements; always advising best practice and updating the board on the Charity Governance Code.
• Support the Trustee onboarding process, helping us to stay structured and efficient. 
• Be the organisational backbone, helping Minstead Trust to stay steady, safe and well run.

Trustee (People and Human Resources)

The charity Citizens Advice Lewisham (CAL) is a member of the national Citizens Advice (CitA) organisation. We deliver free, impartial and confidential advice to those who live, work or study in the London borough of Lewisham.

We are a highly engaged board who are passionate about ensuring our charity makes a big difference to Lewisham residents, especially to the most vulnerable people. Role focus for this appointment

This role is aimed at candidates with senior human resources and people leadership experience. We are particularly interested in individuals who can bring strategic insight into workforce planning, employee and volunteer engagement, people policy, organisational culture, inclusion, safeguarding and people-related risk.
 

What will you do?

• complete an induction for your role

• maintain an awareness of how the local Citizens Advice is operating

• read papers for board meetings and attend 4 meetings per year 

• depending on your skills and experience, work on specific projects with other trustees or staff within the local Citizens Advice and the Citizens Advice network, including people-related projects, to further strategic objectives

• Provide thought leadership in areas agreed with the Chair, particularly people strategy, human resources, workforce planning, volunteer engagement, equality, diversity and inclusion, staff wellbeing and organisational culture.

• Act as a senior people and human resources voice on the Board, offering strategic challenge and support on governance, risk, safeguarding, organisational effectiveness and employment practice.

• Take an active part in discussions during board meetings and work with other trustees to: 

• Contribute to setting policy and strategy direction, set targets and evaluate the performance of the local Citizens Advice within the quality assurance frameworks set by the network

• ensure that the people related policies, strategies and processes work effectively  for recruitment, retention, development, wellbeing and turnover of staff and volunteers

What do you need to have?

You don’t need specific qualifications but you’ll need to:

• understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee

• be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own

• have good listening, verbal and written communication skills

• be able to exercise good independent judgement

• have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the treasurer

• Senior human resources or people leadership experience, ideally in a charity, public sector, not-for-profit or values-led organisation.

• A strong grasp of charity governance, people-related risk management, employment practice and strategic planning.

• Confidence reading management information and contributing to Board-level discussions on workforce, culture, safeguarding, wellbeing and people-related risk.

• be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection

• be willing to undertake annual mandatory training in your role

How much time do you need to give?

Trustee boards usually meet in the evenings to accommodate the needs of trustees, and you’ll likely need to give a few hours a month to read papers and support the board. Additional time may be required for committee work or specific projects. You may need to attend other meetings if you’re involved in specific projects, or meet with volunteers and staff occasionally within the local Citizens Advice. We can be flexible about the time spent, so come and talk to us.

The Vavengers Co-Chair designate

The Vavengers has recently transitioned to a Co-Chair approach to better support our small but dedicated team, and in recognition of the heightened risk of isolation and burnout in small charities. This dual-leadership model allows the Co-Chairs to prioritise staff well-being and offer more robust, active support to The Vavengers staff.  Our Co-Chairs and CEOs work as close partners, using frequent, informal check-ins to ensure rapid decision-making and a collaborative culture.

One of our Co-Chairs will step down in the coming months; therefore, The Vavengers is seeking a new Trustee to join the Board and step into the Co-Chair role.  A full handover will be provided.

The Co-Chair will:

• Co-led the Board of Trustees, planning and chairing meetings, setting agendas and ensuring all trustees contribute to effective and inclusive decision-making

• Ensure the Board meets the highest standards of governance and compliance in line with charity law and Charity Commission requirements.

• Lead the board in setting the charity’s strategic direction and monitoring implementation of The Vavengers ' 3-year strategic plan, which was launched in July 2025

• Support the CEO, acting as a critical friend and leading the CEO’s annual appraisal process.

• Represent the charity in external forums, as directed by the CEO

The ideal candidate will bring integrity, diplomacy and emotional intelligence to this Co-Chair role.  They will have previous Board experience, ideally as a Chair or Vice-Chair and a strong understanding of charity governance and the distinction between governance and operational management.  They will have a proven ability to build strong relationships with the CEO, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders.  They should have experience in navigating risk and uncertainty at the organisational and sector level.  They must be committed to building an open, collegiate co-leadership relationship with their Co-Chair.

Time commitment:  The role involves working with your Co-Chair and CEO to prepare and deliver 4 Board meetings per year, regular check-ins with the CEO, routine check-ins with Trustees, a strong partnership and open communication with your Co-Chair to divide tasks and ensure The Vavengers team is supported.  One Board meeting per year will be in person.  All other Board meetings will be via Google Meet. 

The Vavengers Treasurer

We are seeking a Treasurer to join the Board and oversee financial governance. The Treasurer will:

• Provide strategic financial support to the CEO

• Establish and chair a new Audit and Risk sub-committee

• Monitor financial performance, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance are in place and advising on risk.

The ideal candidate will be a senior finance professional with strong experience in governance, audit and risk. Candidates should be comfortable operating at the Board level, providing constructive challenge and communicating financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues. Knowledge of charity finance and the SORP would be an advantage, but is not essential.  

A full handover will be provided by our current Treasurer, who is stepping down in the summer. 

Time commitment:  The role involves Board meetings 4 times per year, Finance Committee meetings 4 times per year and some ad hoc support between meetings.  One Board meeting per year will be in person.  All other Board meetings will be via Google Meet. 

The Vavengers, Legal Trustee

We are seeking a legal trustee for the Vavengers Board.  The legal trustee will already have or will be willing to develop a strong understanding of charity governance and will be eager to grow and amplify the charity’s significant public advocacy work.   

The right candidate would bring professional legal experience from one or more areas relevant to our work, which may include human rights, immigration and asylum, media and communication, employment and equality, defamation, risk management, compliance and data protection.  Experience in charity law and governance would be an advantage, but is not essential.

A full handover will be provided by our current Legal Trustee, who is stepping down in the summer. 

Time commitment:  The role involves Board meetings 4 times per year, with additional meetings should the Trustee join one of the charity’s committees.  Some ad hoc support may be required between meetings.  One Board meeting per year will be in person.  All other Board meetings will be via Google Meet.

The Trustee Treasurer plays a key role in supporting the effective financial governance and sustainability of The Quilt Association. Key responsibilities

As a trustee, you will contribute to the overall development and oversight of organisational strategy. You will be responsible for ensuring the organisation operates in line with its charitable objectives and governing documents, including risk management and compliance with relevant regulations. You'll safeguard the long-term sustainability of the organisation, including financial stability and act as an ambassador for the organisation. As a trustee, you'll also have the opportunity to be involved in the care, conservation, and accessibility of the quilt collection. 

As Treasurer, you will:

• Support the Board in overseeing the financial affairs of the organisation and ensuring that effective financial controls and procedures are in place

• Help ensure that QA operates in line with its governing documents, charity law, company law, and financial regulations

• Work with the Chair, Secretary, and any relevant staff to prepare and present clear financial information to the Board

We provide a full induction and training to everyone who joins as a trustee, and we also encourage interested parties to attend a boardmeeting before joining so you can see how we work.

Commitment from you

Being a trustee is an official duty as they have joint legal control of the charity and are ultimately responsibly for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. The CGD Society is also a registered company in England & Wales, so our trustees are also directors for the purposes of company law.We expect the following of all of our trustees, committing around one hour of time per week:

1.To attend our board meetings, which occur via video conference every two months. 2.To keep in touch via email, through an official email address that we will provide for you, at a minimum of once per week.

Our board meetings occur 6 times a year, usually on a weekday evening, and we provide an agenda with reading material two weeks in advance. We ask all participants to read this material and come prepared with comments and questions. Every input is welcomed, debates are encouraged, and all views matter.

We try to host one meeting per year - our Annual General Meetingor AGM - in-person at a central location, to provide an opportunity for our team to meet face-to-face. We cover all travel expenses for trustees to attend these in-person if they are able to.

We also encourage our trustees to engage with one of our subcommittees, which are smaller groups overseeing specific areas of our work, such as our nursing service or financial governance.This is optional, as we recognise that not all of our trustees can spare the time to participate.

SHASBAH is in need  of a  Volunteer Treasurer to help continue our 60 year old charity and ensure smooth running of the charity finances while providing the  trustee board and staff with appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the charity including organising annual accounts. 

A Treasurer maintains effective governance of the organisations affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper processes and procedures exist for assuring all financial records, decisions and delegations are maintained. Ensuring  our mission statement is being fulfilled. SHASBAH charity has trustees with a range of skills and lots of lived experience and has a small staff team. 

The Treasurer role will include:

•  Ensuring  that all accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies including Charity Commission.

• Providing guidance and reviews of financial grants, loans and investments. 

• Recommending to our trustees and staff appropriate accounting procedures, controls and policies.

• Becoming a joint account holder and signatory. 

•  Working in close partnership with the Director of services in executing their responsibilities and achieving the charity goals.

• Ensuring that appropriate financial policies are in place. 

As a Treasurer you will be required to provide monthly updates on the charity finances to the trustees and attend quarterly meetings via zoom or in person. Approx 8 hours a month in total.  All are welcome to attend any events or meetings.

Sexpression:UK provides high quality, comprehensive relationships and sex education workshops to young people between the ages of 11-18 in schools and youth groups. We operate across the UK through our unique network of affiliated branches and volunteers based at universities and students’ unions in 15 towns and cities.

You will have strong empathy with our mission to educate and empower young people to make individual, informed decisions about their bodies and their health. You will be committed to using your expertise to contribute to the future development of the charity and ensuring high quality governance of the organisation.

We are looking for a motivated individual with demonstrable experience in leadership or governance to join our board as Chair of Trustees.This is an exciting time to join our charity with the opportunity to contribute to a unique youth-led charity playing a leading role in some of today’s biggest issues.

We are looking for our next Chair of Trustees – someone who will work closely with our Executive Team and Board to guide the organisation through what is both a challenging and genuinely exciting time. The funding environment is tough. The political context is difficult. And yet the need for what we do has never been greater.

This is an unpaid voluntary role. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.

The successful candidate will lead a vibrant, well-established, national charity as it navigates the next chapter of its story.

Main tasks

• Developing and setting our future strategy, alongside the Executive Team and other Trustees
• Helping shape and deliver our future, identifying opportunities in an evolving landscape
• Leading the Board of Trustees, including regular 1:1s and providing space for reflection
• Acting as a 'critical friend' to our Executive Team, as well as formal line management to the CEO (and COO in their absence)
• Acting as an ambassador for the charity – raising awareness of what we do and engaging potential supporters and other key stakeholders
• Responsibility, along with the other trustees, for the governance of the charity
• Contributing to the ongoing strategy of the charity, in line with our charitable objectives
• Participating in board meetings and sub-committees in an inclusive and thoughtful way
