Roles:  Co-Chair (HR /Employment Law expertise) ·  Trustee

Time Commitment:  Co- Chair around 1-2 days a month: Trustee – 1 day a month: Quarterly Board meetings, plus sub-committee meetings

Where:  In person Enfield, Barnet or Online via Teams

Term:  three years, renewable

Pay:  voluntary, with reasonable expenses paid

About us

Mind in Enfield and Barnet (MiEB) is a local mental health charity, part of the Mind federation. Every week our staff and volunteers support local people through advocacy, talking therapies and counselling, crisis support, wellbeing courses, our Recovery College, and support for parents and families.

We work alongside the NHS, our two local authorities and voluntary sector partners across North Central London, with a team of around 60 staff and 60 volunteers and an annual turnover of around £2 million. Our values – Integrity, Empowerment, Compassion, Equity and Real Change – shape everything we do, from a first conversation with someone in distress to decisions in the boardroom.

As a trustee, you'll help set that direction, hold us to it, and make sure we stay well run, financially secure and true to our values.

The roles

Co-Chair, with HR and employment law expertise

You'll lead the Board in partnership with our existing Co-Chair and work closely with our Chief Executive. Together, you'll help ensure strong governance, maintain a clear focus on our charitable purpose, support and appraise the Chief Executive, and continue to build a skilled, diverse and inclusive Board. You'll also act as an ambassador for MiEB locally and across the Mind federation.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and our strategy is rooted in creating a compassionate, empowering and inclusive workplace. We are therefore seeking a Co-Chair who is a highly experienced senior HR or employment law professional, with a strong track record of advising organisations at a strategic level on people, culture and workforce matters.

You may be, or have been, an HR Director, Chief People Officer, Head of Employee Relations, organisational development leader or employment lawyer. You'll bring valuable insight to Board discussions on people strategy, organisational development, organisational change, leadership, culture and employment matters, helping to ensure MiEB remains an effective, inclusive and values-led organisation.

You'll bring:

• Significant senior-level experience in HR, people leadership or employment law.
• A strong understanding of workforce strategy, organisational culture and good employment practice.
• Experience of advising boards, senior leaders or committees on strategic people matters.
• Up-to-date knowledge of the employment landscape and evolving people practices.
• Sound judgement, integrity and the ability to provide supportive and constructive challenge.
• The leadership, diplomacy and collaborative style needed to co-chair effectively and build consensus.

A connection to Enfield or Barnet, and an understanding of the voluntary, community, health or mental health sectors, would be welcome.

Trustee

We'd love to hear from people who can add to the Board's mix of skills. Experience in any of these areas would be especially welcome: finance, fundraising and income generation, governance, digital and innovation, marketing and communications, service delivery and quality, or equity, diversity and inclusion.

Who we're looking for

For every role, you'll share our commitment to mental health and our values, and be able to analyse information, ask good questions and challenge constructively, while working as part of a team. We'd particularly welcome:

• people with direct or indirect lived experience of mental health problems
• people from Global Majority communities
• people who live in, or have strong links with, Enfield or Barnet
