Who we are

It takes a village to raise a mother and child, but what happens when the most essential part of your village isn’t there? 

For 1 in 3 new mums, they are facing motherhood without their own mum due to death, estrangement, dementia, physical absence, or a complicated relationship. 

The impact? An entirely different experience of motherhood emotionally, practically and mentally. 

What we're hearing on the ground
95% of motherless mothers feel isolated. 85% say pregnancy or early motherhood reopened their grief. 80% are experiencing mental health difficulties such as anxiety or depression. Postnatal depression is 3x the national average, 5x higher in the US. (Source: The Hidden Crisis of Motherless Mothers, The Motherless Mothers and Peanut, October 2025). 

This is why The Motherless Mothers exists. Motherless mothers often feel unseen, misunderstood, and unsupported. But we're here to change that. Our mission is to provide the support and representation that every motherless mother needs when they need it most. Because this experience deserves recognition, research, support and language.

What we're looking for 

A fundraising professional with experience, passion and drive to grow this movement. In just under two years, we've made huge waves to take this experience out of the shadows and to give it a voice. From speaking in UK parliament, huge collaborations with reputable brands like Peanut and cardfactory, inaugural research into the mental health repercussions women without a mum face, and research to embed pathways of care that see motherless mothers first into NHS maternal mental health systems and workplaces. 

We need someone to take our fundraising efforts to the next level to allow us to do more. We have so many ideas, and would love someone with a creative, fresh and skilled approach to join our team of fabulous women who are wanting to make this experience more understood and heard.
